I have lived here for 7 years (yikes!) and only just discovered BU’s Wine Resource Center. it’s fabulous. the end.
Okay maybe not the end. the WRC offers a four level certificate program for wine and spirit studies. The courses run between 9 weeks (for level 1) to 14 weeks (levels 2 – 4) and are 3 hours each taught on a rotating schedule by 3 of Boston’s most prestigious industry leaders, including 2 Masters of Wine (they’re «kind of a big deal»). Each has a very different teaching style and the courses are well designed with ample tastings, great instruction and dense reading material.
So you can go that route, if your interest in wine is borderline obsessive and you are pursuing a career in the wine industry. The WRC also offers one-​off seminars, dinners and symposiums that are really spectacular, and not all wine-​dominated (for those who like to eat). Winter/​spring 2007 they’ve offered a Wine and Cru Chocolate course, a Food and Wine Writing symposium, a Food and Wine pairing at Legal Sea Foods, a European Pastry demonstration by Jorg Amsler, Coffee tastings with George Howell and a night of cooking with Sara Moulton. and on and on.
This is really where BU can shine because it’s national brand recognition can really draw in superstars from all over the country. The seminars run anywhere from $ 20 — $ 110++ and you definitely do get your money’s worth.
