As a rider of the 714 bus over the years, JBL in general provides a good service with their commuter bus that runs through the beach town of Hull. Runs hourly from 5am til a last run out of Pemberton Point at 8pm., The concept of the service is great since many of us who live in Hull and work in Boston use public transportation with a combination of bus and boat to get where we need to be, but as with anything– employees can make or break any company. The morning driver Gene is professional, personable, reliable and seems to take a genuine interest in his passengers– always an enjoyable, stress/hassle-free bus ride, so thanks. Unfortunately the current afternoon driver, Tom, provides anything but a stress free service. I write this in this forum only because I have called the management office 8 times to complain and receive a callback, but to no avail. There’s only 1 bus service and in such an outlying community, this bus is the only option to transfer to public Boston commuter transportation, so I, like many others have come to accept a lot in terms of variance in service and accept as part of our experience. But I have drastically adjusted my commuter schedule to avoid this afternoon driver at all costs. Why? Rude, disrespectful, vindictive, sarcastic– but worst and what is unacceptable is his failure to perform his job. He is often lazy(not driving all the way to a stop if he can see no one is waiting there and taking a short cut happens and has been witnessed by this reviewer on a regular basis.) Leaving early on the Hingham to Hull run that leaves on the half hour is just another example of this driver not performing his job function(which in effect strands commuting patrons for an extra hour). Purposefully driving by patrons even when they have clearly signaled to be picked up– experienced by this reviewer when he drove by, acknowledged me with a look and then with a hand wave as he sped past. The only redeeming factors: the am driver and the fact that if you buy a weekly or a monthly pass it is FREE(but the afternoon driver will HASSLE you to verify it is good even when the 40 point font clearly shows it is and you use a pass on a regular basis.) No other option, so will have to deal with this when I choose to take this form of transportation, but I wish the management would take the issues seriously.
