Made an appointment last minute to get an updo for a black tie event. Glen was available and did an amazing job. I have very fine, short, straight hair and without even a picture of what I wanted, just a generic description of «a sleek, low bun,» Glen created an amazing bun, right on the money. I’m not sure where he got all the hair to do it! Great atmosphere, friendly, so happy with the result. Highly, highly recommend.

You know what I have been going there for over 25 years I never consider writing a review! Well todays the day, I’ve been going to Frankie and I love him, never need to tell him what I need, usually a cut and color, my hair is so well cut that it just grows out wonderfully, people always comment on my hair, I just take it for granted! But everyone is so nice from Bonnie down to the girls that wash my hair! Even Glenn, Frankie’s neighbor and partner in crime! They are always busy! But you just have to go and trust their vision, they know hair!!!

I was referred here by a friend when I first moved back to Boston and I have been a regular customer ever since. Great place! Hado is fantastic; I consistently get great hair cuts and highlights without all the fuss sometimes found on Newbury Street. Staff is friendly. It is easy to get an appointment without having to call months in advance. Highly recommend!

I’ve lived in Massachusetts for 8 years and during that time, I’ve been searching for the perfect salon. I’ve been to the best salons in Northboro and Worcester but no one was ever able to do exactly what I wanted for my hair. At long last, I finally found Diego’s! I was a little worried at first because I couldn’t commit to a four hundred dollar cut and color every six weeks but I went anyway. I read some other reviews that said Bonnie would be able to fit a person with the right stylist. I called and she answered. I told Bonnie my issues… that I have a problem with frizz and that I just wanted a colorist who could color my hair and it not have a trace of red in it. My hair is brown and it seems like everywhere I went, my hair always wound up with a red tinge to it. Bonnie said she could put me with a Master Stylist or the owner. I chose the owner. She also told me that she would have a color specialist color my hair. For the cut, it was fantastic! Nestor asked how much time I spent on my hair, realistically. Not much, I said. I wanted a cut that was great for my face shape but also something that I didn’t have to fuss over. Very little product and very little styling. I can’t say enough how perfect this cut was. He spent time on the texture of my hair and took into consideration that I have an issue with frizz. I didn’t give him any idea of what I wanted, I told him to just give me what he thought was best and it was perfect. Just perfect. For the color, I had an appointment with Mark. He looked over my hair, not scoffing at all that my roots had grown out over two inches. He took a good amount of time looking at my natural color vs how the remaining color had faded. I told him what color I wanted and he brought out a board with color samples on it and asked me what I saw when I said I wanted ‘chocolate brown’. I pointed out two similar colors and told him again that I didn’t want a trace of red. Mark said that since I had«a lot going on», we should focus on getting my color how I wanted it and if I wanted highlights, we’d talk about those on my next visit once we saw how my hair faded, making sure I was happy with it. I liked it so much that I didn’t even want highlights at my next appointment! It was absolutely incredible that he was able to do exactly what I wanted. Not«I like it but its not exactly what I wanted», this really was EXACTLY what I wanted. And no red at all! I can’t say enough how wonderful this salon is. Nestor, Mark, Bonnie, they’re my Hair Dream Team! And… I didn’t even spend half of what I thought the cost was going to be! Incredible for Newbury Street, I’d say. So if you’re trying to decide if you want to go here, stop. You want to go here!

My husband needed a haircut badly before leaving to go out of town and we hadn’t made appointments so I found a few places on Newbury St. using Unilocal that had decent reviews and told him to walk by a couple places and walk into one of them to see if they could take him. Diego was very nice, they are located on the second floor in a cute little salon with great light and great people watching. Ha Do is who cut my husband’s hair and he did an excellent job. He used only scissors and not the buzz trimmers(which always look good at first but then grows out funny) and very thorough and quick. He did a great job and was super reasonably priced.

My Dream Team here to note includes: Bonnie, at the Desk: a position NOT to be taken lightly. She’s down to earth, creative, razor-sharp, and the thread that holds many things together. She just tells it like it is, period. If you need to re-arrange appointments/dates/times, no problems, she takes care of it. If you need a chocolate fix, she can arrange that, too. No small feat. Nestor: Owner/Stylist, Perfectionist, Patient, cuts hair like there’s No Tomorrow(and really, when he gets hold of damaged split ends, there IS no tomorrow, for them!!!). His haircuts grow out perfectly. And finally, Mark/Colorist: What can you say about a Guy Who Colors Hair? That he Listens, that he Gets it, that people complement your hair color and hair condition, is a testament to his work. And while they are surrounded by many talented others not specifically mentioned, taken together, this is a really great group of people @ Diego Boston!

I went for the first time yesterday to this salon, and I can honestly say that this is the best my hair has ever looked. I was kind of afraid to go get it done at this point because my roots were atrocious, but Ha Do was really nice about not criticizing me for waiting far too long to get it re-dyed. My hair is now shiny and just the right color for my complexion. He took his time doing my layers, even though I was his last client and I’m sure he wanted to go home. And, after all that, with the 25% off of my first visit(thanks Unilocal!) it was the cheapest hair cut/dye I’ve ever had. Also, shout out to the guy who washed my hair. literally, that scalp massage has been the highlight of my week.

The one thing that I care the most about is my hair. It has been through a lot of stylist from Vietnamese hair stylist to American hair stylist. I have never been able to find a hair stylist that I absolutely love or take care of my hair like it was their own until I was referred to Ha Do, hairstylist at Diego. I went to see Anh Ha(polite way to call someone in Vietnamese) for almost 4 years now. I was referred to him by my boss who cuts her hair there for years by another stylist. The place is on Newbury Street, so I was cautious about the cost. However, I was surprise by how cheap it is. The price is comparable to local Vietnamese hair salons. After my first trip, I fell in love and go back there every 3 to 6 months. I changed my hair colors based on the season, so my hair is pretty damage from time to time, but he took good care of it. He is so meticulous about how he cut and color my hair. I always feel so pretty after going to the salon. Beside Anh Ha, the staff at Diego is so nice. The girls that washed my hair was amazing! I love chatting up a storm with them. Would go back again and again. Faithfully your, Hieu

Nestor at Diego is truly a master of cutting and styling. Anyone(male or female) who has the opportunity to partake of his artistry will be more than pleased with the outcome. He instinctively knows what is best for his client and never settles for less than perfection. The salon itself is pleasant and elegantly tasteful. Bonnie is the receptionist I usually encounter. She is warm, intelligent, and welcoming-always a delight. Diego is a completely satisfying and pleasurable experience.

So, I moved here from Los Angeles about 1.5 years ago and was on the hunt for a GOOD hairstylist who could highlight my looong, dark, thick, Middle Eastern hair without giving it that trashy brassy/redish tone… I HATERED!!! I wanted brownish-blond well blended highlights that wont look like zebra stripes. I was referred to HA Do at Diego by a friend who swore up and down and promised me a full money back guarentee… not to mention a promise to fly me out to LA to get my hair done if I was not satisfied. So, I took a leap and went Ha Do and WOW! He was so meticulous and totally put up with my high maintenance demands for perfection. He spent SEVEN… I kid you not SEVEN hours on my hair as my hair requires a lot of time. He also gave me a cut & wonderful style. My hair looks so good that I have not washed it for 5 days because it look soooo GOOD! So, I dont care what kind of hair you got – you cant go wrong with Ha Do at Diego.

Good location but most importantly I love my stylist Cara. After asking my friends(who’s hair always looked great) who cut and colored their hair they told me it was on Cara at Diego on Newbury St. Not as expensive as most Newbury places either. It’s clean, modern, and gets the job done. Most importantly Cara is awesome. I had never had highlights or any color in my hair and she did a great job. It’s been over 3 months and I’m still getting compliments on the color, time to go back!

Some of the stylists who work here are good. The problem I have is with the owner, Nestor. It seemed that because I wasn’t a local celebrity, I wasn’t much use to him. He spent most of the time he was cutting my hair chatting with other, I guess more important people who entered the salon. If he wasn’t doing that, he was stopping to take phone calls. Also, be prepared for no hot water in the bathrooms. Eww. Apparently Nestor is a cheapskate too. I asked one of the other stylist what the deal was, and she said it was a way he saved money. Sorry, but if you’re a salon on Newbury Street, you don’t cut off the hot water in the bathrooms to save money. I don’t want you cutting my hair with your pee-splattered hands — thanks anyway.

I would first like to thank the woman there who rescued my ends from blunt-scissored home-job –form-my-sister haircut. I promised her my sister will never cut anyones hair ever again. I am almost not going to review this place because the assistant stylists give free haircuts and once word gets out I will never be able to get a booking. But I decided I must because I gave my gal less tip than she deserved(all the cash I had though) and her praise must be sung virtually. It works two ways for the free cuts. 1.) you can go on a Tuesday evening where there are about three assistant stylists(read newish to the profession) being guided by a teacher about how to cut this particular persons hair. Imagine a kind man with salt and pepper hair saying«think of the head as a pie you have to cut it in sections» and«so many hair dressers think of the head as a box, you have to cut it as if it is a sphere». or 2. you can go on a regular day the teacher will be more hands off and have an assistant stylist wash and cut your hair for FREE. before she is done, one of the teachers will check you out, make sure everything is even and good, he may do a little snipping and ta-da you have gotten a free cut at a Newbury salon!(but please y’all tip her like you would for a regular haircut) I had Alyssa twice and she is great, but she takes a bit longer than most 20yr on the job hairdressers. I find this to be its only downside, but honestly, I would not want a person who is still learning to cut hair to do it rushed. She told me that if I wanted highlights they would be $ 35(ish?) for partial foils and 60(some?) for full! Thats a bargain!!! The salon also has seasoned pros to cut your hair, but I don’t know the price range. This place is really down to earth, no incense, no smell of nails being done, no back room(that i know of) for eyebrow waxes. Now about my cut. I think honestly the first one was better than the second: this time is a smidgen too short. But to her credit, my sister did some serous Edward Sicisorhands meets Sweeny Todd work on my hair. Apparently one side was two inches or more shorte than another, with blunt scissors = a lot must come off to make it look healthy again. Thank you Alyssa!
