Ugh, I would have given this place four stars if it wasn’t so dingy. Otherwise, this place is a lovely(dirt-covered) little gem! Upon first entrance, I was scared, and thought I’d see a rat or something, but it has become incredibly handy. For example, last week I was eager to bake, and didn’t want to walk all the way to Foodie’s for provisions. In came Mass Food Market, prepared with not only sugar and flour, but chocolate chips and coconut flakes! From a tiny convenience store! It was great. They have good sandwiches. Once you get past the sketch factor and enjoy a delicious Tremont St., you’ll be finding yourself heading back(the sandwiches are cheap, too – less than $ 7 for a big, meaty bite!). They dress the lettuce on the sandwiches in some sort of oily vinaigrette, which is a surprising touch from such a small place. They also have a lot of Goya products. And who doesn’t love Goya, who sells fried plantains for less than 2 bucks?

I spend most Sundays boozing and brunching with my friends in the South End. This little convenience store is right next to my friend’s(the host) apartment, so it’s the default location for any needed items. They sell the standard convenience store goods(no alcohol, cry) and they also have a little deli where they make sandwiches. One of my friend’s loves getting sandwiches here, I think he’s crazy… The shop itself is rather filthy. The floors look like they’ve seen better days, the aisles are cramped, and overall it looks like it’s in desperate need of a shower(the same could probably be said of me during those Sunday brunches). It kind of sickens me that the eggs we scramble and bacon we fry are bought from here — I’m waiting for the doctor to call and say, «Your results are in — it’s the plague!» In the end, laziness dictates spending habits at this store. I would never go out of my way to come here.
