Dr. Gagnon and his staff are all very friendly and respectful. During my appointment, Dr. Gagnon was very easy going and relatable, and went out of his way to explain everything to me. He took his time to make sure everything was right, and that I got the best care possible. I never felt rushed or judged or pressured to do/buy anything I didn’t want. Excellent doctor, and excellent staff. You can’t beat the friendliness and care of a small, independent business. I highly recommend Red Mountain Eye Care.

I had been going to Costco for the past few years for my yearly exam and glasses. But, decided to find a more hospitably place to handle my eye needs. I looked up Dr. Gagnon and Red Mountain Eye Care on here and there were a couple of great reviews. I was not dissapointed with my experience today. Dr. Gagnon and his assistant were very gracious and he was the most personable optometrist I have ever encountered. I am now gong to send my daughters and wife to him for their exams and eye wear. Great Experience.

Dr. Gagnon at Red Mountain Eye Care is one of my favorite doctors of any kind ever. He has never been judgmental about my irresponsible contact wearing past(I used to sleep in my contacts for months even though get were meant for 2 weeks), and he’s sarcastic and hilarious. He goes above and beyond to relate to me, and he greets me with«Go Heels» since we share UNC as an alma mater. After a previously less than favorable experience with other eye care in Birmingham that overcharged and scolded me saying I had permanently damaged my eyes when I came in with an eye infection(later they were angry when my eyes had cleared up and said that they couldn’t see any damage but I had probably still damaged them, ridiculous), I was grateful when a friend referred me to Dr. Gagnon. He is highly knowledgable, friendly, interesting and interested. He enjoys to chat and I really enjoy that in a doctor office situation that can otherwise feel like you are on trial. His office assistant is really friendly and super helpful for ordering contacts. She offered to go ahead and order my lenses since I have a trip coming up soon and probably need them before we leave, and said she’d just ship them back if I decide I don’t like them while I’ve got my trial pair. Dr. Gagnon doesn’t even push you to order your glasses through him(and he gave me his honest opinion of the Warby Parker frames I was considering). He gave me 5 pairs of daily contacts for free to keep on hand as spares. He even complimented my eyeliner, high praise from someone who spends all day looking at eyes! Even better, the office is located centrally in Homewood(by the TCBY and Subway), total bonus for me, and I always have an easy time making an appointment that fits my schedule. I highly recommend Red Mountain Eye Care!

I used to go to an Opthalmologist(an M.D.) for eye appointments, but then I noticed that while the doctor checked for eye problems or disease thoroughly, his staff did not do a great job getting the prescription right. So I went to Schaeffer Eye Center. You are seen by an Optometrist, who is not an M.D., but they go to class with the med students so I’m comfortable saying an optometrist will catch all the possible eye problems an Opthalmologist would. They just can’t do eye surgery. Schaeffer did a great job with the prescription, and as a grateful patient, I overpaid for nice new glasses. I did that for a couple years, but they switched optometrists a couple times and I felt as if I was going to CVS, where they have to have you sign for everything because they have no idea who you are. I no longer recall how I heard about Red Mountain, but it was probably from a friend. Dr. Gagnon is a great guy, fun to talk to while he’s asking, «1 or 2; 3 or 4…» He is very thorough about possible eye injuries or defects or diseases, tracking the«cupping» in my retina where the optic nerve runs through, and I have 100% confidence in his medical competence. Where he really beats Schaeffer is that he is half the price for treatment that is probably a bit better because he remembers who you are. He has seen me and my(now) ex-wife, plus our kids, for about 15 years now I think! We’ve always been happy, and he and his staff always go the extra mile to make sure we are satisfied. I absolutely recommend going to see him about your eyes. We get 90% of our information about the world around us through our eyes. Don’t take a chance with your vision.
