Horrible experience… Completely incompetent leadership We tried to throw an engagement party here in December and started the conversations about it with the owner/catering director, Nikki in early October. What a nightmare… If you are considering doing an event here, run… There are so many better places in LA to do it in this price range for the same quality food where the person you are dealing with will earn your business. Let’s start with the good. The food was good. Some of the dishes were really good(meat samosas) and some were not so great. The lamb dishes are a little tough. That said I’d say the overall quality of the menu and the food is prob worth abt 3– 3.5 Unilocal stars. The service– excellent. Everyone outside of the owner was very welcoming and accommodating. We were there for a tasting for our event and the chef came out to greet us etc. Awesome people there. The Bad: Nikki the owner is the single reason we did not have our event here. She was rude, pretentious, unprofessional, and not knowledgeable about her own menu! Her catering menu is a mess and she never gives you a straight answer on anything, making it seem like she is going to screw you over in the end. We eventually realized that she was lying to us on a number of things. We couldn’t get honest answers on pricing, menu items, room capacity, availability, etc. One of the most frustrating parts was her lack of responsiveness and accountability. We emailed and called her a number of times to tell her we were ready to get our event booked after our tasting and heard nothing back. We eventually had enough of her game and sent her an email explaining to her why she lost our business. She basically wrote back a weak non apology, telling us that the reason she couldn’t be more responsive was bc a bigger party was going on that wknd that was going to pay her more so she needed to focus on them. Wow great customer service! She also at one point told me that the negative Unilocal reviews abt her were fake… Right… I assure you, if you have any questions abt doing an event at Tanzore, msg me here and I’ll send you my email thread with Nikki.

2 stars for an amazing mango lassi and pretty good food. Also for accommodating a 6 month old baby. They lose 3 stars for the excruciatingly slow service and food prices. Before we even got our appetizer my husband and I were looking at each other saying«why is it taking this long, there is no one in this restaurant»(maybe 15% of tables were taken)… Everything we ordered took absolutely forever to come. Was so frustrating! In the end, after waiting 20 minutes after asking for the check I paid and said«look please could you make it fast with the receipt, we have to get our baby home». 2 ½ hours it took us to have that meal! Also the prices are ridiculous. It the food was to die for it would be a different story, but $ 25 for a curry in a tiny bowl with no rice included($ 5 more for rice) is silly when it’s just average. The dessert dumpling ball things were delish though… Self parking next door for $ 4.50 We won’t be going back.

This review has been a long time coming. The food at Tanzore– great! Their special events run by Nikki Sood however are horrible. I’ve planned and executed many events in my life and when I came to Tanzore to host my engagement party– we were expecting a level of service that was no where to be found. Nikki is rude, pretentious, difficult to get a hold of, and unwilling to accommodate the clients schedule. She charged our credit card without authorization, attempted to throw a unsigned contract in our face as ‘proof’ and then reneged when they realized we never signed it. Amazing that this place is even in business And I am not the only one with this experience. In mentioning our experience to others in the area, we were told that they too had a very unpleasant experience with Nikki. If you’re thinking to host an event here, you’re better off going elsewhere where your business will be appreciated.

My wife and I are Indian food connoisseurs… probably go to 2 to 3 Indian restaurants a week. We really wish we can give a higher rating for this restaurant but it really does not deserve even one star. The parking structure is underground without an elevator or any specific sign of the proper entrance. We walked up to the back entrance of the restaurant and the kitchen crew showed us to the front of the restaurant. While we apologized for the mishap the MANAGER came up to us and embarrassed us and chastised us for coming from the back entrance. We thought she was joking but there was no joke… she was angry with her customers who really did nothing wrong. After sitting us down we decided to go to Bombay palace on Wilshire and receive a world class service and a delicious dinner. If you care about the quality of the human being you give your business to think twice about tanzore.

Came here to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The food was delicious, the décor is lovely, the service was friendly, the atmosphere quiet/calm(you can actually have a calm conversation without yelling across the table). 1 star for the price: $ 16 – 30 for a small entrée without any rice or naan, so expect to spend about $ 50 if you order the must have items(rice, naan, and mango or blueberry lassi). 1 star for not doing anything special for our friend’s birthday(I don’t see why they even asked me if it’s a special occasion when I made the reservation).

Went there on an impromptu date because I had a hankering for Indian food. Had eatern there before, but I live way out by the beach, so I am passing up quite a few Indian places before I would get to Restaurant Row. On this particular night I was already in WeHo, so it was a good close option. To be frank, we Negrotized the situation. It was a Sun. night their Ktichen closes at 10pm, we rolled in at 9:59p to get service. :-) Thankfully all praises goes out to the management and staff. They not only seated us, but allowed us time to mull over the menu and then order. We chose a nice Spanish Red, which they went back into the cellar and literally pulled the last remaining bottle for me. I ordered my favorite, the Vindaloo(chicken, shrimp, lamb… t don’t matter to me!) and my date had a curry. And a side or two of the Garlic Naan. Nom Nom Nom! The food was just shy of amazing! I would say 9.89 out of 10! And that’s probbaly just because the cooks had to turn back on the grill for us. ;-) But I do say that the food is worthwhile and in my humble opinon, they service is what sets this place apart from your run-of-the-mill Rupesh or Pradesh’s Indian joint! Will definitely be back next time I am late-night creepin’ on a Sun. with a date who adores Indian just as much as I do. :-)

Had not been here for awhile; however, saw a 50% sale on dinner for July and figured it was time to try Tanzore again. This restaurant actually frustrates me. Why? The décor is magnificent, location perfect. There is a strong need for an upscale Indian restaurant of contemporary means in my neighborhood. Ate here tonight and everything was very mediocre. Best part of my meal was a martini with grapefruit vodka, cointreau and a few other unusual ingredients. The food was just ordinary and in some cases bad. Bad would be the saag paneer which could have been an Indian frozen dinner for all we knew. At 50% off this was a great deal. At full price I would have been offended. Maybe if I give them another year or two they will figure it out.

I choose this place because of its décor, but honestly it wasnt that amazing The food for me was pretty good, considering how I do not like India food. However, it made my boyfriend with a sensitive stomache throw up… so that tells you the quality of ingredients. The service was good in the beginning, but he first carded us, then could us «young lad,» second round of drinks and food incredibly slow… and served one more drink then we ordered. Second portion was so slow, and my boyfriend was beginning to feel queezy during the meal that we needed to leave, waiter did not return the refill of the chicken for us and even counted in another nan… Oh and he didnt bring the spice that he said he would. Should have heard the Unilocal warnings and went to Chakra. Terrible service. Expected bill to be $$$, it was, but disappointment in quality of food. Will not be back.

Lunch buffet has VERY limited options — chicken tandoori and chicken curry, several vegetable options — pakora(fried battered vegetables), chana(garbanzo stew), Paneer(cottage cheese with vegetable stew), green salad. Most other buffets I’ve had offer mutton or lamb options, in addition to chicken. I personally feel that the flavors are ‘watered’ down here, not as deeply aromatic or spicy as most Indian food I’ve had.(Better bet: go to any Indian restaurant on Pioneer Blvd. in Artesia!) All in all, food was just OK. The rating was punched up to three stars for their Chai — spicy and sweet just the way I like it. Beautiful setting, though. Get your parking validated!

I loved everything we got here. The tandori chicken was wonderful and I usually don’t like it so much because it is usually dry as hell. Not here. They nailed it. We also had the Chicken tikka stuff. Solid! Vindaloo… not your typical style as it came ground up… but the flavors ruled. Saag paneer was awesome too. We also had their bread cheese thing(read Indian quesadilla) it was brilliant. I also thought the place was beautiful and the service was really great. It’s a bit pricey but would be worth it to kick up your Indian game here and there. Wine by the bottle was pretty reasonable too.

Been here twice, once for dinner with the hubby and the food and décor and location are great. Service was pretty good too. noted that the chicken tikka masala was delicious. Came back here with my staff for lunch buffet on me. The lunch buffet is tasty. Service was not so great, the waitress was chatting with the maitre’d and it took forever to wave her down. And then they slapped on a 18% service charge on a buffet check automatically. That lady so did not deserve 18% and it was a buffet for god’s sake! I work across the street and if you treat patrons like this, they don’t come back.

A large group of my friends and I recently went to Tanzore for dinner. The ambiance is very swanky, but sadly thats the only thing I found going for the restaurant. The food was mediocre at best. If I am paying for overpriced food, I at least expect the flavors to be great. The presentation was not anything special and the food was quite bland. What really ruined my experience though was the large mistake in our bill. After my group gave our credit cards, we were each charged $ 5 more than needed(how is that even possible?). The waiter was unable to explain this mistake, and it took them 30 minutes to figure out the confusion and charge us the correct amount. Very disappointed with this mistake and how they dealt with it! Needless to say I won’t be coming back.

Back in 2010, my friend bought me a lunch for two flash deal off Travelzoo for $ 29. I kept putting it off and when I finally had time to use it, I realized I’d lost the hardcopy voucher(this was before TZ had an app for smart phones — not that I had a smart phone then anyway). I was able to get another copy from my friend, but by then, the voucher had already expired. I called Tanzore asking if they would still accept it and they refused and said there was nothing they could do. I remember speaking with the manager for at least 10 minutes trying to persuade him otherwise, but my effort made no difference. I’m now the type of person who has an Excel spreadsheet of all flash deal vouchers I haven’t used, a calendar marking all voucher expiration dates, PLUS a hardcopy folder of all the vouchers just incase. I always redeem my vouchers. This happened a long time ago, but I will forever remember Tanzore to be the one flash deal I was never able to use. *angry face* What a waste of $ 30!

For someone who is not a big fan of indian food I LOVEDTHISPLACE. THe service was amaizng. the servers were attentive, polite and very knowledgeable which you don’t expect from a place that is not so expensive. I went during lunch and got the lunch special. The ambiance was AWESOME! It was almost too cool to be an indian place! I have never been to such nice Indian restaurant. The food was great. I loved the chutneys and the rice pudding… I also got the chicken tikka and u can;t go wrong with that THENAAAN ==== AMAAZING

Let me just start by saying, oh my God, the Chicken Tikka… it was so perfect, tender, juicy. There was no «mystery meat», it was all perfectly cooked tender, white meat. And that’s the only way I like my meat, white. That sounded bad but whatever. The food was freaking amazing, and the ambiance was better. It’s dimly lit but colorful and trendy, perfect for a date. It wasn’t super crowded either, which I liked. I am not into a bunch of hustle and bustle when I am trying to have an intimate dinner. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because our waiter was kinda rude(I forget his name) — we used a Groupon so it seemed he wasn’t too thrilled about that. Whatever though, he wasn’t gonna ruin my high. Good food and good company totally made up for it.

Why can’t they improve? It is a place with nice ambiance and in such a good location-which is deceiving when it comes to their food and service. It’s extremely pricey for the quality of food they serve. The food is not at all tasty and very bland and watered down. It is not fresh at all-you will see it when you go. They tend to use the mixed vegetable blend(broccoli, lima beans among other veggies but these 2 especially are never used in authentic indian cooking). They expect regular tip for their lunch buffet when the service is horrible(took them 20 mins to serve naan-we were almost done with the food by then). If you tip less, they will shamelessly ask you why. There is reason why there is noone there and they keep giving out coupons/groupons but then don’t want you to redeem those. It is a shame, they need a new chef and need to train their servers.

We ordered delivery from Tanzore and while it was slightly pricey, it sure hit the spot. It came within an hour, which made my hungry tummy very happy. We had the garlic naan, which was moist and warm. Not too garlicy at all. My favorite dishes were the lamb dishes. The lamb vindaloo was the star of the night. It was spicy and the sauce was filled with flavor — chilies, spices and potatoes. We also had the lamb biryani — a rice dish with saffron and mint and tender lamb. We had the chicken curry punjabi — this was my least favorite dish as it was very heavily coriander flavored. The saag paneer and the baigan bharta(eggplant) were both ok. I preferred the eggplant to the sag paneer. For delivery, this food was really excellent and the lamb dishes were our favorite. Definitely order a side of raita and mango chutney. I love mixing everything together for the perfect bite!

Wow. I’m sorry, but where do I even begin? Lets see, Appetizer chicken was a little dry. Low in flavor but sauces made up for it, well, kinda, not really. The waiter kept pushing us to buy more drinks, I’m assuming he wanted to inflate the dinner bill, since we all came here on the Living Social deal. Some of the drinks were super alcoholic, some were super weak. Where is the consistency? The place was super empty all night. I was actually a little surprised and taken aback… but then again, with what I experienced last night, I wouldn’t be surprised. Also, HORRIBLE music selection. What was up with that!!! I mean, pick a theme, and stick to it, preferably, maybe some Bollywood or Indian music would have been nice. My group and I were assaulted with all types of music that would jump from one genre to the next in the most random and eclectic fashion, from techno to electric to I SWEAR, at one point, we were hearing some sort of Asian music or something, like Korean or something, not too sure. But the music was a MESS all over the damn wall of genres. And whats up with the bathrooms? Dust on picture frames, chipped tiles, random«curtains» decorating the space. A little confusing for me. It gives me the picture that this place is trying too hard. Please note, I study Interior Architecture/General Design at CSULB, I actually know what I’m talking about when we talk about decorating and design, and shit like that. The insides of the restaurant was a little better, but here’s a tip… wall grazing lights, and that huge beautiful wine rack you guys have? Yeah, light that shit up with some lights from the bottom up, it’s gonna look killer. OK, this next paragraph traumatized and pissed me off so much that I’m dedicating a whole paragraph to it. Yeah, seriously: THEFORKSSUCKEDBALLS!!! Oh my god. Yes, yes, I will be the first to admit that they are EXTREMELY aesthetically pleasing to the eye, in fact, they were one of the more beautiful forks I’ve seen in my life. However, GOOD industrial design is not only pretty to look at, but EASYTOUSE. And these forks, my darlings, SUCKEDSOBAD. As in, you pick them up, but due to the weightiness in nature, and the way it was so rounded, the fork would not stay in the direction you wanted them to stay, they would twist and turn in the most annoying manner around your hand… let me tell you, these forks freaking irritated the HELL out of me. HOTDAMN, how is that even POSSIBLE!!! Wahhhh! Oh, also, BURNTFOOD. UNACCEPTABLE. ESPECIALLY if you’re trying to go the high end route like how Tanzore is putting themselves out to be. Totally, absolutely unacceptably burnt and horrid. Also, at the price I’m paying for my meal, why the hell is there still bone in my meat!!! YUCK! Debone that shit for me, damn it! I do not enjoy eating not only burnt chicken, but chicken that has SHARDSOFBONE in it that I need to pull out. YIKES! WAY over priced for the experience I got. I find it alarming that I paid $ 65 for this via a Living Social deal, and that it was suppose to be worth $ 110 or something like that, but even then, I feel like I got ripped off paying TOO much for this meal. After experiencing and going through the shit I had to go through last night, I don’t think this meal was even worth the $ 65 I paid for in… in fact, I kinda feel gypped out of my money, and that’s kinda saying a lot seeing how I’m not that hard to please when it comes to food. I also find it super alarming that most of the people that are writing these Unilocal reviews mention that they are coming here due to a Living Social or Unilocal deal. Take a look at Lawry’s down the street, they do not become a bustling restaurant due to giving away Living Social or Unilocal deals for their food at 50% off. It doesn’t work that way. They become famous and high end because they give out good quality, and they give the user a beautiful experience, from the beginning to the end. Final verdict? Yeah, you’re interior may look nice to the untrained eye and please some people, but after the experience I had at your place last night with shitty food, horrible beverage pushing, bad experience, and over inflated prices, I am NOT coming back unless some MAJOR changes are made. There’s a «Little India» on Pioneer Street in Artesia literally walking distance from where I work… I think I’ll be going there for some authentic, real, down to earth, cheap, GOOD and LEGIT Indian food, thank you very much. Mmmm, one last thing I’d like to add… what’s up with the«Check In» deal for Tanzore on Unilocal, hmmm? They proudly display that if you check in on Unilocal via your mobile, you get free dessert! Yet when you actually DO check in, they slap you with requirements, or more specifically, the fine print says, and here I QUOTE«1 Free dessert With purchase of any dessert! One Per Table. Dinner Only. Not Valid with Any Deal unless dessert is purchased separately.» OMGWTFBBQ. What the hell was all that crap, huh?! FAILFAILFAILFAIL!!! o. O’

***Tanzore is an upscale Indian restaurant with okay food and warm service, but it does not stand out as a great Indian restaurant or as a nice fine dining restaurant*** Tanzore is an upscale Indian restaurant with a trendy Hollywood lounge-like décor(in some ways, it reminds me of the lounge that Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling visit in Crazy, Stupid, Love). Similar to Rivera(a Latin spot in Downtown LA), the décor at Tanzore is sleek, trendy and club-esque. The food fits with the décor. They offer many Indian dishes you would see at any Indian restaurant, but they are plated nicely and with some more luxurious ingredients. While the décor and the food are both on the fancy side, the service is very warm and friendly. The service was good as food came out at a good pace and the staff was mostly attentive. Most of the food we had was decent though there are better Indian options elsewhere(and at a lower cost). Addi’s in the South Bay is a much better option as their sauces, rice and naan all have more distinct flavors and more pleasing textures than what is served at Tanzore. We started with the masala potatoes tower, which had a heavy kick of tamarind. The potatoes were garnished with samosas. The potatoes were good. Nice texture – tender but also slightly crispy on the outside. Very sweet sauce. The samosas were okay(crispy and not too greasy). The fillings were not that intense. There was a very sweet chutney as a garnish. We followed this with the chicken tikka makhani and this was very good. The chicken breast was tender and somewhat moist. The sauce was very good – spicy and sweet. The consistency was great – creamy and velvety. The smoked eggplant, peas and garlic curry was not that good. It was quite oily and I felt a similar dish at Addi’s had much more flavorful as well as a creamier consistency. The garnishes were okay. The basmati rice was fine and pretty free flowing. The garlic naan was crispy and thin. The naan needed more body though. I have had naan that combined both a crispy outside with a soft and warm center(this was mostly just crispy). Dessert consisted of a poached bosc pear(poached in a cinnamon syrup) that was filled with ice cream and then served on a crème anglaise with a raspberry reduction. The dessert was surprisingly good. It was not too sweet or sugary. The pear had a good structure – it was not soggy or overcooked, but it was still quite tender. The cold ice cream center was good and creamy – nice contrast to the warm pear. The cream sauce was not too rich. Prices at Tanzore are high. Upscale ethnic food can be a tough sale and I think Tanzore falls short. While there were things I enjoyed, I did not think the food stood out enough to justify the high prices, which were higher than most good Indian spots. Tanzore serves pleasant food in a clean atmosphere with good service. Unfortunately, Tanzore does not really separate itself as an Indian restaurant(I prefer the more flavorful as well as more thoughtfully prepared Addi’s). It also does not stand out as an upscale restaurant(for this type of dining and in this price range, there are better options in LA). Tanzore is an okay restaurant but not a great one(if you want to try it, you should seek out online specials; they have participated in them in the past). Valet parking is available, but you can also park on the street by meter a few blocks south.
