Kathy has been cutting my hair since I was 2 years old. I’ve been seeing her for over 20 years. She also cuts my mother’s, father’s, and grandmother’s hair. I recently moved away and I’m going to miss her.

I have been coming to this salon for 13 years and I am happy every single time. Kathy has been my stylist for the entirety of my time at Phase One and I could not be happier with her work. I have thick, curly hair and Kathy is the only person I trust to do my hair. I saw a recent comment that stated Kathy was rude. I whole heartedly disagree with this. She has a very dry sense of humor and it is possible that someone simply misinterpreted her humor for rudeness. Anyone who wants a stylist who really cares about your hair and your happiness, go see Kathy at Phase One!

The only reason this gets one star is because giving no stars is not an option. I had recently gotten my hair cut in my quest to find a new stylist. I’ve been to several that I liked, but always there was some thing that just wasn’t right with the cut. I admit — I’m picky. With short hair I think that’s natural. So, I drive by this salon daily on my way to work, it had good reviews so I decided to try it. Like I said, I had recently gotten a cut at another salon that I really didn’t care for completely. It wasn’t a BAD cut, it was just not exactly what I wanted and after asking the hairdresser three times to change what I didn’t like, and her not doing it, I gave up. I paid her for the cut and tipped her very well and decided to try another stylist. But that’s a different story. So, I go to the salon, and am informed by the EXTREMELY pleasant girl at the counter what I am to do each time I come to the salon — hang up my coat, and put on a smock. Thought that was odd but hey, no big deal. I am ushered back to the chair by an assistant and that’s when Kathy«graced me with her presence». I tried to begin to tell her what I didn’t quite like about my current style and what I wanted different. She asked me when I last had it cut and that’s where it went downhill(although truthfully I think she had an attitude before she even met me). I can only say that I have never been treated so poorly and rudely by anyone in a service profession in my life!!! Kathy may very well be the«best stylist» as another reviewer has stated but she was beyond rude and extremely condescending(I am being polite). First of all, she didn’t even bother to look at me as I described what I wanted different. She had an attitude from the minute she stepped over to the chair and finally, after she asked me «Are you just someone that goes from hairdresser to hairdresser???», I got up, politely told«nevermind», turned in my smock at the front desk, and walked out literally steaming. I won’t be treated poorly because my favorite stylist disappeared and I can’t find a new one to cut my short hair to her standard. And SERIOUSLY, how are you exactly to find the new stylist that your hair responds to if not trying new ones until you find one that clicks? A HORRIBLE experience. Absolutely HORRIBLE! This salon can keep their stupid smocks, and Kathy can keep her smug attitude.

Too bad the salon is so very far away for me now to go here regularly. Alex is really good. Some of my best haircuts and color have come from Phase One. I started going here because of my mom years ago and I’ve rarely received the same quality haircuts anywhere else. One of the nicest salons I’ve ever patronized– very professional front desk reception staff, five star treatment all around. Great haircuts and color, attentive service. Expensive, but when I’m there it feels as if I’m in an upscale salon in Beverly Hills or NYC. Everyone has always complimented my hair when I’ve gotten it cut here and I can’t in all honesty say that about every other salon I’ve gone too. Fortunately, I have found a good quality Flint area salon when I can’t drive down to Bloomfield Hills to see Alex. The only drawback is the long distance.

As soon as you walk in the door, the pampering begins! A friendly hostess greets you and calls the hairdresser to let them know you are here. Smocks on then off to the chair. Alex was very attentive to what I said I wanted and went above and beyond— this is the best cut I’ve had in forever! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and everything is clean and nice. They even offered me something to drink and people kept checking on me while the toner was in. You can tell that Alex really cares about his salon and work, and I loved how he told all the girls what a great job they were doing… Nice boss! He even had the girl curl and style my hair after because I told him I was having dinner party later that night. I honestly left feeling like a queen. Made my next appointment before walking out the door. Great experience!!!

Really nice stylists, but they told our group that a blow out was $ 40, and charged $ 58. I asked why, and they said it was because it took longer. Than what? A regular blow out? Didn’t apologize or anything. Not a gray experience overall.

I am that jerk that leaves getting a mani and pedi to mere HOURS before a wedding. In a sudden state of panic, I called up Phase-One and they told me Kendra, their nail technician, had an opening at 1pm. I had to be at the wedding by 4pm. I’ll take it I said. I show up and tell her that in the current state of my nails I will probably need some acrylics. She informed me she doesn’t do acrylics. State of panic instantaneously revisited. She said not to worry that she can make my nails wedding worthy– and that she did. She lathered so much cuticle oil on the tips of my digits I thought I wouldn’t be able to carry a darn thing for the rest of the day. Turns out she knew what she was doing, because I actually had people COMPLIMENT me on my nails that night– scary thought if you have seen how bad they get. She did it in a timely manner. and was really enjoyable to talk to during the whole thing. Pricing is pretty standard for the area, so don’t expect cheap-o salon prices… I think its 20 – 25 for a mani and 52 for a pedi… I really liked how she did my fingernails– the toesies I was satisfied with, but not completely blown away. I’d go back for a mani– but save some dough and go to a cheapy place for the pedi.
