Mr Fix It

I broke my iPhone screen a day before I was leaving town. I called Mr. Fix It and he was able to work me in later that day. Even though it seemed strange being located in same place as a pool hall, he was very knowledgeable, and I was thrilled to have my phone repaired on short notice.

I contacted the owner regarding replacing the screen of my android. He said the cost would be $ 135, and I’d have to pay in advance to order the part, which would take about a week. OK. I needed time to think about whether this would be worth it, and eventually decided to go for it. I wasn’t comfortable giving credit card info over the phone; instead I wanted to go in and get a sense of the place before committing. I struggled to find the place since there’s just a piece of paper taped to a window at a bar that kind of suggests that maybe it is in there. Of course, the bar was closed. I texted the guy again to ask where I was supposed to go. He said he wasn’t in, but didn’t answer my question. I asked when he would be in, and he said in a couple hours, maybe more. I could have probed further, explicitly saying OK, let’s make an appointment. But that’s kind of his job to say I need an appointment if he doesn’t want to be available during the hours listed on his website. It just didn’t seem like he wanted my business, so it was hard to feel like I could trust him with my money and my phone.

First of all, this business is run out of a bar, which is not only unprofessional, but confusing and hard to figure out. Second, my husband called the owner (Mr. FixIt), asked him if he could fix my phone, to which he said yes. We told him we would be there in 10 – 15 minutes. It took us no longer than that time to get there, in which time the owner had left to «run an errand.» Again, unprofessional, blatantly rude, and obviously someone who isn’t looking for the business.

I had my iPhone screen replaced for $ 100, and it cracked again 3 days later, after I tossed it lightly onto my bed. I’ve sent a couple of messages via the website with no response. In sharing my experience with a friend I learned that she had a similar experience through this service. The corner of her screen was sticking up, and when she pressed on it the screen shattered.
