Went here last night. Food and service was excellent. We ordered the crab claws, Greek steak and Greek snapper. We split the lemon icebox pie!

My husband loves Bright Star and has eaten there for many years but I just don’t get the hype. Everything I have had was just OK and way overpriced. The service is always good and the building has personality, but it’s out of the way for most people. Niki’s West is better and cheaper in my opinion!

The Bright Star has never let us down. Always five star service and the food is amazing. They have the best steak I have ever put in my mouth. I recommend the Greek Steak! This is worth the drive to Bessemer!!!

I’ve eaten here a few times now and I just don’t get it. The building is super old but it is the oldest restaurant in Alabama. The food is no better then anyplace else. It isn’t bad but it isn’t great. Dinner is just too expensive for the lack of quality in the food. I almost feel that it deserves 2 stars because of all the hype. Take out the hype and it is just overpriced run of the mill food.

Stopped here from a referral as we were driving through. It was a bit pricey but excellent food. The service was superb. The quaint vintage décor added to the charm. The Greek salad is a must! The gumbo was delicious too. I had the snapper it was enjoyable the tartar sauce added a good zip. We enjoyed the homemade bread served with our meal. We finished with the bread pudding with bourbon sauce it’s my husband’s favorite. It was custardy and warm not your traditional bread pudding, we would recommend this restaurant to a friend for sure.

The food here was amazing, I had the Texas sampler which included a small steak, a filet of snapper and a crab and lobster soufflé with a baked potato. It was all very nice and I’d like to visit again someday

If you are coming here for the first time, you might be a little surprised at the prices for meat-and-three fare. There are other places around Birmingham that are more affordable. But you get what you pay for. If you are coming here to experience the historical aspect of the establishment, then you will not be let down. They have murals and memorabilia to peruse that will keep you busy during any wait. There are all kinds of nooks and crannies with seating in this place. On our most recent visit, we were taken through a labyrinth to the bowels of the dining room, and our cozy little corner suited us just fine. Don’t be scared if they start leading you waaaaaaaaay on back there, the food and the service are just as good. And please save room for dessert! They have arguably the best lemon icebox pie around! You should come here if you are just passing through visiting, and you should DEFINITELY come here if you are a Birmingham-area resident. There are many reasons — and not just its menu — that it has been around since 1907, has a historical landmark status, and has the excellent reputation.

Unfortunately due to the LONG wait at the courthouse for drivers license, i was forced to get take out from here. But to my surprise, the burgers were excellent. When time permits and we are back in the area i will definitely stop by for dinner to experience all that is Bright Star!

Eat here a lot, cant say enough good things about it. Even when food was bad, they made it right. Friendly staff and clean environment.
