Love this place, quaint pub, excellent food and service, reasonable pricing, and country tunes playing

This bar is located near the Freedom Trial by the State House which is perfect for anyone who needs a quick pick me up after seeing some of the amazing sights along the trail. Beers are priced average for being in a bustling downtown area, which is to be expected. The food looked great. One sign of a great place to eat is when an employee eats the food from there. Staff was perfection. They were nice, friendly, and even provided tourists like us some great tips about the city. The beer was cold and fresh. Atmosphere was clean, perhaps even a bit upscale divey with a touch of historical. The other patrons were young professionals who like to relax after work. I would definitely add this stop to my next Freedom Trial journey.

Visiting Boston and stopped in here for a drink. Awesome place with a laid back atmosphere for a beer or five. In particular, my bartender Johannes was amazing. What a great guy.

Very dark on the inside. It was the first place we went to in Boston and we got the buffalo chicken nachos(too much sour cream on top). I would go again.

Got the nachos with chili, which were amazing. Very dark and crowded in the bar area. But a good spot to go for drinks.

Nice cozy bar with a nice vibe and solid bartenders but would not recommend to go to for food as this is not a true gastropub.

90s R&B’R’Us It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. The same drink ordered multiple times was inconsistent, the bartenders seemed«over it». I would go back to give it another try, but I don’t live anywhere near Boston, so… meh.

I came here for lunch on a Saturday in February. The place is tiny, but in an old-school-pub kind of way. I’ve been here before for drinks after work, but I wasn’t expecting the food to surprise me as much as it did. I had the goat cheese and cranberry salad with chicken, but I SHOULD have ordered what my date did, the southwestern turkey club on sourdough. That and the fries were super delicious, I’ll be back so I don’t have to keep stealing from his plate and order my own. :)

I’ve eaten here a couple of times. This time I was on my own and sat at the bar. Wasn’t planning on eating but decided to order the Nachos. Wow! A monster platter of fresh spicy salsa, chili drizzled nachos topped with a mound of sour cream and guacamole. I don’t usually gush about nachos but these were the best I’ve ever had. There, I said it! Partnered by some great Guinness this bar is everything you could ask for. Loved it! Friendly staff too!

Great«dive» bar experience. Very small. Nice to grab drinks with friends and in a great part of town. Was hoping for a larger beer menu and can’t speak to the food menu because I have not ate here yet.

Ok drinks, good vibe, above average 20 – 30’s clientele with a disengaged service staff that’ll notice when your drink is running low– providing it’s alcoholic($) — if you want to engage with a diverse, group of young professionals and students this is a decent place

Good food, prices, and sizable portions! Big fan of the sweet potato fries and the southwestern turkey club. Our waitress was also super nice and attentive.

Seriously underwhelming experience. My husband and I sat at our table for over 30 minutes without ever being greeted by waitstaff or offered menus, water or drinks. Drinks were good but slow to arrive. The food was good but overpriced once we were finally able to order.(after being there over an hour) our waitress never introduced herself or checked in on our table unless she was flagged down, which was difficult because of the tiny space and crowded atmosphere. We were never offered water or other drinks at all. I’m not sure why this place is so highly rated but I know we won’t be back.

With a name like that, why would you not exercise your right. Everybody can delightfully grab a beer that presumable John Kerry and a few famous Bostanians stops in for a drink. It’s a bit of a divey bar, like most bars in Boston. It’s historic, old, dark with local brews with just enough grime to feel comfortable in. Our server recommended the hard cider by Downeast and the Gray Lady. Both rec’s were superb and perfectly described. Hard cider is made from real apples and taste like it too while the other beer had hints of cardamom and spice. We tried looking for Downeast at the grocery store, so sad we couldn’t find it, so totally make sure you get some here. We got a side of stringy onion rings too, at $ 4 a good portion. I’ll just say, whatever you get, make sure to ask for the Chipotle mayo. You can put that in anything, you know what I’m saying! Affordable, friendly,(awesome service than any dive bar I’ve ever been in period — you earned that extra star), good food and a perfect drinking hole in the heart of Boston. It’s your right! Exercise it!

We didn’t get any food but just popped in for a couple drinks. It’s located right off Boston Common so a perfect place to stop as you are sightseeing or warm up from the cold New England air. It’s a small old tavern style pub as many places are in boston. It’s not fancy but definitely not a dirty dive like many of the other pubs can be. We felt very comfortable in here, the service was friendly, attentive, and seemed to chat up the locals. They had a handful of locals beers on tap, I didn’t pay too much attention to the bottled options as I opted for a dark & stormy. The bar area is pretty small, not cramped.. . but cozy(just like how realtors describe small apartments), with that said, you will most likely be standing unless you are lucky enough to grab a seat at the bar like we were. It’s a casual place to grab a drink and catch up with some friends.

Came on a Sunday night and it happened to be trivia night. The place was packed and noisy with a pretty cool vibe. But right after trivia ended it cleared out and you could almost hear a pin drop. It was such a weird and quick transition and almost felt like we arrived and left two completely different bars. I was also surprised by the rich history of this place — apparently John F. Kennedy wrote speeches here and it was home to the city’s first elevator. Had I not already known — I would have never guessed. The history is definitely underutilized.

I think this place is amazing maybe it’s because I’ve working across the street for over 3 years now or maybe it’s because I’ve a ton of good memories(sometimes lack of) about this place. The entire place is sort of small, a dinning area and a standing room bar area. I wouldn’t recommend this place for a sports game only due to the lack of T.V.s. However, if you’re meeting up with friends and looking for a casual place to drink and talk this place is it. No dancing though :(, but you can dance if you want to people will just look at you weird. The food is pretty good and the portions are on point, even if you just get the fries they’re great. The service is always friendly, a couple of times our orders have gotten mixed up but I blame the high volume of customers and not the staff. 21st is life, 21st is love.

Incredible! Short rib grilled cheese was to die for. Buffalo chicken wrap was amazing. The service was great… we went on a Sunday at lunch… got seated and served by the bar tender. The only complaint was when the server brought my husband another round she brought him the type of beer I had… not his original… not enough to lose a star. Amazing. Would go back again without a doubt…

There are better places. I am shocked when reviewers have said they would like to become regular here, because the place is so mediocre. It’s a dive that isn’t priced like a dive. Beer selection is decidedly boring. Draft beers were skunked or something — tap lines weren’t clean? Anyways, I didn’t eat the food, but I glanced at the menu — it’s just so average and boring and deserving of the«meh» rating.

Small bar, definitely not somewhere you want to go with a large group. Good beer selection, the night I was there there was a watermelon beer special, with a huge chunk of fresh watermelon on the rim, definitely a great choice. It can get super dark and really loud in here, for some reason a lot of large groups show up, so it can he bard to move or hard to get to the bar. Definitely a better choice for casual afterwork drinks or a midday beer, avoid late at night if you don’t want a crowd.

Cozy, comfortable environment – nice neighborhood bar. Solid beer selection and the fries are good. It gets super painfully crowded on the weekends(people just standing around talking, there’s no dancing or anything), but it’s good for after-work drinks, especially in the winter. It takes forever to flag down the bartenders on Fridays/Saturdays. There’s standing room by the bar(with some high-top tables), then a separate dining area with tables(that seem to be hard to snag!).

Stopped by just for a snack and a quick drink. Husband had some kind of cranberry cider which was pretty good. We shared a baked potato soup which was pretty amazing. I tend not to go for the creamier soups, but this one was really, really good. Great place to get out of the cold and warm yourself up with some beer and soup. Cute overall vibe and cool theme. Fuck prohibition.

Really enjoyed this place. It was crowded but my date was able to grab a seat at a table in the bar area(we had a server). I wish that they had a better cider selection. It seemed that the only cider on the menu was the downeast cranberry in a can and there was not any cider on tap. I asked for an angry orchard because it was in a drink on their menu but was told that they did not have angry orchard. Got some standard chicken tenders with honey mustard which satisfied my hunger. Overall, the atmosphere was nice and the music was great! Would definitely return to this place. This is a good place to go if you just want to get a drink or go to dinner with friends. It’s not too loud(you can still have a conversation here).

Stopped here for a drink after work on a Friday afternoon. Decent size crowd both eating and drinking. I ordered an «angry» apple, which was delicious and a nice balance between whiskey and cider. Super friendly staff… my friend ordered the blueberry cocktail and didn’t get the graham cracker rim as promised on the menu and the waitress happily took it back to add it.(Girl really just wanted her graham crackers.) Dark and small main room with a nice, casual décor. Recommend it for a laid back drink and dinner. We didn’t eat, but the table next to us ordered burgers and onion rings and they smelled amazing. Definitely will go back for dinner

Beautiful inside and very warm – does the fireplace still work? Yes, the staff are hot. The drinks were strong and seeminly layered as they were a lot different after we mixed them(dark and stormy and Moscow mule). I had the quesidilla which was really good – not too much of any one component. Sour cream was whipped so it went on easy, but the salsa was too chunky. Friend had the burger with onion rings on it and liked it a lot, although it fell apart. Onion rings were ‘strings’ so connected on one side, abd very peppery and good. Pickel was too big though.
