I go into this Big Lots rather frequently, as it is close to where I live. I almost never buy anything as I can never find what I am looking for. The prices are obviously great, which is why I give the store three stars, but aside from that, I could shop at Kmart and have more shopping variety. This store opened about a year ago so it is pretty clean, but often it smells bad. The employees are not much to rave about either. This is a good place to browse for random household décor, furniture, seasonal supplies.

The store is Ok, but the manger and cashier are so rude, nasty people. If you need to go to Big Lot choose another location.

This Big Lots is relatively new, although I visited several weeks after its grand opening. Despite being open for a while, it felt sparse, like they weren’t finished putting out the merchandise. Perhaps this is because they’re shifting stock for the changing seasons, but the emptiness in certain areas of the store was definitely awkward. There’s nothing really outstanding(or even«moderately good») about the stock here. It’s in a similar vein to Ocean State Job Lots, or even the Christmas Tree Shoppe(although lacking any semblance of charm). You can find some great steals here though: their makeup and cosmetics were delightfully inexpensive($ 1.50 for a compact of Almay blush that usually goes for anywhere between $ 6 – 9 depending on where you shop!), of course with stores like this you have to be a bit careful and make sure what you’re buying isn’t old or junky. Maybe once Big Lots«settles in» to its new space it will feel less empty, but for now I don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon unless the deals are more competitive and the stock isn’t so sparse.

This particular Big Lots store(#5225) appears to have opened this weekend. The shelves are almost fully stocked but people are already visiting it and buying items. We wandered around the store a few times and examined the items they had so far. My rating fluctuated from 2 stars to 4 stars depending on the particular section so I’m giving it an average of 3. First, the negatives. This store does not appear to offer anything significantly different than the adjacent Kmart, Burlington Coat Factory, Dollar Tree, and Market Basket. These other stores are in the same shopping center and all use the same parking lot. There are a huge variety of categories but only a few items per category. For example, at this time, there was only 1 selection of pasta sauce, a large size container of Ragu. The furniture initially looked great until detailed examination revealed the type of wood that is used. The furniture was not particularly inexpensive either. The atmosphere was also a bit unfriendly with the liberal use of surveillance warning tags throughout the shelves. This atmosphere was backed up by a public announcement talking about their return policies. Now for some positives. For some items, the prices are indeed cheaper than the adjacent stores. For example, Gatorade that cost $ 1 at MB costed $ 0.85 here(depending on flavor). They also sold bagged store brand shredded wheat cereal here and had a slightly wider variety of chocolate hazelnut spreads(3 brands here versus just Nutella at MB). Movies are also cheap here with most at $ 3 per DVD. In contrast to the surveillance warning tags, the employees seem friendly at this time.
