Very nice service and attentive waitress. I loved the fries and steak, but I didn’t love my chicken fingers. Besides that enjoyable experience.

Have been here for dinner several times. The blue mussels are great! They come with a nice garlicky sauce and toast for dipping. The poutine has half an order of short ribs as a topping and the veggie pocket is tasty and big. Prices are reasonable I have always found the service to be fast and friendly. That’s really all I want from a casual neighborhood restaurant.

A group of 3 of us stopped in for dinner on a Friday evening, and the place was hopping! We were seated within minutes and our server promptly came over to greet us & take our drink orders. The drinks were fabulous, as was the food and the service throughout our dinner! I enjoyed the best lasagna bolognese I’ve ever had while my sister enjoyed a perfectly prepared NY style rueben sandwich and our guest enjoyed tender, perfectly cooked beef tips. The portions were huge! EJ’s will not disappoint!

Had brunch at EJ Cabot’s recently and really enjoyed it! The brunch menu isn’t huge but has plenty to offer and our table ordered a lobster scramble, corned beef hash, fried calamari, and eggs with bacon. The portions were good size and the food was very good. The best part of brunch was the Bloody Mary bar. The bar was well stocked with different olives, pickled vegetables, bacon, hot sauces and more. I’ve only been for brunch but heard good things about their daily specials, too. I plan on checking them out!

You can give out no stars unfortunately. We had been here before a few times and the food was good the service was decent. A couple of weeks ago we went on a Thursday and the service was horrendous. All of our food came out at once instead of starters then entrée. The starters were hot but the entrees were Luke warm so pretty much cold by the time we ate them. We only had one beer because the waitress never came over again. It wasn’t because they were busy either. She was busy socializing but she should have been working. We are normally generous tippers. Honey is a chef so we get it but this girls tip started going down the minute we got there. She just want doing her job. By the time our meal ended her tip was gone. We have never not left a tip but in this case it was deserved. But we didn’t tell anyone or put a review online. A couple days ago we decided to give them another chance everyone has an off night right? That turned out to be a big mistake on our part. We sat at the bar and the bartender took our drink order and as she was pouring she asked if we had been in a week or so ago and not left a tip. We said that we had. She then asked us to leave. She did not care why we had not left a tip. She told us that is his the waitress is paid so we were cheating her by not leaving a tip. We were both just stunned. She said this in the open in front of a full bar. We asked for the manager and she said she was the owner and wanted us to leave. Words cannot express how upset I was. We will certainly not be returning. Clearly this place doesn’t care about people and thinks it is ok to humiliate potential(I guess former is more accurate) customers. Do what we did go the the Barrel House. The service was awesome and food terrific!

Give me an «E» — ECCLECTIC! Give me a «J» — JUSTRIGHTFORBEVERLY Give me a «C» — CONVENIENT Give me an «A» — AWESOMESPECIALS Give me a «B» — BRUNCH Give me an «O» — OPENLATE Give me a «T» — ‘TINISAREGREAT Give me an «S» — SCRUMPTIOUSFOOD What does that spell? An interesting, if abbreviated brunch menu, great draft selection — not huge but unmatched in the area, and decent prices. I actually have never had lunch or dinner here, so I can’t speak to EJ’s aptitude in those areas, but I have had drinks here once and brunch here twice, and those were both good experiences. I find that there are particular things about this place that draw me in, and they’re never the same things… The first brunch the big draw was the Bloody Mary Bar. As someone who takes her Bloodies with literally a smidge of horseradish and a splash of lemon, I’m not sure why this excited me so, but I’m a sucker for anything unique or different, so my mom and I gave it a shot. It was as good as I could have hoped and they have a gigantic selection of fixin’s for those that are a bit more bloody creative(and to my British friends, sorry for the foul language). The second brunch the draw was convenience. Not a spot in sight at Red’s in Salem, a visible line waiting outside at the Ugly Mug, Atomic was packed and I didn’t even need to drive all the way to North Beverly to know that Depot Diner was going to be a zoo. So my boyfriend and I went to EJ Cabot’s. Seated immediately, good, quick service. As much as I want to pout about the brunch menu being too small(it typically has about 5 things on it)… I can’t. I love that it changes. The first time I got a breakfast burrito and it was outstanding, and this time I got a breakfast flatbread(shoulder shrug — it looked good), which — EVENTHOUGH it didn’t specify eggs over easy and I HATE eggs over easy — was still DELICIOUS after i carefully cut out all of the runny yolk. The night out for drinks, the draw was the Downeast Cider on draft. Helloooo! It’s so much better from the tap than the can. We came with a group of 5, and became a group of 9 without any hassle or irritation from the waitstaff, which was nice. Drinks were reasonably priced and our bill was modest for a night of drinking. Service was inconsistent — one bartender could NOT be bothered. She gave us decent SERVICE, but her attitude was just blah. The later bartender was much more social, mixing up unique drinks and engaging with us until we shut the place down. Overall — great place for brunch because you can always get in and it has a little summin’ summin’ for everyone. Enjoy!

The food at EJ Cabot is pretty good. I had the teriyaki chicken pocket. The pocket was delicious and I liked the sauce they used. My husband had the burger as beer special, which you can’t really go wrong with. You’re basically getting a free beer. Unfortunately, the service was so slow that we couldn’t even enjoy our meal before we had to leave. The restaurant was dead, just a few parties at bar who were already eating when we ordered. Between the disinterested waitress and the apparently unprepared kitchen, it took almost a half hour for us to get our meals. I could understand that on a busy Saturday night, but the restaurant wasn’t busy. The service was so poor that I probably wouldn’t go back.

We had a fabulous lunch at this downtown Beverly eatery. My husband says, possibly the best Reuben he has ever had! The cheese burger was juicy and perfectly cooked. Their pickle chips have that fresh crisp sun pickle flavor I love(having made many a batch of dill sun pickles). Their homemade potato chips and coleslaw were great sides to our sandwiches.

EJ Cabot’s is the best pub in Beverly! Friendly staff, and absolutely delicious food… Oh, and did I mention, most of their dishes can satisfy you for at least 2 – 4 meals!!! What’s better than having awesome food and outstanding portion sizes for such a good price? I LOVE that I can heat up their delicious meatloaf or chicken teriyaki pockets for lunch the next day. Steak tips are out of this world, too! I have been to this restaurant over a dozen times, and I will continue to go back there. I believe they are most famous for their daily and weekly specials, although hard to decide, EVERYTHING is fabulous. Joe, the owner/chef knows exactly what he’s doing back there. If there are ever fish tacos on the menu — GETTHEM! Although, I love tacos no matter what… His have got to be my favorite. Don’t forget to try their Poutine either… You will thank me later, and I assure you will go back for it, or even dream about it in your sleep. I would say their most popular specials would be the $ 1 oysters on Monday nights(Huge seller!), a burger and beer for $ 10 on Tuesdays, the two entrees and bottle of wine for $ 50 on Wednesday nights(How do you beat that?). They will sometimes have live music on Fridays and Saturdays, which has always brought in a relatively fun crowd. I can also guarantee that you won’t go anywhere else on the North Shore for a better Bloody Mary once you’ve had theirs. The vodka pour is top notch, and the fabulous array of options at the Bloody Mary bar are astonishing! Give this place a try if you haven’t already… And I hope you love the place as much as I do!

Excellent service and menu, have eaten here on many occasions but today just stopped in for a beverage, decided to take advantage of their«Bloody Mary Bar », I wasn’t disappointed, great selection of fixins coupled with a very generous pour of your choice of vodka. Win win. Strongly recommended.

I moved to the area a short while ago and this place is within walking distance of my house. Since moving in we’ve been twice and both times the results were consistently mediocre. The first time we ate at EJ’s, it was a Friday night and we had a group of 6. The second time it was just 2 of us and we were there on a Wednesday night. Both visits had similar pros and cons. First of all, when you walk in you are immediately confused about what you’re supposed to do. There is no one to great/seat you, but there’s also no sign that you should feel free to seat yourself. Also, the dining room is separate from the bar, so you’re not sure if you go in there if anyone will see you. Once you stand there long enough looking like an confused fool, someone finally comes over and assists you in finding a table. Once you are seated, the serve is incredibly slow. I understand that happens on a Friday night with a group of 6, but the Wednesday night party of two thing was unbelievable. We literally had to stop random servers to try and order. Once he did get our food, it was very good. I was very happy with the food for both of our meals. The portions are great and the nightly specials are terrific. Really, this could be 4 – 5 stars if you didn’t have to beg them to order/get a check/pay them. I hate begging to pay.

Food was wonderful! Portions were large, we got a dinner salad and smoked prime rib. Ate the prime rib for dinner and breakfast for 2 this morning! Average wine list, but bartenders are friendly and attentive. Music was good.

EJs is by far my favorite restaurant in Beverly! The eclectic atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, and delicious menu easily make this my first choice. Whether out for a drink or out for a classic American dinner you cannot miss at EJs. Definitely recommend! Love this place!

Every once in a while you stumble upon a hidden gem and the most recent pearl on the North Shore is nestled in the heart of a working class neighborhood in Beverly, Massachusetts. I took my family to dinner on a Sunday night and what I thought was going to be typical pub fare turned out to be a fine dining experience without the hefty price tag or the pretentious posturing of servers and customers alike. We walked into a meticulously clean dining area with an ample bar directly in front of us. Once we sat we were greeted by a friendly server with a warm smile. Because an NFL game was on that night they offered an appetizer special which consisted of beef ribs and slider meatballs for $ 1.50 apiece! Please note that I am ordinarily not a fan of beef ribs because they are generally too fatty as compared to the baby back or pork ribs. However, these beef ribs were not only fall-off-the-bone good, they were expertly trimmed and slathered in a barbecue sauce that was not the candy sweet sauce you find in most rib joints but a savory, tangy and perfectly seasoned blend that knocked my socks off. The slider meatballs were terrific for several reasons. First and foremost the meatballs were North End delicious. Secondly there was just the right touch of marinara which is important because too much would make it not only messy to eat but create a soggy bun. Finally, any good sandwich is only as good as the roll. These rolls were airy and bakery fresh. Homerun! Lastly, I had the mixed grill which consisted of barbecue steak tips(normally I order my tips naked because again, the prevailing wisdom around these parts is sticky sweet, often with a Coca-Cola base, makes for good eating… not!) that featured a light barbecue dressing that was tangy though not too sweet. It seemed to be a lighter version of the sauce found on the beef ribs. The Italian sausage was flattened out but tremendously tasty. And the coup de gras was a rack of pork ribs that were as succulent as you would find anywhere. This dish came with steak fries seasoned with sea salt complemented by a cucumber/pickle round and cherry pepper to finish it off. The Mussels in garlic and white wine were also a hit as was the colossal shrimp prepared in the same manner as the mussels. Colossal shrimp is ordinarily an oxymoron but wait until you get a look at these sea delicacies! Our server was affable, attentive and helpful throughout without being overbearing. The ambience was the epitome of cozy. All we needed was a light snowfall to complete the picture. Plenty of room between tables which is always a welcome sight especially if you are bigger than the average bear. EJ Cabot’s is an absolute must if you enjoy fine food at a reasonable price. Based on my experience, there are no cooks at EJ Cabot’s…only chefs. Bravo!

I made plans with a friend to go here for lunch a week in advance, we had both heard good things and were looking forward to trying this place. The Friday came I went on there website checked out the hours and the lunch menu and 2pm came and we went on our way. We got to the door only to find it locked. And we thought maybe we had mixed up there hours so went online to double check and nope the website says open at 11am.

This was great – we threw my mom’s retirement party here and Joe was super helpful and great. We had a side room and did a cash bar. EJ’s did a buffet with awesome chicken fingers, veggies and dip, hummus and pita, meatballs, caesar salad, and tons of other good stuff. Definitely try the potato chips-they’re home made! They had a great beer selection, an awesome staff who was super helpful and nice, and great tunes. We stayed for dinner after and it great pub food. Next time I’d go with a special instead of the veggie wrap, they’re supposed to be good! $ 1 oysters on Mondays! Have to check that out.

Beverly has been missing an authentic pub style restaurant for a while and im so happy EJ Cabots is downtown! My new favorite restaurant on the North Shore. I had a yuengling beer(on tap!) plus 5 of the $ 1 oysters– they were huge and tasty!(See photos). The side sauces were cocktail. Sauce and horseradish, both were full of good flavor. After, i got an order of BBQ Pork ribs. They were 2 big racks of 3 ribs each plus steak fries and perfectly mixed coleslaw: not too mayonnaisey or peppery. Lastly i ordered the double chocolate cake, and asked the bartender to make me a mixed drink on the sweet side, he made an awesome one with st. germain, white wine and soda water. Very good! Great size restaurant for either couples or big groups out, and excellent service(i don’t know why other Unilocalers criticized their servers). Definitely a great place to chill on a night out with friends!

This place has a small pub vibe to it, but the food is excellent. My favorite dish is the primavera Alfredo; vegetables with pasta and Alfredo sauce. It had a ton of fresh vegetables in it and it was so colorful! The night we went they also had $ 10 burger & beer night, which my fiancé took full advantage of, and he said it was the burger he had in a long time.

You know when you walk into a restaurant and you’re greeted(sort of) by a waiter who just points to the back of the restaurant as if to say«go sit over there»? Of course not, right? I mean, who does that? They totally do that here! And it only goes totally downhill from that point. They’re not interested in being there, or more importantly, the fact that you’re there. They might come to your table to take your order. They might not. Try asking them to. That could work. But they will definitely walk by your table over and over and act like you’re not there. What do you mean you’d like another round of drinks? That’s insanity! The food: The pork belly must have been some sort of blackened/cajun pork belly. That can be the only reason it came out looking like fish sticks that were hit with a blow torch. Everything else sat comfortably in a range of mediocre to not good. Other highlights: * After our waiter spilled grease off the pork belly plate onto the table, it seemed totally cool to just leave it all over the table. * After he cleared our plates, we just sat there awkwardly waiting to be offered a dessert menu or the check. So after like, 15 to 20 minutes of that nonsense, we asked for the check. * Then he circled like a hungry shark waiting to grab the filled out credit card receipts off the table. When he realized I was on to him, he sent the other disinterested human being over to snatch them from the table when I wasn’t looking. More than a little unprofessional. We weren’t planning on taking them home. RELAX, you’re making everyone around you nervous. So to sum up, if you’d like to enjoy underwhelming«fine dining» somewhere that you feel like you’re not welcome, this is the place for you. Otherwise, just go to TGIFriday’s. At least you EXPECT that to suck.
