The pastry are adequate. It doesn’t have the bakery quality that I would typically expect. The icing is a bit heavy. There are a lot of nuts in the desserts so keep an eye out if you’re allergic.

Why I didn’t discover NDBS when I was a student at VT, I don’t know. This is a gem of a shop — I stopped in over the weekend of the Hokie Half to get some studying done, and it’s everything you could want in a college coffeehouse. The espresso was excellent, well-priced, and although I didn’t get any of the baked goods, they looked(and smelled) delicious. I know where I’m stopping for coffee whenever I’m back in B’burg. Don’t be like me, try this place sooner!

We came here for breakfast last weekend for the first time, and it was great! The place was completely full of people, and the line was very long. It took a while to get our food, but the servers/staff were really kind(despite the crowds) and patient. We ordered a variety of tasty breakfast sandwiches, but for me the real winner was the house Toasted Almond coffee. The coffee was SO good and flavorful I could have had 10 more cups. Their drink menu is really extensive and seems to have any type of caffeinated drink you could want. It’s also very fairly priced.

Clearly all these reviews are written by college kids with no experience with decent breakfast joints. Unfortunately this place managed to screw up both our breakfast sandwiches and use subpar ingredients to add insult to injury. Bagels are very chewy and taste like they just grabbed em from the fridge. Would not recommend if you have other options.

I used to go there frequently for my daily cup of coffee. This is conveniently located and is super quick for picking something up between classes. Try their coconut lattes!

I really had my hopes up for this place after reading all the great reviews. I went there today to try it out during Blacksburg Restaurant Week and left disappointed. I feel like it could have been better if a little bit more attention went into the food by the people who are making it. The concept is there, but the execution is lacking. I ordered the Asian Fusion panini, with no onions, and pretzels on the side. I got the Thai Iced Tea on the recommendation of the nice cashier and a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. The tea is pretty good, although really sweet from the flavored syrup and very creamy. The sandwich was ok, but could have been really good if a little more attention went into it. I asked for no onions, the girl behind the counter even called it out with no onions, but it still had onions on it. The sesame dijon dressing was really good, but there was hardly any on the sandwich at all. The sandwich was mostly bread, which was tasty, and a very small layer each of turkey, bean sprouts, lettuce and one tomato, and onions. Again, the sandwich was ok, but I know it would have been so much better if it wasn’t all bread and had some more of the dressing on it. Unfortunately, the pretzels I was served were very stale, so I didn’t eat them. The cookie I bought was yummy. I would like to try this place again, but after spending $ 14 on tea, cookie, a sandwich that left a lot to be desired, and stale pretzels, I’m not sure I’m willing to spend more money there!

Food may be good but the milkshakes and bubble tea leave a lot to be desired. O Pass is still the best place to get bubble tea in the area and the milkshake tasted like ice and chocolate powder(chocolate Oreo one). Over priced and disappointed. Want a good milkshake and more than three flavor options? Go to cookout.

Good food, good coffee, bad service. Don’t come here if you’re in a rush, because it takes them minutes to make just about any item on the menu.

Wish I had found this place sooner than the last day of my visit to VA Tech. Will Def be back next time. Had the Thai Market breakfast sandwich. SPICYANDDELICIOUS. Scrambled egg, bacon, turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and spicy Thai Chili sauce on an everything bagel. They have lots of sanwiches, salads, and specialty drinks and smoothies. Plenty of nooks to sit down and enjoy breakfast or lunch with free wifi too. Soup Bowl sized large coffee mug too!

The atmosphere here is fantastic — it’s fun and bright! I personally think the coconut lattes are incredible. This is a wonderful place near campus to schedule meetings and stop for a simple lunch or coffee.

Nice bakery/coffee shop. I had the American ham and egg bagel. The sandwich was really good. The blueberry muffin was also quite tasty. They have lots of tables and free wifi. No doughnuts.

Paid 8 bucks and change for a soggy bagel sandwich and a large coffee. The ‘Thai Market’ sandwich was disappointing. Essentially a BLT with eggs, sriracha, and some other Asian themed sauce(sesame? Teriyaki? Not positive). Will not be ordering that again, I should’ve just stuck to a normal bagel sandwich with cream cheese or something similar

The workers are super nice and the atmosphere is nice too. The paninis are okay… But the breakfast sandwiches are pretty good. Bubble tea is terrible though, so I wouldn’t recommend getting that. The bubbles are hard and it tastes like their teas are water based instead of milk based. They also don’t do a good job dissolving all the powder…

This place gets five stars from me. Hands down five stars for Blacksburg, but I dare say five stars anyway. Coffee is the best in town, and they also have a wide variety of interesting tea and coffee drinks. For example, the lavender milk tea is delicious, a chai-like drink made I think from a bubble tea base(therefore be warned it is *sweet*). They were able to make mine dairy free with soymilk. Baked goods are phenomenal. I especially like the little chocolate cookies. Just the right small tasty morsel to accompany my afternoon coffee. Breakfast sandwiches are satisfying on a bagel of your choice, and lunch is tasty too. For everything there are LOTS of options classic and non-traditional with an Asian flare. There is something for everyone here, and sooo good. A welcoming place to work or chat with a friend with a variety of seating in comfy lounge mode or at upright tables.

Nextdoor Bakeshop, I really wanted to like you. But your coffee is terrible, your bubble tea worse(tapioca bubbles should not be hard!) and your employees consistently violate health code(putting food in their mouths, hair down, and wearing spaghetti straps all while preparing sandwiches. It makes me so sad. Step it up and I’ll be a loyal customer.

Super tasty. For the breakfast sandwiches NDBS certainly adds a unique twist to most of the standards like the Thai Market. Also the bacon cream cheese is on point. I am a big fan of the Sesame Dijon spread/salad dressing and sometimes ask for it as an extra on my bagel/sandwich. The desserts are dangerous. I haven’t met one that I don’t like. The chocolate chip banana bread, the lemon bar and the blondies are some of my go-tos. Every week there is a coffee hours near my office with NDBS cookies and mini-cupcakes and it is always a race to get the leftovers.

I have visited VT a couple times now and this is my first time here. Cute bakery shop and very quirky with pops of color from the paint on the walls to the chalkboard menu. The coffee and pastries were both good. The wifi was on the slow side but nothing unbearable. Great Blacksburg gem :)

So I like this place a lot, and my goal with this review is to give some constructive feedback so I can edit my rating up to 5 stars :) I’ve been several times, and plan to keep going since it’s so conveniently located, so would love to see some of my critiques addressed to make the place even better… I’ll break the review down with pros and cons: Pros: Really nice and interesting drink menu, with some hard to find items like bubble tea. Great selection of sandwiches, really delicious and yummy ingredients and combinations. Yummy breakfast sandwiches, and baked goods. Super nice owner who is often there, and really enjoys chatting with the customers, really a nice atmosphere there and very welcoming! Cons: The coffee really needs work. It’s really watered down tasting, and just generally the game needs to be stepped up here. A bake shop should serve up great coffee to go with the baked goods. Particularly with a Starbucks opening next door very soon… I’m NOT a Starbucks fan, but think to compete here there is some room for improvement on the coffee quality. And the sandwiches, while made with great ingredients, need a little work. Paninis need to be nice and crispy on the outside, and gooey and cheesy on the inside, but what I usually get leans more towards the soggy side and can be too cold. Often the meat and cheese are only filling a fraction of the sandwich area, and the lettuce-to-other stuff ratio tends to be way too high. Nobody wants an inch thick layer of lettuce on there. Also, the chips served on the side are nothing special, spending a tiny bit more on some better kettle cooked chips would really go a long way. For the prices, I would think that’s doable, maybe just shrink down the portion a tad since it’s pretty large now to make up the difference. Quality over quantity please!

I am excited to have found this place & am eager to try more of their items. I visited today and had Thai iced tea and a vegetable + cream cheese bagel sandwich. Both were great. The bagel was fresh and the ingredients plentiful. A friend of mine had the same sandwich and was comparably satisfied. She also ordered an Italian soda and had many syrup flavors to choose from. Service was pleasant and prompt, and there was plenty of seating, big windows, and free wifi. Their cupcake selection was somewhat limited, but perhaps they have less options on Sundays. I’ll update my review once I’ve had the opportunity to sample some more baked goods.

Cutest bake shop in the NRV! I wish I had come here earlier. The décor is bright & playful. There’s plenty of room to lounge, study, or just chitchat with friends. There’s even a kids’ area to play around in. The bubble tea sign & cupcake display totally caught my eye. Cupcakes are whimsically decorated. Flavors of both the frosting and cake are vanilla, chocolate, or buttercream. These cupcakes could definitely be competent contenders against Magnolia’s or Billy’s in NYC. Also, the drink choices: where else can you find a coconut latte? The drink has a light hint of coconut mixed with espresso. It’s just right, not too bold. :) Other unique drinks include salted caramel hot coco, steamed coconut milk, and green tea latte. Even their logo is too adorable. I had to take one of their free stickers. If I were a student at Virginia Tech, I’d definitely come here every day. (P.S. They also serve breakfast sandwiches all day and hot paninis. I will have to try the sandwiches out when I’m back in the area next time)
