As a huge ramen lover, I’ve been to most of the ramen places in Boston(Yume Wo Katare, Ganko, Snappy Ramen, Sapporo, Santouka etc) and Pikaichi is hands-down my favorite. Located in the Super 88 mall in Allston, this is a small unassuming ramen shop with not many seats, but the food is so worth it. The Pika Miso is the perfect pick-me-up for a cold rainy day, and I find myself craving it every couple of weeks during the fall/winter. The broth is rich and flavorful but not too fatty or greasy(my main complaint about the broths at Yume Wo Katare and Ganko) and the noodles are soft, chewy, and tender. Pikaichi also tends to give more noodles than other ramen places, and their bowls are cheaper as well. They give 3 slices of pork and some accompaniments(slice of seaweed, corn, pork mince) that add even more complexity of flavor to the already rich symphony of taste. I would definitely recommend either getting a half or whole egg — the extra charge is worth it — as the runny yolk adds a creaminess to the broth. I’ve tried their other broths as well but the miso remains my favorite. They also have a spicy version of the miso for those who like spicy broth. Overall, the best ramen shop in Boston!

Oh pikaichi. By far my favorite affordable ramen shop. Excellent and extremely fast service too. I always get the spicy miso ramen with half egg. The noodles and chewy the broth is spicy and flavorful and the chashu is tender. They give you a huge portion too so I always have leftovers to take home. It’s $ 8.75 for the spicy miso ramen and another $ 0.75 for the half egg which is decent. I’ve also gotten the octopus balls and chicken with spicy mayo that are awesome as apps. And there’s an option to add curry rice to the ramen for just $ 2.50. The katsu chicken is great too. Overall awesome place and I come here at least every few weeks.

I was wedged between 2 dudes at the bar for a bowl of Ramen. Not the most comfortable thing but hey, Ramen now(greater than) waiting forever for a table. I had the spicy miso ramen. I eat a lot of ramen… everywhere. Bay Area Ramen, New York Ramen, $ 0.25 Top Ramen– so I know my Ramen. Since Boston was cold, dark, and I had a long day of meetings, THISWASAMAZING. I know that my state of being at that moment made me vulnerable, but I can say it still would be as good under any other circumstances. Also I was really pleased that I could order half an egg… random small thing on the menu but it surprisingly made me really happy. You also get to watch a white guy yell a bunch of Japanese words. #lol

Small and cozy place right inside the super 88. There is a small parking lot next door but it’s for all the restaurants so can fill up easily. Plenty of street parking near by if that’s the case. We were seated quickly and served just a few minutes after we ordered. Both the spicy ramen and Tokyo ramen were delicious. Tender pork and plenty of noodles. We left full and happy. Looking forward to coming again or perhaps doing take out as we saw plenty of people coming in to pick up orders.

Pretty solid ramen place. I got the spicy miso ramen which was very flavorful. The noodles were chewy and the pork was tender. My girlfriend got the Tokyo ramen which has a soy sauce soup base which wasn’t bad, but we both thought mine was tastier. We also got the Tako balls to share. They were piping hot and had noticeable chunks of octopus in them. The staff is super attentive/friendly. As others have mentioned, it’s conveniently located next to an Asian supermarket in case you’re also looking to get some shopping done.

This place is so close to me it’s dangerous! Every time I come here, I get the spicy miso ramen. I always have a MAJOR craving for it when its raining and cold. And you must get a side order of the curry(it comes in a little bowl that is the perfect amount to share with a friend for a taste of curry). I think what I like the best about the ramen here is the noodles. The noodles are the perfect texture — not soft, but not hard. I think the portion size is pretty good, it’s pretty filling especially if you get a side order of the curry to share. I was bursting. But of course… being one that loves to eat. I have to get their tatsuta chicken appetizer. I usually get this appetizer when I come to pikaichi(I’ve had their takoyaki balls and I really didn’t like them. TOO much breading). The chicken is delicious, but I’ve definitely had better. The mayo sauce is meh. maybe too mayo-y for me. Overall, I really like their ramen and how quick they are with the food. Makes you feel like you are actually at a ramen place in Japan because of how friendly the staff is. They greet you right when you come in with a Japanese«hello»(I think they are saying that at least.) and are attentive to what you need. It gets pretty busy especially if you come on a busy night, but I’ve came during the weekday and it wasn’t crazy — so I would recommend going then if you don’t want to wait in a huge line… especially since the place is TINY.

Got the spicy miso ramen and added a whole egg to-go. It was delicious and I will do it again. If time permits, I would like to experience dining in. When my roommate and I went to pick up our order, I saw the interior is really small and almost crammed. Located inside Super 88(supermarket). The ramen is the best I’ve had in Boston so far so I will be back. They have curry rice plates that look delightful, too.

If this is considered one of the best ramen places in Boston, Boston does not know what good ramen means. My boyfriend and I came in around 11:45AM on a Saturday and were promptly seated. The restaurant has about nine tables for two and a small bar. They push tables together at your convenience for larger parties and the place does fill up quickly so plan accordingly. I ordered the shoyu ramen and my boyfriend ordered the shio ramen. We also got an order of the tatsuta(fried boneless chicken pieces with spicy mayo on the side). The tatsuta was fine, but the texture of the chicken was a bit weird. Weird to the point where my boyfriend didn’t think the piece of chicken he ate was chicken. The sauce on the side is good though, and I just like deep fried chicken in general. My biggest gripe with the ramen at pikaichi is that it doesn’t come with an egg. I don’t care if I can add it as an extra, I have never been to a ramen joint that does not provide an egg with the ramen. Hell, I don’t even like the egg that much, I’m just upset that there isn’t one. The broth was not overly oily or buttery like it is at Ippudo in New York, which I did appreciate. I did think the broth in my shoyu ramen was a bit on the saltier side though. The meat wasn’t very good as it was slightly dry and not very well seasoned. I will say that the portion was large and filling though, and we were quite full after splitting an accidental kae-dama(extra noodles) between the two of us. I’m just… really not impressed in any capacity with Pikaichi. I was expecting NYC Totto Ramen level ramen, so maybe that was my downfall. If only the Boston Totto Ramen weren’t awful…

Finally found a ramen place! So excited that not only did I find Pikaichi, but also an entire market full of Asian food vendors! I spent 4 years in Orange County and was spoiled by all the Asian food goodness, so happy to have found this authentic establishment. Be ready to wait for at least 15 – 20 minutes or even longer if you are with a large group. This location is extremely tiny but its worth the wait though! My friend and I had very high expectations because OC set the standard so far, but it was pretty darn good. We both had the spicy miso soup, extra spicy. We prefer our noodles more on the soft side, but I guess next time we will just let them know when they take our order. For New England ramen, it definitely has a high rating in my book. I will continue to come here during my time in Boston!

I came here around 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon with my sister, and because of the weird time, there was no wait. We weren’t particularly hungry, so we ordered a miso ramen to share and a shrimp shumai appetizer. The miso ramen is supposedly one of the most popular options. The soup was flavorful and salty. The noodles were wavy, chewy, medium thickness, and absorbed the broth quite well. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pork, which was a bit too lean and rough in my opinion. I generally prefer thick tonkotsu broths, so this ramen just didn’t hit the spot for me. I’ve also been spoiled by the many ramen options in NYC, so pikaichi just seemed average in comparison. My sister though really enjoyed the ramen! The shumai was very yummy, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I wished it came out warmer and more steamy though. The service was great! Very efficient for a quick meal, and the waitress was super smiley and friendly. Also, paying less than $ 10 for a huge bowl of ramen is pretty great. Tldr: not the most mind blowing ramen for me, but I’ll come back if I ever have a craving.

Pikaichi(affectionately referred to as Pikachu) is a small full service ramen restaurant located just outside the Super 88(or is it now the Hong Kong Supermarket?) food court, just by the entrance to the market. Perhaps eight small tables line either side, which are easily pushed together for larger parties, and some counter seating deeper in. Service was friendly and quick enough. We shared a side order of the Tatsuta $ 5.99(5 pieces of boneless fried chicken with chili mayo) which was tender and tasty, but had none of the expected crispness from the fry job. For my dinner, I selected the Pika Miso Ramen $ 8.49(homemade Pikaichi miso flavored ramen served with 6 oz custom made noodles, topped with tender sliced pork, nori, ground pork, corn & scallions, and made it a combo with the addition of a small curry rice for $ 2.49(regular price being $ 3.99). The ramen was pretty good. Although the sliced pork looked a bit dry, after a dunk in the soup, I found it satisfactory. The curry rice was tasty; the leftover made for a good base for another day’s lunch. For future visits, I’m interested in trying the Yuzu Shio Ramen $ 8.49, Sauce Katsu Don $ 7.49(pork cutlet rice), Fried Tako Ball $ 5.49, or Pikaichi Salad $ 5.99(fresh tofu, mixed seaweed, scallions, corn and fresh spring mix with Pikaichi’s homemade ginger dressing).

After reading some of the reviews, I was expecting amazing, but Id say overall my experience was just good. Staff was very friendly, although they seemed confused when we had questions about the differences between the ramen dishes, and just sorta read the menu to us as if that explained everything. The restaurant was very small, not too busy when we went but I could see waiting could get frustrating for some people during peak hours. The ramen itself was good, the portions are definitely big and will fill you up! Noodles were cooked well, and the broth was good but not great, it lacked in its full flavor potential. Great job at refilling waters, especially for my friend who got the spicy ramen and was constantly going back for sips! Awesome location in the food court, got delicious bubble tea after, I would come again!

After trying ramen here for the second time, I must say Santouka is still the best for flavor and their char-siu. Portion wise, however, Pikaichi beats out Santouka. Another bonus is that corn is included in Pikaichi’s ramen without additional charge. We tried the pika miso ramen and spicy miso ramen. I wasn’t impressed with the spicy miso ramen. It tasted sour with a spicy aftertaste. The broth was also watery and lacking other flavors. The pika miso ramen tasted better. The server told me the pika miso broth would be thicker, but it wasn’t that much thicker than the broth in spicy miso. Their char-siu was a bit dry with very, very minimal fat(that’s the good stuff, right?). The tatsuta chicken was a disappointment — thin and flat white chicken pieces with chili mayo. I definitely wouldn’t get it again. The service was quick and our waiter was extremely attentive. It was a slow afternoon when we went, so it wasn’t packed. Yet, no one took advantage to slack off. Good job!

They werent kiddin when they said its a big portion! Found this place from blogs and Unilocal and its is LITERALLY tucked away and hidden from main street… its next to the supermarket Got seated pretty quickly at the bar and as always, i opted for the spicy ramen which was the jigoku ramen and i opted for the char siu side rice. ive done it again… i over ordered =(…the rice came first and it was okay… nothing too fancy… good way to calm the belly while it waited for the main star! MYRAMEN it definitely looks spicy than it really is but i will admit. it did kick me a little in the beginning… but i TAMED you jigoku… i do not fear you at all. My friends said it was pretty spicy so for those who dont generally eat too spicy. you have been warned. The noodles were al dente… not too soggy or undercooked. The broth was rich and almost creammy… almost…the only complaint i have is the chunks of pork… i wish it was sliced for easier eat but thats my preference. The price range was great for the size and it looks like a lot of younger generation(youngER.cause im not that old) frequent the place so it must be cheap eats and near a college spot

I want to start off by saying the service here is outstanding. We were greeted in Japanese and served by the nicest waiter ever. He was extremely helpful in helping us pick out our dishes since it was our first time. I went with the Spicy Miso Ramen. Great flavors with just enough spiciness. The portion was huge and filling. I’d say my rating is more of a 4 ½. I’m taking a half star off because it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. I actually prefer phở over ramen. The restaurant itself was tiny. But I can def picture myself coming back one day.
