Tried Five recently for the Brunch. Started with the avocado toast and beignets. Both were excellent! I am usually not a major avocado fan but I would definitely order this appetizer again. I enjoyed my appetizers so much, I didn’t have much room for my entrée which was the shrimp and grits. My entrée was just ok. Other diners at my table had the chicken and waffles and it was excellent. In the future I will get chicken and waffles if I’m dining for brunch. Overall, the atmosphere was good, service was good and we all enjoyed our experience.

I didn’t really enjoy myself at FIVE. The food was good I will say, but the service wasn’t so great. We were rushed to eat. Our waiter came back to our table at least every 5 to 6 minutes asking if we were done looking at the menus. When we got our food our waiter kept coming to our table cleaning the dishes and it was really bothering us because he kept interrupting us trying to get everything off the table. He probably came back 10 minutes later and asked us if we need a to go box. And then another 10 minutes later asking if we needed our checks. We were probably there for a total of 45 minutes. I’ve never been to a restaurant where I’m coming to socialize with friends and we were in and out within 45 minutes. We understood that he was ready to go and he wanted to clean up so that he could be done when they closed, but I didn’t feel that was great customer service when your guest knows that you’re rushing them so that they could leave so that you wouldn’t have to be there longer than you planned on being there. I give FIVE a 3 star just because of the food.

Great Sunday brunch. There was a short wait before we got seated, just enough time for the alcohol service to start We had mimosas that were refreshing and inexpensive We were seated outside which was not bad though could use a couple of oscillating fans. Wait staff was very good and gave suggestions. Started with the Avocado toast, brilliant flavors served with a side of Pico I had the Burrito served with crispy hash browns. The burrito was stuffed with eggs, sausage, bacon and cheese. You will not go away hungry. Asked for some jalapeños on the side which just lit up the taste buds Wife had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp had a rub and were grilled perfectly. The grits were smooth with bits of sausage and goat cheese Overall great experience. Will go back

Made my first trip to Birmingham and this place was highly recommended by several friends… now I see why. It’s fabulous! Love it! Great atmosphere and delicious food. Had the surf and turf and it was absolutely delicious! Strawberry lemonade was tasty and refreshing. Super cute little place. Can’t wait to stop back in on my next trip to Birmingham.

Atmosphere is perfect for Sunday brunch. Food was delicious. I had the breakfast burrito and my husband had the chicken & waffles. Wish we could’ve tried the mimosas and Bloody Mary bar but alcohol cannot be served until after 12 on Sundays in Jefferson county. Service was also excellent.

Ok giving out a Five is sometimes hard to do, but when the Chicken and Waffles is one of the best Chicken and Waffles you ever had! Oh my, the chicken was some of the best restaurant fried chicken I have ever had! Now I don’t know about consistency but on the day my wife, father-in-law and myself went all of us raved about it! The music was good and the atmosphere was nice. Service maybe a touch slow but understandable when you notice how busy they are. Highly recommended for Sunday Brunch!

I always enjoy my experiences at Five! Cocktails are always on point! I enjoy their Strawberry Lemonade, Bordeaux Bourbon and they make a great Old Fashioned. The Uptown Shrimp and Baked avocado are excellent. Their brunch is also a favorite of mine. Great burger with fried egg as well as a good chicken and waffles. I generally take out of towners here for Sunday brunch for the atmosphere and the food. Also the location in Tuscaloosa is just as good. It’s rare to find a smaller«chain», if you will, that is consistent at multiple locations but I would recommend Five. I go at least twice a month.

This place is great! Good southern food. Chicken and waffles were good and the service was great. Even got some doughnut thing on the house! Coffee was good and they had live music at 11 am on a Sunday = so good. Definitely would recommend.

There are so many great elements and things about this place, I am not sure I could fit them all in just one review. I came here on a Saturday evening and the crowd was surprisingly small for that time of afternoon. We started out with the Uptown Shrimp that was tossed in some type of spicy sauce which was totally delish! I decided to get the Cheeseburger and I must say the bacon relish they use on it is pretty good. The mimosas were strong and tasty. My only complaint is service was a tad slow for it to be such a small crowd. I ordered another starter and never received it. But I still love this place anyway! Good place to try for Brunch also!

The décor is classic with an eclectic touch! I love the low hanging chandeliers, low lights and varied artwork. It’s a comfortable, casual place to dine with an amazing staff! The food was just as good! I had the baked avocado and wished I ordered two! I checked in and the general manager came to greet my table. Joey was a great server, so service and good food came together so nicely! I’m in town from Chicago and I recommend this place for local flair and national dining standards! Go and enjoy yourself! Reviews may not be that great but be a leader and determine for yourself! You’ll be more than pleased! And I don’t work here, I am a public speaking coach and trainer so I’m good with words! Lol

I want to get straight to the point! Phenomenal Chicken & Waffles! Period. Now I will admit very rarely do I eat this dish so I’m not an expert on it at all. Came here on a Sunday afternoon expecting it to be beyond packed. It wasn’t so bad. I was told it’d be 15 min for a table but once I noticed there was space at the bar to be seated immediately I went with that option. I knew exactly what I wanted to order. Id been randomly craving chicken & waffles all day so… it was settled. Ordered my food & a $ 3 Mimosa(sub pineapple juice) & enjoyed the delightful live jazz band that was playing behind me. The bartender Richard(I think lol) took very good care of me! Once my food finally got here… whew…y’all…Y’ALL! I was literally smiling every time I took a freaking bite! Juicy, crispy, hot, & very flavorful fried chicken… sitting next to a light waffle topped with pecans, whipped butter, & powered sugar. The maple syrup complemented it oh so well. Like I literally could not stop eating, dancing in my seat or smiling. Don’t know if it was the mimosas, the food, the band, or all of the above. FIVE you gave me a wonderful Sunday brunch. Attentive & friendly staff, delicious food, live music, & affordable cocktails. Now THIS is how you do brunch Birmingham!

I’m a Birmingham local of six years… The atmosphere is incredibly cheap and the drinks are the most overpriced — uninspiring cocktails in town. Avoid — go to Tavern on 1st or Collins Bar if you want a true Birmingham cocktail experience!!! The draft selection is very poor and flat. The well is makers mark… If you want an over powered cocktail go for it — if you want a thoughtful and well balanced drink with go somewhere else… Tavern on 1st makes their own syrups and amazing original cocktails!!! Avoid this place!!!

Came here for dinner with the hubby. There are very few menu items. So if you don’t like what’s on the menu, I guess you are SOL. Our menu consisted of a steak, shrimp rigatoni, duck tacos, fish, and a hamburger. There were appetizers to choose from as well and we had tuna dip. It was really good but it was a little on the salty side for me. My husband had the rigatoni. It was very good. The rigatoni was crispy on top. It came with a salad and garlic bread. I had the grouper with risotto. Soooo good. The fish was cooked perfectly, the risotto was creamy and delicious. The salad that came with it was great too with chunks of apples and goat cheese. I ate every bite. The prices here are $$$. The atmosphere here is very loud so maybe not the greatest for a romantic night out but fun with friends or for lunch. I would love to come back here with a group. Definitely check it out if you are looking for good food and you have money to burn. They are great for brunch too.

First and foremost this place has a new orleans feel to it. The mimosa’s are spot on, mixed to perfection. For me the eggs Benedict over crab cakes were the best followed by the chicken and waffle. This place is one of those rare finds in your hunt for the perfect meal. I highly recommend this place! Great food and good music. Update: Friday night? Great time to visit. Soon as we walked in we were seated. Food was amazing as usual, strawberry lemonades… Spot on… Just wish they were bigger :) Had the tuna and chips for app, really good. All i can say is great food, great atmosphere… And for me great service, it is rare that you feel that you are appreciated as a customer! Keep up the good work!

Solid four stars. Seems as if a zillion different restaurants have come and gone in this space over the years. Maybe Five will stay here a while, given how Lakeview has become quite the hotspot. It’s called Five for a simple reason: There are only five entrees on the menu any given night. I’m right on this, right? That being said, it’s a really good five entrees, if last night were any indication. I had the duck tacos. My wife had shrimp rigatoni. Awfully good stuff. Some issues, some of which aren’t the fault of the management. First, Lakeview is becoming a victim of its success, because parking is… how do I say it nicely… godawful. So I resorted to valet parking at Five, which worked really well. Trust me. Just bite the bullet and pay the valet a couple of bucks rather than cruise the neighborhood in search of a space. Another snag is the mood lighting. Okay, it could only be considered mood lighting if the mood were somewhere between slightly depressed and the bleakness only found in those Russian novels that start off with Grandpa hanging himself out in the barn. Seriously, it is that dark. As in we all used the flashlights on our smartphones to read the menus. So, you, guy in the back. Twirl that dimmer knob up a bit, please. Finally there’s the noise. Yes, it’s a boisterous crowd filled with ridiculously beautiful people. Fantastic. But while the noise wasn’t quite on the order of a Rolls Royce jet engine or a Slipknot concert, it was loud. Huh? What? So I’m thinking the good people at Five could hand a few sound baffles about the place so that the conversations wouldn’t be quite so strained. Service was good. Our waiter looked as if he would have been at home in a Lands End catalog, friendly and knowledgable. However, I think he was working too many tables that night because it took quite a while before we could flag him down for our check. He might have been splitting logs in the back, looking for Tess Trueheart, or herding moose. I don’t know. But it took a while. That being said, we weren’t in a hurry, so it was no big deal. So, overall, fun and good place to grab a bite, if a bit noisy and dark. Hey, we’d come back.

We went here, this past Sunday, for brunch. The place was packed! They told us a 30 minute wait time and we go in, in about 15! The atmosphere is very jazz chic. Chandeliers decorate the place, and a jazz plan was playing that Sunday(which I believe they do every Sunday). The had their mimosas(which be warned they can not serve until after 12 on Sunday’s). They were delightful. We got a pitcher between the three of us and it was enough for about 1 ½ glasses each. They had just the right amount of challah and the orange juice tasted freshly squeezed. Our waiter was slow, so we waited a good amount of time between each of us visits, and it did take him a while to our orders. Yes it was packed, but I did not notice this with the other serves. At five, you have five options to choose from for brunch. We all got something different. I ordered a crab cakes egg Benedict with a green onion hollandaise sauce. It was slightly cold when it came out, but delicious none the less. It also came with vegetables and fruit. All in all, our experience at Five was good, not great. You’re paying more for the atmosphere. I would return, but would ask for a different server.

Today was my first time at the Birmingham location of FIVE and I was thoroughly impressed. It was Sunday brunch, so I got the burrito and hashbrowns while my friend got the frittata. Both of which were delicious and flavorful. He got a mimosa and I got the peach Bellini. The drinks were well-made and paired well with brunch. The cool thing about FIVE brunch is the jazz band playing. Really sets the ambiance, and proves FIVE the place to be on a Sunday. The servers and hostess were incredibly friendly as well. Although I’m not a particular fan, they have a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar during brunch which appeared to be a definite favorite. Fun atmosphere, good food, I’ll be back for more When it comes to dinner, though, you can’t go wrong with the baked avocado. It was delectable(from the Tuscaloosa location). Get it, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Small menu, but very good food! As the name says, only five items on the menu per course! Went here for drinks and dinner after work with friends from B’ham! It was recommended by a local colleague. The menu is small but the dishes are very good and well executed. Restaurant keeps small items but do them well. Cocktails are really good and prices are very reasonable. Lots of UAB students hang out here. Service is really good as well. Looks like their brunch is one of the best in Birmingham, will have to go back to try it out.
