We were on our way to the Saxon Aerospace Museum(next door) and we arrived right at opening time. As luck would have it the place was locked. No one around. Well as places like this are usually, especially in the smaller town, like Boron, staffed by volunteers, we weren’t too surprised. A few minutes later a pickup with two guys pulls up and they wave one finger indicating, I think, that it will just be few minutes. Well they park their truck and tell us that the person who is opening the museum today, was having breakfast and they pointed at the restaurant across the street. No problem I say. So I wander next door to the 20 Mule Team Museum. Now this place I have driven by for many years, and not stopped as the grounds look pretty sad, A bunch of ferric oxide disguised as mining equipment. So I go into the museum, which is also the chamber of commerce of Boron, and sign the guest book and start looking around. Seemed a bit small and then I was greeted by the staff member and told about the back room, which she lit up and and museum begins to take shape. There are several back rooms with models, displays, and photographs of the 20 Mule Team Experience. There is a viewing area for a movie about the mules and how they were used in the transport of the borax and mining effect. The movie is informative and told me more about mules than I ever thought I would need to know. The collection of history is a nice stop to break the trip, be it Vegas, Phoenix or beyond. I enjoy the work volunteers put into preserving history that would otherwise just fade to dust in the desert. Oh Yes! Free. So help support it with a donation!

Cool little museum that shares plenty of Boron Borax history. The little lady that works there is willing to share we vast amount of Boron knowledge. Ask her about the bell miners pulled to warn others they were coming! If you’re ever traveling close to Boron, make the stop its free(give a donation) and fun!

The Museum is a nice small place. The lady that works there is extremely knowledgable and helpful. If you’re passing by, take some time and stop at the museum. If you do stop, be sure to wash your hands with the borax soap in the restrooms!

This is literally right next door to the Saxon Aerospace Museum. This one is a county museum, focusing on the history of the area with many many many historical items and displays. It is very well done but outdated, it needs some love. Worth the stop for history buffs.

This musem is free so you really can’t complain. This is a small little museum that only requires about a 15 minute visit. No overly exciting exhibits. The woman working there was very interested in telling you about the jewelry she makes from rocks she finds in the desert. Made me feel a bit uncomfortable.

If you love history you will love this little museum in Boron California. There are artifacts there used by the miners for over a hundred years at the Boron mine a few miles away that is famous for its Twenty Mule teams. These 20 mule teams hauled Borax in huge wagons from the mine and were featured on such old TV shows as «Death Valley Days.» The history presented here is amazing. As a matter of fact Boron has a few museums right next to each other one is even an aerospace museum. There are great restaurants in Boron like the K and L corral and Domingos Mexcican restaurant which has the best ranch dressing I have ever tasted.

Cool little museum just off the 58 fwy– exit 199– head two blocks south– dedicated to the 20 mule teams that hauled Borax out of death valley back in the day. Don’t miss the cool Twenty Mule Team tote– suitable for grocery shopping at your finest urban grocery stores– sure to turn heads at the Trader Joes in West LA/SF, etc.
