Not what I had expected. There were very few items on the menu and they were pretty basic(BLT, Caesar salad). I thought that with a name like«flaxella» they would have more creative vegetarian options, but all I saw was a vegetable wrap smothered in some sort of creamy dressing. They can add flax seed to your salad, so I guess that’s how they justify the name. They might have better smoothies. I wish this place would cater more to the health foodies, as the name implies. It also closes pretty early(6 I think) so it’s good for lunch only.

Two and a half stars. I would rather drive to Silver Spring or Virginia for superior Ethiopian. Price-for-portion is comparable to the Ethiopian food truck that works close to this neighborhood, it seems like they’ve clued in on Bethesda pricing since the other reviews. Vegan or non-vegetarian are as customizable as their Ethiopian platters get, and spice level is doctored down for the local demographic. Injera is plush, semi-dry tibs. Flax drinks are siltier than I would be making at home. I almost got the Cuban turkey panini against my coworker’s advice, but so far I’m pretty unimpressed by this breakfast/lunch spot.

3.5 stars, but with enough interesting things on the reasonably priced menu that I’d return. I tried the vegetarian injera option along with a flaxseed latte. The injera was nice and bouncy and was fun to eat with the 3 veg options. More injera would’ve been nice though. I checked out the menu recently, and the price seems to be a bit higher, but there seems to be more food to go with it now. Also, now there is a non-veg option. The flaxseed latte was yummy, but the flaxseed does settle.

It’s a hidden treasure in plain sight! Fantastic prices, excellent service. Their baklava is good and cheap! One day I got black coffee and she asked if I wanted mint in it, «Uuuuuh,» I said. Then she said, «It’s good.» And it was! Just a couple of fresh leaves boosted the plain coffee and livened my day!

Tasty and great value. Highly recommend their Ethiopian dishes. You’ll need to ask about it since they haven’t put that menu up yet

Top notch! Unique hot drinks, breakfast — great oatmeal — some Ethiopian food and good coffee. Sambusa and oatmeal with coffee for breakfast on the go — that’s what makes my America run. Vegetarian and vegan items. A really nice find. 9÷14÷2014 10/23/2015 — sad to see Flaxella closed when I checked it last week. Looking for oats and flax cappuccino!

Worst food poisoning ever after having their veggie delight wrap yesterday. Seriously, use caution.

This place is about a 20 minute walk from my work, but it is worth every step! The owner is super friendly and even let me try her lentils she just made, which were delicious! I’m hoping she decides to have those as a daily side :) I’m vegan and there are several options to choose from. Today I ordered the veggie delight and really I could have eaten two, it was that good. She puts her own homemade dressing, sans dairy of course, and it really makes the wrap. I would def recommend this place, support local and small business!

I had the titanic salad with tuna salad. Although the greens weren’t very exotic, they were freshly chopped. Tuna salad on top of the greens really hit the spot on this hot day for not a bad price(under $ 7). It would be nice however to have a water pitcher out for the customers to refill their water.

This review has a little bit of love and a little bit of regret. I stopped in here for lunch as I was walking by I noted a sign advertising Ethiopian fare and vegetarian specials. The menu seemed quite sparse and I ended up getting a veggie wrap and a flax classic drink. The flax classic, unbelievable, it’s a mixture of oats and flax with steamed milk. It feels a little like a milk shake but it a totally different way. As I was chowing down on my wrap(which was okay) I saw one of the people working their spooning Ethiopian food out of a pot and grabbing a piece of injera rolled up like you’d typically see a plastic knife and fork. Wait, they did have Ethiopian food? Why wasn’t that on the menu? Why wasn’t I informed? That’s what I wanted! So I loved the flax classic but I reeeaaallly wanted to try to Ethiopian food.

For the small scale of this eatery, I am impressed with their attention to food flavor and quality. During fasting season, there are special vegan Ethiopian fare with injera or rice for a steal– $ 6??? Wow. Not as much as a platter but for lunch it will fill you up for certain! Wow. That meant I could have a flax latte with coffee(you can have it without!) made with almond milk!!! Delicious! They also have oat milk and standard soy milk– boring. I was impressed that they had the time for all these non-dairy options, but given the specials for fasting season, it makes sense. There are also some salads and sandwiches(grilled veggies, flax roll, hummus), as well as smoothies, oatmeal and fresh fruit. So, yes, for a café, they are pretty vegan friendly. The service is fabulously polite and attentive, as well as patient. The person helping knew what was vegan and could make suggestions. I just wish they were opened after 4pm, as I would love to to here for a latte or beverage with or without caffeine after work!

Very, very good mom and pop shop hidden under a medical offices. I had a quick bite here for lunch and decided to try the broccoli and cheese soup and spicy lentil«samosas.» The girl behind the counter proudly states the broccoli and cheese soup was made in-house. And it did not disappoint. Deliciously creamy and rich enough to satisfy without tying a knot in your stomach. The spicy lentil samosas were what hit home for me. I wish I had gotten 3 – 4 to-go they were that good. Deceptively simple, but the flavor profile was so complex with all the spices in it and a thin, crispy, flaky crust encases the lentils. Would stop by just for that! Credit cards w/no min. Parking street or walk over from any garage.

This place needs to make room for a real café. Got an americano and it was a major disappointment. It tasted like burnt 7 – 11 coffee, and it was also way overpriced. When I asked the worker how much an extra shot would be, she pointed to the single shot price on the menu. I calculated that this would put their prices at 2x what an equivalent coffee at Starbucks cost; not to mention at maybe half the quality.

3.5 stars Cute space with lots of available seating and a variety of sandwiches and flax-infused drinks. The lady at the counter was very nice and helpful. A lot of people have mentioned the flax latte. You can order it either with or without coffee and with or without honey. I was a bit surprised by how many people liked it since I found it somewhat strange. It was nutty but the texture was odd to me because it had the crushed flax seeds. Just wasn’t my cup of tea even if it was healthy. We also ordered a cheese steak panini and a veggie panini. They were both piping hot and nice and toasty on the outside. My cheese steak panini was great – lots of meat and some lovely melted cheese.

The cute little lady’s customer service alone gives this place 5 stars. I can’t wait to dig into the vegan zucchini bread with chocolate, the flax mocha with almost milk is fantastic! And you haven’t had a grilled cheese until you had theirs! Sun dried tomatoes an pesto!!! What can be wrong with that?!! YUM!

a little on the pricey side, but definitely worth it. The only place I’ve been able to find that serves almond milk lattes — and they have roasted flax too, which adds a great flavor. The Mochas are also very good.

Who would have thought that blended oats and steamed milk could be so delicious? The«Oatticino» was like drinking breakfast! The flax mocha was also a fascinating flavor, and I’m so excited to see adventurous places like this open up in Bethesda. The lady was very knowledgeable and courteous and offered to «adjust» our drinks to our liking. There is wifi and some street parking available. Definitely a great place for(wannabe) health nuts. The only down side is that this place is currently closed on the weekends and only open from 8−4pm on weekdays.

Delicious smoothie… flax…who would’ve thunk it. The roasted flavor is shocking… but two sips in and I couldn’t get enough. The lady was so nice. And very considerate. I told her I was allergic to mango and she took extra care to make sure there was no mango even near my smoothie. She rewashed the already washed blender. If I lived here I would be back every day.

I ventured into Flaxella with a Groupon and I’m not sure why I haven’t been into this Café and deli before. Flaxella is located on the ground floor of the 8200 Wisconsin high-rise on the Wisconsin side. Parking can be difficult which i think accounts for why I haven’t visited ere before. There is street parking available as long as its not rush hour otherwise there is a flat parking lot across the street on Maple ave or a garage behind the building on Woodmont.

Fabulous little café in downtown Bethesda. Tried their veggie soup, smoothie and chicken salad sandwich… absolutely delicious! Can’t wait to try their flax latte and muffins. They offer free Wi-Fi…but there is very limited seating so plan accordingly. Plan to park off-street…they’re located right across from Balance yoga studio and next to the gas station. A friend told me about this place awhile back and I bought a Groupon recently which is what brought me here. I’m so glad I tried this place… will definitely be back. Friendly service and healthy food that has that made-from-scratch taste. They also sell flax & chia seeds which are great for smoothies.
