I live at Blach’s Loft, half a block away from this location so it’s very convenient. I got a salad to-go for lunch today, the winter kale caesar salad with chicken. The guy taking my order didn’t ask if I wanted the small or large, he assumed large and thank gosh because it was so small. This was the tickling part, it was almost $ 16.00 for a kale caesar salad, and it certainly wasn’t anything special.

Where to begin, I’ve wanted to dine here for years, but could never seem to make an effort until now. My husband surprised me with an anniversary lunch date and asked me to choose the place– well what do you know… the time was perfect. He picked me up an hour after the lunch rush so the downtown streets were quieting by 1pm. We leisurely walked down the street with a nice breeze against our faces and strolled into Brick and Tin. Interestingly enough our taste buds were screaming similar tunes, so making a decision was rather easy to share. I kept it simple and ordered the delicious turkey and swiss with a side of OUTSTANDING butternut squash soup. The freshly baked bread wasn’t tough/hard, but lightly toasted to perfection. The soup… the soup… the soup, oh my goodness… one of the best soups in town. It’s hard to put into words, but it surely warmed my soul! The butternut deliciousness was delivered to the table piping hot. At first glance, I thought the color was a tad light for butternut– I thought it looked more like egg yolk with a drizzle of oil so I didn’t know what to expect. The first sip was amazing as was every sip to follow! I savored each sip even so that I began to tip the bowl as the soup began to disappear in my belly(now you know a soup is good when you tip the bowl to get every drop). It was rich, creamy and perfect for any fall day. I would buy this by the container! On to my husband: he ordered the brisket and a side of spring greens. The brisket was amazingly tender, loaded on soft pain de mie flatbread. Brick and Tin has simple food, done right! The décor is lovely– housed in a beautifully narrow building. The high ceilings have such great detail and the theme is clearly rustic. I like the pew seating along the wall and thought each table had ample space; then again, we were one of five diners at the time. The prices are fair, the salads look amazing and I’ve heard the dessert is worth a try. My only complaint is that the service is not the friendliest. The cashier was rather short and seemed to avoid our table in comparison to Ashley who managed to make it to everyone’s table.

I’ve been here a half dozen times while on travel for work, and I’ve never been disappointed. I’ve had just about every sandwich on their menu, and they’ve all be great. Service has been friendly and fast, and the ordering process is efficient and straightforward.

Outstanding. I had the tomato panini with a cup of mushroom soup. I was particularly fond of the soup. Dipped the panini; the combination of flavors was great. Was quite a busy place but had room for us. Highly recommend.

I had heard so much about brick & tin and really wanted to love it. However, I got the brisket panini and it was decent, but nothing to write home about. The meat was tender but a little dry– a little more sauce would’ve made it perfect. I loved the side salad and the balsamic vinaigrette though, yum! When you walk in, there is a stack of menus on a table. You bring one up with you to the cashier to reference when you make your order. This eliminates the need for squinting at a blackboard like I usually do – for this, I am grateful. The atmosphere is pleasant and I love the décor– especially the exposed red brick and peace lilies. They also have outdoor seating! I hope that when I return, I’ll have better luck with different items on the menu.

First time stopping by here on a weekday for lunch! I would suggest going before 12:30 to get a seat. I ordered the simple salad with chicken. It was very light, fresh, but still flavorful! Next time I go, I’ll order a panini. They all looked very delicious. Friendly staff, cool urban space and fresh, inexpensive food gets two thumbs up from me!

I have been countless times to this restaurant and it really is as good as it gets. The sandwiches(I have basically tried all of them) are the BEST sandwiches I have ever eaten and are consistently that way. The Brisket sandwich is heavenly and the Bourbon County is out of this world. The staff is always super nice and accommodating and the cashier(the one taking your order) seems really knowledgeable about the items on the menu, which I always really appreciate. I think for the price(I pay around $ 14), it is a pretty good lunch place. I get a gourmet sandwich, a drink, a salad/soup, and always a brown butter coconut cookie(truly miraculous, I make everyone get one, they end up loving it). The atmosphere is fantastic, with beautiful vaulted coffered ceiling reminding you of how classy Birmingham used to be and hopefully will be again. The outdoor seating in an area surrounded by the tallest buildings in the city reminds you that you are in a metropolis and the breeze coming down 20th St always makes it lovely.

Delicious! A great option if you find yourself needing a quick bite in downtown Birmingham. Food is all freshly prepared from locally-sourced ingredients. I sat at the bar, which overlooks the kitchen – a fun experience being able to watch your order being prepped. Everything came out quickly, even with a full dining room. I’m an omnivore, but went with the Tuscan/vegetarian sandwich, which probably rivals any meat offering on the menu! Loved it. The soups are as satisfying and hearty as any you’ll find at 5-star restaurants. I’ll be back next time I’m in town!

Great location but not much to offer. I didn’t quite understand all of the hype. Their homemade soups were pretty good. I had the butternut squash soup. I also had the bellotine. Chicken, goat cheese, pesto panini. The salads and sandwiches were very basic. The food was good, but nothing to write home about, especially for the cost. Also, the website menu differs from the menu you get when you walk in. Not sure if that’s for a particular meal/day. I just wasn’t all that impressed. :/

Brick & Tin is fantastic — definitely one of my favorites in Birmingham. They’re committed to using fresh ingredients and making as much as they can in-house, and the quality is really outstanding. Their menu varies a little bit depending on the season, but you’ll always be able to find delicious sandwiches, salads and desserts. The downtown location is usually packed at lunchtime, but I’ve always been able to find a table or at least sit at the bar, even on the busiest days. The service is pretty quick, so it’s definitely possible to get in-and-out on a lunch break. The staff is friendly and efficient making the overall experience really great. Brick & Tin reminded me of what great sandwiches can taste like. Flavors are balanced perfectly so everything on the menu is a reflection of the season and much more than the sum of its parts, meaning dishes taste exciting and familiar(in a good way, like mom’s cooking or comfort food) at the same time. Their brisket is so good that my dad insists on stopping here at least once every time he’s in town, even if it’s just for a few hours.(He calls eating their brisket«going to the mountaintop» — it’s that good.) I also like that Brick & Tin has fresh, healthy salads for when I’m looking for something different. Their salads are crafted with really great ingredients, and they’re obviously more than an afterthought, the way they are at some restaurants. This is also a great place for vegetarians — every time I’ve been, they had at least one veggie sandwich on the menu, and most salads come without meat unless its requested. This review is making me hungry — I just had Brick & Tin for lunch, and I already want to go back!

We’ve been trying to visit this place for a few months! It was well worth the wait. I got the arugula salad which was loaded with a variety of veggies that I don’t normally put on my salad. The salad was outstanding. My wife got the portobello mushroom panini which was delicioso also. We couldn’t leave without trying the sweet potato bread pudding and it was outstanding!!! Our taste buds were blown away!!! We’ll be back again. I recommend the arugula salad and sweet potato bread pudding!!!

Call ahead so your food will be ready when you get there. I loved the sandwich with bourbon marmalade but it looks like it is not being served anymore. Dont skip desert… the peach cobbler was awesome! I went here twice in a short span of time and found both visits to be very consistent. I made sure to taste what my wife and mother-in-law got and I can definitely say that I like everything I have tasted here from sandwiches to soup to salad to deserts.

Brick & Tin is super cute inside! I love the décor. My vegetarian daughter is a HUGE fan, so it’s good for vegetarians. We enjoyed a «day off» together and I had the Brisket Panini with a side dish comprised of a wheat product,(I don’t think it was quinoa, but don’t remember), mixed with fresh, seasonal veggies. The side dish was REALLY good, fresh and delicious! The Brisket was not«to die» for, but it was good. They have a super-tightly edited menu and I think the sides change almost daily. We split a nice, dry white wine and enjoyed cold waters. It’s counter service, but they do bring your dishes to your table and remove them. You order at the rear of the restaurant. The restrooms were clean. The ladies working were really friendly and there was a good sized crowd for a Friday. Not a bad spot for a nice lunch. TIP: The high tops at the back of the restaurant are SUPER high off the floor, I nearly busted my rear climbing out of the stool to refill our waters. Ha! That would have been embarrassing!

This place is an awesome lunch spot. There’s only one thing I take more seriously than Hot Dogs, and that is the MUFFALETTA. People that know me know that I am serious about muffalettas. I lived on the gulf coast for four years. They do muffalettas well down there. Here in Birmingham any sandwich poser with olive salad thinks it’s a muffaletta. A muffaletta needs 3 things: 1: Muffaletta bread. Don’t serve that sandwich on a sub roll and call it a muff. 2: Capicola, salami, and mortadella(sopressetta works too). Don’t put ham and pepperoni on a sandwich and have the nerve to call it a muffaletta. 3. Olive salad. That said, guess what? Brick and Tin does not have a muffaletta. They respect the muffaletta and call their’s the«New Orleans» Because they serve it on foccacia bread. It is THE most delicious take on a muffaletta in Birmingham. My only complaint is I have to ask for extra olive salad because they go so light on it. Their Butternut Squash soup is also THE best I have ever had. I’ve tried store bought and making it at home but nothing comes close. Also sample the bread pudding if you get the chance! It’s my favorite lunch spot in the downtown area.

What a great place! Loved everything about the Brick & Tin! I had the Bourbon County Panini and it was FABULOUS! The whiskey marmalade was amazing! I paired my Panini with a cup of the tomato soup and it was the perfect match up! Great for a rainy afternoon! If you are ever in downtown Birmingham, the Brick & Tin is a must!

This is an amazing restaurant. Went last Friday night and got the brisket panini with butternut squash soup. Both were delicious and I wouldn’t change a thing about the dish. The food here is really well priced for the quality of the product. I’d rather spend 9 dollars on a sandwich and soup here than 7 or 8 at panera. Definitely go check it out! Open during the week for lunch and then on Friday nights as well! Also — the New Orleans sandwich and the bread pudding are supposed to be great as well!
