I’ll begin by saying that McGreevy’s isn’t the type of bar that I would usually frequent, but my undergrad alumni group meets here for our football watch parties so I’ve gone a few times over the last couple of years. My last visit though was truly horrible. We were in the downstairs bar and the a/c wasn’t working. All of us were sweating from the unbearable heat. Add to this the horrible sewage like odor coming from the bathroom and it was a rather hellish experience. Needless to say I didn’t feel up to drinking much that night. I had one beer downstairs and eventually attempted a second drink upstairs. The second drink was what led me to leave. I asked how old their vermouth was and they looked at me with a clueless expression. I asked to have a small taste of it so I could decide what drink I wanted. It was horrifically old and had gone bad. Vermouth is a fortified wine that is only good out of refrigeration for 24 hours. In the fridge it’s at its best for 7 days. This stuff was so disgusting that I can’t even begin to imagine how old it was. I understand a bar like McGreevy’s isn’t going to sell a lot of drinks with vermouth, but don’t stock it if you can’t keep it fresh. Old vermouth not only ruins the taste of drinks, but it’ll make one sick. I decided to go with a simple vodka rocks after that. Now about the previously mentioned smell. The sewage stench wasn’t only limited to the downstairs bathroom. It could be smelled in front of the back end of the upstairs bar too. It was utterly foul. I had a little less than half my second drink and began to feel sick. I decided to err on the side of caution and not finish it. I left shortly after that. First thing on Monday I reported McGreevy’s to the health department. I’ve had food poisoning so bad in the past that I was put in the hospital for a few days and almost admitted to the ICU so I take these things very seriously. I don’t know what came of my complaint, but I’d return here and strongly advice others to avoid it as well. I love the Dropkick Murphy’s, but just because you’re great at one thing and might enjoy drinking doesn’t mean you can own and run a bar. Additional information for underrepresented communities: *It should go without saying that this place is very white and very hetero. I don’t believe it’s disability accessible either. I «pass» as white, straight, and able bodied though I’m none of those things so while I’m always on the look out for a welcoming place for me and my communities and others I also understand that my experience in an establishment is very different then that of those that don’t «pass.» Surprisingly enough I haven’t seen anything here that has seemed too troublesome in terms of staff and guest behavior, but I don’t know how safe and comfortable I’d feel being here on a date with a woman nor can I imagine feeling safe and respected if I were more physically recognizable-not that anyone in the Northeast has a clue about us-as a Native woman.*

Checked this place out over this past weekend because of the positive reviews. The reviews were spot on! I’ve tried several bars in Boston while visiting the area to watch Boston sports teams at and this one takes the cake. The bar staff are friendly and welcoming. Iesha(spelling) was great to us and was very attentive. For the UFC fight there was a cover however, it was very reasonable. The place was packed to the brim so ensure you get there early for UFC fights. Sunday we watched the Pats Game and the atmosphere was perfect. They gave you confetti to throw to celebrate good plays which is hilarious ! The food is good too. We had burgers for dinner which tasted fresh. The fries were delicious as well. The beer was cold and they had several different types of liquors as well. Only negative(if you want to call it a negative) is the fried pickles were sweet pickles not dill which is just my personal preference so I didn’t care for them but they were made well. We come yearly to Boston and this bar. Is always going to be a stop of for years to come. Check them out you won’t regret it!

McGreevy’s is located a few blocks away from the Red Sox’s home, Fenway Park. Upon entry into the establishment it’s obvious that McGreevy’s is the Red Sox fan’s other other home. The pretzels are home made, the beer is served cold and sometimes the staff are attentive. Try to avoid sitting next to the door to the kitchen… I know sound advise for any restaurant, but more especially this one. The staff do not take caution when opening the door, knowing that there are customers directly outside. I WOULD recommend this establishment if you’re looking for a quick drink and appetizer before heading to the ball game.

Its hard to find much fault with any Irish Pub and that goes for McGreevy’s too. In town on business and popped in on a Tuesday night. Bruins were playing and the place was rocking with fans. Good bar, good beers, good atmosphere.

As an out of towner, I can say that this was one of the most fun sports bars that I’ve ever been too. My friend and I came here to watch Sunday night football, and we had a great time First, they give you confetti to throw whenever the Pats makes a play. Out of all the sports bars I’ve been to, this is the only sports bar to have something like this, so we’re already off to a good start! I am not a Pats fan(like I said, out of towner), but there’s no way I am turning down free confetti It does get pretty crowded, but they have a second bar in the back along with plenty of TVs and seats. Although I didn’t get any food that night, I did look around at what other people were getting, and it all looked pretty good. Service was quick, and the bartender was friendly. I thought the drink selection was pretty good. Not the BESTEVER, but it is certainly more than adequate. Overall it’s really a great place to be on a Sunday night Next time I’m in Boston, I am totally coming back here, and I highly recommend coming here. PS: the bartender in the back may offer you Guinness with vanilla vodka on top. ITS A TRAP, DONTDOIT

I love this place! Went here for lunch and the food was great, though the service was a bit slow. Also inquired about a private event here — the staff was SO nice, flexible, and accommodating, and the prices were remarkable for such a central location. Highly recommended.

Had I come here for food, or maybe beer or wine, I might have enjoyed McGreevy’s better. I came here with friends because we were looking for someplace for drinks before dinner, and I liked their cocktail/whisky/rye/bourbon list. The bourbon list, though small, is satisfying. A few weeks ago, when I was in Louisville, I attended a bourbon talk, and the speaker suggested that bourbon should be served with a small amount of ice because chilling enhances the complexity. It was tough to get the«just a little ice» request right with the waitress. What I did not appreciate, when given the bill, is that the price for all of the grain alcohols we consumed were typically $ 2 higher than on the menu. The explanation our waitress tried to explain(poorly) was that for these, an «extra pour» had been required. I see nothing about this on their menu, and I unfortunately didn’t have the time to get a better understanding of this policy from a bartender or manager, because we had to leave for a dinner reservation. So for me, this place blew their opportunity. If I want bourbon, I’ll go to Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar down the street. I also love the Pour House next door. Those are the places that will get my business. Not so much here. Or at least it has to be a much better experience.

The pub looks nice, with a bar area at the entrance and a dinning room just after it. I had two beers there, so I can’t give an accurate feedback. In the bar, tables and chairs are made of wood, and in the dinning room you can find more comfortable seats. They don’t have so many beers, but as an Irish bar they have Irish beers and other local beers. We entered the place and we seated, then a member of the staff came and gave the menu in order to choose the drinks and the food. My friends tried some spicy chicken, they said it was good but spicy and the two pints of beers I had were good too. In the bar there are a lot of TV screens with sports, but the noise level was good.

Great little sports bar located right in the heart of downtown Boston. This place is actually a perfect spot to stop on your way down to Fenway to catch a sox game. Yes, it does get pretty crowded, but if you make your way to the rear section, you’ll often find it less crowded and the folks are more friendly. The bartender in the back was tremendous and kept our glasses full for the duration of our visit. Solid 4 stars… Pros– Bartender Location Walk to Fenway Historical significance Great vibe Multiple bars Generous pours Cons– Crowded up front Rough getting drinks at night

We were probably 2 of about 6 people during lunch time on a weekday, but had a great lunch with quick service… and reasonably priced. Décor was pretty cool and it seemed like a great place for late night drinks, although we never got the chance. Maybe next time.

Great atmosphere any time you go. First off, the place is decorated head to toe(wall to ceiling?) with Red Sox memorabilia. And it’s not cheesy bar décor either. It is historical and appealing and gives the place a great vintage vibe. It’s so Boston. I went in on game day with a friend who was dressed to support the Red Sox’ opponent of the night(lord bless him) and everyone was still pretty friendly to him… Or at least they were not unfriendly so that I’d really got to know! I’ve been for drinks a few times and have always had great service. The bartenders were knowledgeable and quick and the servers were a big help since I couldn’t decide what beer to get. I got a Wachusett blueberry and my companion got Newburyport green head IPA. Both were very good and $ 5 each(for a can). If you’re in town, grab a drink at this iconic Boston location. It’s a great stop if you’re waking to Fenway from the Copley area.

This bar is definitely a place I want to come back and visit the next time I’m in town. Although we came here to watch the fight last week the overall experience at McGreevys was pretty good. We paid $ 25 for standing room only. We were right by the bar so I was able to get an elbow in there. We ordered the sliders and wings both were pretty good. Beer selection is pretty good. Bartenders were definitely on point during the crazy busy time. This place is definitely solid and will come back for another visit. Meet some locals, some people visiting overall everything was great. I really would like to see all their baseball memorabilia and take this«oldest sport bar».

SOLID. I’ve been coming to McGreevy’s more this past year because for some reason, my friends and I like to come here and do work. Yes, I know that’s really weird. we are the group that brings their notes to study or their laptops to work on projects during early evening hours before the crowd gets rowdy. We first started coming here when we found out they have free wifi, which is exactly what we needed to do our projects. + beer… = productive day right? They also have happy hour with half price apps every evening(I’d tell you the time, but I totally forgot :/) and 25 cent wings on Mondays from 4 – 11! BUTBEWARE. I am giving you a fair warning on their BBQ wings – way way too saucy. The wings were literally drowning in BBQ sauce it was hard to really enjoy them. My friend said the hot honey wasn’t too bad though, so it must just be the BBQ. Flatbreads alternate, so be sure to ask them what they have that day. They’re super thin crust, like crackers and they’re good to share. I also liked the short rib poutine and calamari, which are also on the appetizer menu. McGreevy’s always has weekly specials that they rotate and you can always find something on their chalkboard outside. Come here for bar food and drinks. And hey, maybe even to study! or not… we’re just weird

Being a newcomer to Boston, all that I can say is that few people know what hospitality actually means. Yet, I found it. The amazing young Mary, behind the bar, and Molly, out on the floor(or right next to me at that moment) were amazing. My love for sports dragged me in, and Mary kept me there. Hilarious stories and attentive service makes this my new hot spot. I may not work close, but I WILL go out of my way to come in from here on out to say hello and get a giggle out of Mary and Molly. Whether I was funny or not is besides the point. I cannot wait to return. I will certainly not hesitate to bring outta-towners here. The vintage baseball memorabilia is out of this world. Do yourself a favor and find Mary and Molly. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you ladies! Florida’s very own, Michael Jeff

Irish pub, «oldest sports bar in America», on Boylston, and partially owned by the Dropkick Murphy’s make this an automatic go-to bar. McGreevy’s has multiple big screened tvs, seets at the bars and high-top tables, and some excellent music(songs I haven’t heard in years, and sorely missed). The bartenders were friendly and provided quick service, the drinks were reasonably priced, and the crowd was an exclectic bunch(although on the younger end). They also had a cool downstairs bar in case the upstairs was too crowded. This was a great place to stop in and grab a few beers with friends.

+ super chill spot + Happy Hour $ 1 burgers CANNOTBEBEAT, good sized too! + full bar, anything to go with your food + friendly staff — not enough seats Came here on a Tuesday for some happy hour burgers that start at 7pm and it must be one of the BEST decisions. They’re bigger than your average sliders, kind of like a fancy McD cheeseburger, which is fine by me since even those are more than a $ 1! To add any of the fancy toppings like mushrooms or bell peppers etc is 25 cent and you can even add a patty for another $ 1 – WHAT A DEAL. Order a side of sweet potato fries and some beers for the table and your night is pretty much set. Just make sure if you’re a group bigger than 4 that you come a bit earlier to scout out one of the bigger tables otherwise there’s no way everyone gets a seat.

McGreevy’s, I knew you were trouble as soon as your bouncer took a look at my New York I.D. and gave it a dirty look. It’s all good, because you were only my back-up. We originally planned to go to Pourhouse, but as soon as we saw a long line outside, we just went next door. Who waits to get in a bar?! The first thing I’ve noticed about this place is that every wall and direction you’ll turn to, is plastered with Red Sox memorabilia on every corner you turn to. It is a damn Sox shrine. I didn’t think this bar belonged to a die-hard fan, until one of the regulars told me. And I really thought a friend of mine was too obsessed with the Mets. Anyway, I obviously tried to hide the fact that I’m a Yankees fan and tried so hard to not let it slip in a conversation, even though I was already 3 drinks down. Nothing really bad about this place, but I think the crowd is a little different from next door. Pourhouse seems more… fratty, and the guys here seem thirsty as hell. Needless to say, met a few interesting people. The bartender that made my drinks was amazing – I loved get bubbly attitude! Stayed here until we were kicked out for closing – at 2AM – which is usually the time I walk in a bar, back home. Lame, but that’s Boston.

I am so over dropping loads of cash on food and drink only to be treated like an unwelcome trespasser by over sized doormen with over inflated ego’s incredibly slow service(seems intentional) inappropriate staff(seemed like the staff was half in the bag themselves)
