I’ve only eaten here twice in 5 years but we will be going here more and more when we want a nice steak or surf and turf dinner. Staff are well educated on wines, they have a nice selection, great steaks and nice atmosphere. We ordered NY strip with added jumbo shrimp, green beans and sweet potato fries– everything was perfectly cooked esp shrimp and green beans. Husband got rib eye that was cooked just how he ordered it(med rare). He did say the beer tastes like fat tire which I think was not a compliment but he ordered two so couldn’t have been too bad. Looking forward to eating here again.

Looking for a good steak and a nice atmosphere? While in Colorado with my family, the cry went out for surf and turf — imagine that! We found our way to the Chophouse & Tavern, they had a nice wide selection on the menu, prices were fair, and service was good(Katie). The Chophouse and Tavern is located just a block away from the Pearl Street mall. Easily in walking distance. The dress attire can rang from nice to casual weekend tourist. I tried their Chophouse Manhattan. It was a blackberry laced bourbon with vermouth and it was just Okay, I went back to beer after that. They have a good beer list. I enjoyed two bourbon stout beers, A+. They have a large menu with all of the typical steak house options. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese and a spinach artichoke dip. Both appetizers were delicious and devoured quickly by our party. The waitress brought us some of the jalapeño corn bread, which I enjoyed, the kids were not fans. I enjoyed the Crab Cakes with a white cheddar mashed potatoes as my main course. The potatoes were fluffy and creamy with a subtle cheddar flavor. The crab cakes were cooked properly throughout, which can be a challenge, and they were well flavored. My wife and kids built their own lobster tail & top sirloin meddle, which they devoured, it was akin to a last meal on earth. The atmosphere was loud, a lot of USC Trojan fans(us included) having too much fun. Another call out to our server, Katie, she did a great job!!!

I had a fantastic experience last time we ate at Boulder Chop House. The atmosphere was great– very classy with soft jazz music and nice lighting. Our server Sean provided perhaps the best service I have ever had in a restaurant. I had the sirloin, and it was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. This was my second visit since I moved to town a few weeks ago as it is so good. I will certainly be back again soon!

Went last night. It was disappointing. Two of us ordered the bone-in ribeye for $ 34.95. We each ordered them med-rare and they arrived med-well at least. If they want to be a steak house… cook them right. They would have been sent back to the kitchen any other time but I was with my nephew and his girlfriend and let it pass. I wouldn’t go back, there are too many good alternatives in Boulder.

I was so excited when work sent me back to Boulder cause that meant coming back here for the best steak ever. Unfortunately, my repeat visit was nowhere near as good. The steak was cooked unevenly so it was tough on the top and rare on the bottom. Surprisingly, the star of the evening was the sweet potato fries; a hint of salt added some amazing flavor I’d never had before. Im disappointed. I was really looking forward to a fantastic steak.

Nice atmosphere. Felt like the waiter was hovering a bit too much. I am certain that he forgot our salad orders because he informed us that our orders would be right out but we hadn’t received our salads yet. Our salads came then immediately afterward our entrees. Had to rush through the salads so the steaks didn’t get cold. Steaks were excellent. One of the best I’ve ever had. Cooked perfectly. It wasn’t cheap but worth it.

Classy atmosphere. Casual dress is fine. Jazz type music in background. Very nice bonein ribeye cooked perfectly to medium rare. Tasty cheddar mashed potatoes and cornbread. The homemade rootbeer is great too. What a great meal. Had a great waiter. Just an overall good meal in a relaxing atmosphere.

(I went to this place in 2013… perhaps it has changed.) Worst place I’ve ever gone and spent $ 100 on dinner for two. It was absurdly overpriced for rather poor steak, poor seating, poor attitudes, etc. This really did finally convince it that it will be impossible to find a good steakhouse in Colorado.

Excellent service at the bar with Gabriel. The guy was on it. Quick and friendly. He seemed to love the place and made it seem even more special to us. Good selection of beers on tap. Cool L-shaped restaurant makes for some nice private areas for couples. Food cooked nicely, some creative options on the menu.

Great steak, great appetizer, great wine and bourbon lists, great atmosphere. Only complaint is I felt like our service was a little subpar. We had our five month old with us. We were sat in a back room with a bunch of people dressed in t-shirts and other inappropriate clothes for this type of restaurant. I was sympathetic to them seating us back there, but got the impression that we were given lesser service as a result. The server’s heart just wasn’t in it. It wasn’t the type of service I’m used to at places like this. So, seat us in the back — I understand, but treat us as well as anybody else, please.

Excellent beer, fantastic meal, and superior service. Try the citrus salmon, you will not be disappointed. The waiter also made a great beer recommendation to go along with it.

Went to the Boulder location for Restaurant Week on Friday night and I must say, the service was outstanding. I ordered the fish and wished I would have gone with chicken. It came out overcooked and extremely dry. I didn’t say anything(should have but I was with new friends and didn’t want to complain). The bread was good, the tuna starter needed more flavor(so we asked for soy sauce) and the desert was mediocre. We have eaten at the Denver Chop House several times and have always been super happy and satisfied with the food but this time, it was a bit of a let down.

So I’ve been to Chop House a couple times. The first time was for my girlfriends 25th birthday, in which I flew her mom in from the east coast to surprise her. The staff was super helpful and happy to hear my plan. The food was decent for the money, I mean we ended up spending $ 100 per person, and only had cocktails, not wine. For some reason I don’t remember what my main course was, but I dream about that Caesar salad. It was just perfect, not overly dressed romaine, nice large crunchy croutons and some shaved parm on top. So, it was a great night, kinda like a hard to screw up kind of night. We decided to go back this weekend for their happy hour. I don’t know if it’s always crazy packed or if it was homecoming weekend and filled with old buffs. We had a reservation, but those don’t work for happy hour… So we muddle around for a bit, waiting for an open seat to come available, after 10 minutes we snagged 2 seats for our party of 3. As we stood/sat there looking over the menu, it became apparent that the gluten free options(for our celiac friend, not us being trendy gluten free boulder-ites) were nil, unless you want to have a happy hour giant salad. With that being said we left, no food, no drinks, just sad and wanting them to come up with some new gluten free ideas.

Sadly Sub-par Steaks. How does a steakhouse mess up steaks? Ate here a couple of weekends ago, table of four on a Saturday night. Three of us ordered steaks, one ordered fish. The fish contained a lot of bones and even part of the spinal column. Every single one of our steaks was overcooked. I ordered medium-rare and it was barely pink in the center. Very disappointing. When a steakhouse messes up steak, it’s time to close up shop. The $ 6.50 asparagus side tasted like it was cooked in a microwave and sprinkled with morton’s table salt. My mashed potatoes had lumps, were bland, and tasted instant. I will never go back.

Looking for a good steak and a nice atmosphere? This is your place. They had a nice wide selection on the menu, prices were fair, and service was good. The Chophouse and Tavern is located just a block away from the Pearl Street mall. Easily in walking distance. We were all dressed casual in shorts and t shirts or polo style shirts. I did not feel under dressed by any means. We sat on the patio so I cant really speak to the ambiance inside the restaurant. We came here for my mom’s 60th birthday. Her request was a place with a nice patio. I scoured the internet and landed on Boulder Chophouse and Tavern. I made a reservation a night before for the patio due to the fact there would be 12 of us. The hostess told me it would be no problem and indeed it was not a problem. The day of I brought a special order cake to the restaurant early. The hostess took it from me and kept it refrigerated until it was our desert time without hassle. We arrived at 6pm for our reservation and the hostess quickly sat us on the patio. Several tables were pushed together and the menus and place settings were already on the table. The patio is kind of nestled in between two taller buildings keeping us out of the evening sun which was welcome on such a hot day. There are several umbrellas on the patio and easily moved if the sun became a bother. The busboy came out quickly and got us settled with waters and the waiter was quickly out to take drink orders. I tried their Chophouse Manhattan. It was a blackberry laced bourbon with vermouth and it was average. Nothing really to write home about. I went back to my go to jack and coke after the first one. They have a large menu with all of the typical steak house options. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese and a spinach artichoke dip. Both appetizers were delicious and devoured quickly by our party. The waiter brought us some of the jalapeño corn bread. It was a little dry and honestly a little mediocre for cornbread. Nothing special to write home about here. I enjoyed the seared ahi tuna with a white cheddar mashed potatoes as my main course. The potatoes were fluffy and creamy with a subtle cheddar flavor. The seared ahi was cooked properly and well flavored. I enjoyed the sauce it was dressed with although I cant recall exactly what it was. My wife wanted pork chops(one of her favorite) but the waiter stated they weren’t serving this tonight due to a pork loin special that evening. She decided on the lamb chops instead and her review was«They are to die for. I was looking for more meat to pick off the bone.» Pretty good review if you ask me, and she didn’t even offer me a bite which always mean she liked it a lot. The waiter handled a large party very well. He was attentive, got our orders right, and was friendly. He graciously took a candle i bought and placed it on the cake prior to bringing it out. They did not even charge us a plating fee for the cake which was a very nice surprise. My mom is very hard to please and was happy with the outcome of her 60th birthday party and told me I picked a great spot. If she was happy it was good. Like I said I can’t speak to the inside atmosphere but enjoying a meal on the patio was relaxing and highly enjoyable with the cool night air. The waiter nailed serving a large party. I did not observe any of the issues noted in other reviews. For this reason I would recommend the Boulder Chophouse and Tavern as they made my mom’s night special and provided a nice dining experience at a fair value.

This was the first time for me at the Chophouse. My brother told us about the great 4 – 6 pm daily happy hour. What makes happy hour so great is they have a totally separate menu with all drinks, apps, and an entrée menu. Yes, entrees on a happy hour menu! Prime Rib is $ 10. I loved the atmosphere in there. They have an interesting, kind of jazzy vibe going on in there. Their craft beers were great. I think many were German style lagers. I had an IPL which was quite smooth with a citrus tone. The only negative here was the serving utensils, glassware, and plates were not cleaned very well in their dishwasher. They all had a lot of dried food residue on them. I had to send back my glass of water because the glass had dried food on it. I also noticed dried food on the silverware. Seems they need to get their dishwasher serviced. Hopefully, the next time I go back, it won’t be a problem.

I usually have a great time here as the atmosphere is loose, loud and rowdy. You can hang at the bar or get a table in the back for 10 of your friends. The steak here is expertly cooked medium rare and of fine quality. The service is exceptional during my visits and the prime rib during happy hour is unbeatable in Boulder.

High hopes. Dashed expectations. The Chophouse is one of those places that tries to appear upscale, but isn’t really much better than an Applebee’s. Yup. That’s right. I said it.(And I can’t stand Applebee’s.) I’ll start with the good. Chophouse has its own line of beer. We tried several of the different types, and they were all quite good. Surprisingly good. The beers were the first things we tasted at the place. From there, the experience rapidly slid downward. Okay. Here’s the question. Why can so very few restaurants these days serve an appetizer BEFORE the main courses??? Why, oh why, oh why? We ordered steak egg rolls to start, and then a sirloin and a burger as the mains. And we SPECIFICALLY asked the server to ensure that the app came out first. Guess what? Everything came out at the same time. When we mentioned that to the server, she said, oh, I tried to hold back the mains. ??? I don’t even know what that means. Unbelievable. Even Applebee’s knows how to serve an app FIRST. If Chophouse can’t manage to figure out one of the most basic elements of food service, then it really is a complete poseur. No fine dining here. Just the fake semblance of upscale. As for the food, the steak egg rolls were not good. Filled with horrendously overcooked and tasteless chopped meat.(I know a restaurant wants to use its leftovers in creative ways, but there is no rule that says these ways can’t taste good.) The egg rolls came with a weird, sweet dipping sauce that had a thick, dried film on the surface. Scary. Sweetie asked that his sirloin be cooked medium rare. It came out well done. Not a hint o’ pink. And the steak was room temperature. And the meat was poor quality– tough and tasteless. Not good at all. My burger came out medium rare as requested, and actually tasted decent. It was the only acceptable part of the meal. But, of course, the accompanying fries were cold. Must say, we have no reason whatsoever to ever return. And, with the many good restaurants within walking distance of the place, I would highly encourage people to skip Chophouse for somewhere far better.

Great service, nice place. It’s located across from the St. Julien where we stayed, and capped off a wonderful experience in Boulder. We split the porterhouse with veggies and mashed potatoes. The drinks were delicious and topped off the meal nicely. Steak was cooked to perfection, though it was a bit — a TAD bit — sinewy. For that, the loss of a star. Other than that, it was exceptional. We will definitely be back!
