This is my favorite mountain record store. They’ve got a great collection with lots of different genres to choose from. I plan on investing in a record player soon and I know I’ll be buying it from here… along with a few records! I really wish places like this were more popular.

We had a few hours of fun here on a rainy day. Nostalgia married wish list favs and we walked out with some fine finds for little money. Cds, dvds, vinyl and books flow in on a midnight train and you just have to shovel your way through the cargo to find what you like. They try to organize by staff picks or genres, but it’s haphazard at best. Just wade in and flip through. No dissembling though, i asked the owner if he knew what he had and he said«no,» okay then. Fat cats also sells new as well as used items, books and music, and you can rent dvds for watching. Friendly, good prices, free parking and memory trippin.

Been around for decades, and it shows. Nothing gets renovated, or updated, or marketed properly. Used items that have been there for over ten years and are never going to sell because they’re marked way too high. THISPLACEWILLSCAMYOU! Beware if you get a rental account there, you will be targeted if you are a young student, and you will be charged multiple times on your account if you have ONE late fee. Late fees rack up very quickly, so don’t be that guy, or else they will make your life hell. New records and cds are absurdly priced and can be found much cheaper at other local record shop, or even online. Same goes for books, they’re all from . Special ordering is a rip off as well. They never order things on time, despite their guarantee of quick ordering and«10% off special orders». The orders are actually marked up anywhere from 40−80% from Amazon prices, and can take weeks, sometimes even months, to come in to the store. If you don’t pick up your order within their own made up time frame, they will just re-shelf your order and sell it. Almost every movie, especially any older or popular movie rentals skip and are unplayable. There is a return policy, but it’s rigged, so you’re not really being compensated for that last crucial 25 minutes of the movie you WAnted to watch. Owner is racist/sexist/capitalist pig and charms/pities his way out of any problem and plays up his under dog persona. Not a trustworthy or respectable business owner and makes the rest of small town business owners look bad. Has a terrible reputation and extremely high turn over rate. Skip this dump, and go buy records locally at 641 rpm, on King St., and get your movies/books/etc. online.

I’m pretty pleased with my visit to Fat Cats. When I was in college at ASU, at the time we only had one music store & it only had CDs. Now Boone has two music/record shops, which is great for the community. While the selection was vast, I was a bit disappointed it wasn’t broken down by genre. You really had to search through each section, therefore, you need to make sure you have plenty of time to «dig». From what I saw, the prices were pretty good. They have new & used records. Also, they have books, CDs, & DVDs. The two female employees — quite possibly ASU students — were really nice & helpful. They were quite busy helping some older gentleman with purchases & they were really patient with them. The store itself, while small, packs in a lot of product.

Love the Cat! Just looking through the cds and books or getting them to order me something old and awesome! They are great! Long live independent music stores!

Fat Cats is by far the best record store in Boone, and better than any other record store I’ve been to in the southeast. It even rivals some of cooler indie stores in Seattle on Capitol Hill. One thing cooler than any(that I’m sure no music store in Seattle did) was a memorial they put up for dimebag darrell after his unfortunate passing. They have all the obscure music your superior tastes salivate over. From piano jazz to conscience hip hop, new grass to ska punk. And if they for some ungodly reason don’t have what you’re after either a) someone just picked up the last copy and they’ll be happy to special order it for you or b) your music taste sucks and they’ll direct you to wal-mart or the mall, you pathetic music novice you. ;) PS — It’s good to be back Unilocaling it up again.

It’s been a while since I lived in Boone but while I was there this was one of my favorite places. This is the place for indie, foreign, doc, cult, and b movies. They’ve also got a great record selection. If you CAN’T find it anywhere else, they’ve got it. If you CAN, they probably don’t.
