Nice local eatery. We ordered the special and sat outside while enjoying the beautiful day. Gentleman who was working was very nice and informed us he was short handed but our food made it out very quickly. Would definitely go back! I added the Cajun potatoes to my meal and they were excellent!

We get BBQ for a medium sized group here every summer around July 4th. The price is good and the food is great. Pulled pork is moist, the sides are hot and taste great. Not your standard bland potato salad or beans. And their mac and cheese is delicious.

During a recent trip to Asheville, I had a chance to get off the interstate and check out Black Mountain. It has been over 15 years since visiting this quaint town. Driving around, we stumbled on State Street BBQ, and it looked like a good place to stop. I had the brisket, which had good flavor but was very dry. The green beans were cooked ok, but were not very flavorful. The baked beans were ok as well. The big hit for me was the sweet potato casserole, which was just outstanding, so light and fluffy and full of tasty flavor. I tried a few items from other guests meals as well. The pulled pork had good flavor and was moist. The fried okra, a dish that is so easy to fix poorly was seriously off the charts with a thin and crisp batter that added just the right amount of crunch and flavor, but still lets you taste the okra. I may be gushing, but it was truly the best fried okra I’ve ever had, and that’s after living in NC for ~25 years, with another 6 years in the south on top of that. Do not miss the chance to order this. The collard greens were well seasoned and spicy. The hush puppies were outstanding, so soft, moist, and doughy inside with a nice crisp crust on the outside. The half and half sweet/unsweetened tea was good as well as the coffee. If in the area, I’d definitely stop by again. Atmosphere: 3 Service: 4 Food: 3 Value:

Yuck! Is what my wife said when I asked how her food was. I felt about the same. Food looked almost as bad as it tasted. I regret eating the food and would never go back.

Ate here while on a road trip to Old Fort. Order the pulled pork sandwich. Tasty and moist, slaw was decent. I would go there the next time I pass through…
