I reserve my Unilocal reviews for exceptional good or bad experiences. This was the WORST hair experience of my life. Price — outrageous at $ 220 for partial highlights and a trim. I came in with multiple examples of what I wanted for color and got exactly the opposite. Random streaks of orange over my dark brown hair… and they were uneven and only covered one side of my head! I had to call out of work the next day because I was so embarrassed about how horrible it looked. I would NEVER return, this salon should NOT be tagged as «corrective color» salon. It gave me nothing but a headache and more money out of my pocket to correct it.

I always go to Kay at Mayfair for my hair, because she is the absolute BEST! She has done my hair for interviews, weddings, nights out, you name it, and I always come out looking and feeling amazing. She’s very knowledgeable and is always up-​to-​date on the latest styles. The salon itself is adorable too, with great customer service, a relaxing atmosphere, and great products.

I went to see Kaelyn a few weeks ago to have my highlights redone after my usual stylist did a sub-​par (actually, horrible) job a few months prior, and I can confidently say I’ll never go anywhere else!
I’m just about 4 weeks out now, and I still finding new things I love about my color — I loved it when she first did it, I loved it even more the next day when I saw it in full-​daylight, and I’m still completely in love with it with a few weeks of regrowth.
Kaelyn is a total perfectionist, and her attention to detail is unsurpassed by any other stylist I’ve encountered before. My biggest issue with my previous style was the erratic placement and size of my highlights, which made them look unnatural, and really harsh in certain places. Kaelyn pays tedious attention to the placement of each foil, and as a result, my new highlights are even and flawless, and my hair has dimension and depth — whether my hair is up or down, curled or straight, the highlights look natural and balanced.
Kaelyn has a natural affinity for color — I gave a very basic description of what I was looking for, and not only did she meet my expectations, but she far exceeded them, and came up with a color/​style that worked with my hair type and my coloration. Not only that, but the cut/​blow out she gave me was stellar. Super efficient, too — the entire appointment took less than 2 hours, and I have a lot of fairly thick, hard to manage hair.
The salon itself is adorable, and incredibly convenient/​easy to get to, and carries some fantastic product lines — it’s really nice/​refreshing to get away from the busier, crazier environments of some of the Newbury Street salons.
So grateful to have a stylist I can trust to do an outstanding job!

Several years ago, I suffered a color *disaster* at the hands of another salon that shall not be named. A colleague pointed me to Kaelyn and Mayfair on the Hill. We came up with a plan to get my hair back to something resembling normal and also turns out, Kaelyn cuts curly hair like a star. I’ve not strayed since. We did another dramatic color change almost 2 years ago and I still love it. While Kaelyn was on leave last year, I had my hair cut and colored by Kay and she also did a great job. The atmosphere is nice, they are always friendly and it’s very easy to get to from the Charles MGH T stop. The salon is now under Kaelyn’s management/​ownership and she’s doing a great job!

I first moved to Boston two years ago for law school. With no friends or classes yet, I found myself with some time to kill. So, I ventured out in my new Beacon Hill neighborhood to get my hair done. I stumbled upon Mayfair, where I booked an appt. with Kay.
I have very thin hair, which I get highlighted. So I went in for a color and cut. Kay did an amazing job! I have been going to her ever since.
Now, I will let you know that this place isn’t cheap. Since I only get my hair done about twice a year, it’s worth it for me to splurge.
Overall, Mayfair is awesome! The staff is always very friendly and you always get the best treatment.

After trying half a dozen places since moving here, I finally found a winner! I’ve gotten haircuts from Kaelyn three times, and each is better than the last. These cuts last 3 – 4 months for me and still look great. Cut was $ 65, which is the top of my budget, but well worth it. Be sure to bring cash for tips, though, since you can’t add it on if you pay by credit card.

I lived in Beacon Hill for a year and this place was great. I loved Kay, she was nice and clearly knew what she was doing. I found it very relaxing to be in there, nice environment. Mayfair is also reasonably priced for the area, not as much as Newbury but not cheap. Sadly, I moved to Brighton so I can’t go as conveniently anymore.

My first experience at Mayfair on the Hill wasn’t the greatest, but the owner, Claire, more than made it up to me. Her quaint salon is friendly and comfortable and she does an awesome blow-​out.

I’ve recently moved to the Boston area from «The Hamptons» and was so pleased to find Mayfair on the Hill! The moment I walked in the door, I was instantly at ease and comfortable in this new-​to-​me salon. The girls were professional, friendly and eager to help me with my coat, bag, and a cup of tea (made to order)! Once settled, I sat with Claire, the owner of the salon, to see what I wanted done with my hair. Claire took several minutes with me before I had my hair washed with salon/​professional products and my head was thoroughly massaged through this washing. Next, with my tea waiting (just as I requested it), Claire began to work her magic. I received the best haircut that I have EVER gotten! She was able to make my dual textured (straight and wavey) hair look great! I have received many compliments on this cut and style. I look forward to referring friends to this fantastic and professional salon. I’m going back in the next few weeks to get the Coppola straightening. I can’t wait!

I was new to this area and went to the hair salon twice. I liked the creative hair design from the hair stylist called Steven. He did a good job on designing my hair and cutting it. The environment of the hair salon is def. better than most other salons, which justifies their premium. In general, it is a high end salon with great hair stylists and good environment. oh. one final word, Steven is also good at cutting asians’ hair, which is not common in most hair salons.

I have been going to Mayfair on the Hill since I first moved to Beacon Hill. There is such a warm and friendly environment, as well as talented stylists, that I’ve never felt the need to go anywhere else. Claire does my cut and color and she is as interesting as she is talented. The time flies by with great conversation, fabulous music, and artsy atmosphere. I recommend it highly.
