If you’re looking for a well-established, cheap, friendly diner where all of the regulars go, this is the place. Though I live a couple hundred miles away, every time I come to Blair I stop at the Rainbow for breakfast. And that’s pretty much all they do here. I’m writing the first review for the rainbow most likely because, as you’ll quickly gather once you walk into the Rainbow, this isn’t really a Unilocal crowd. Here you’ll meet the farmers and families that are the bedrock of this community and truly the salt of the earth. Strike up a conversation! You might learn something, city slicker! You won’t find quiche or mimosas on their simple one-page menu. Here you get variations on eggs, steak, hash browns, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and omelettes. But at a third(seriously) of the price of most of my favorite Madison breakfast haunts, you really shouldn’t complain. It’s good, it sticks to your ribs, and the atmosphere brings you back to your(or maybe just my) childhood, or maybe even farther back.
