This a follow up of Kang’s Taekwondo Academy back on May. After my complaint Mr Kang decide to prohibit my Family to continue to go his location in Brentwood. This only because we respectfully asked in more than 2 times to cancel the membership a month early because we are moving to Pleasant Hill. Even his own policy says that if we move 25 miles o more we can cancel. Not only he refuses let our Family back to his location he went ahead and continue to charge fees every month. The owner is abusive, disrespectful and the only thing he cares is money, money, money. I will be very careful to put your kids in Kankg academy.

If you are in search of a Taekwondo school for your child or yo urself I highly recommend Kang’s Taekwondo Academy as it is a positive and a life changing experience you will never regret. Kang’s Academy develops the whole person both the physical and mental. I am proof! I have been a student at Kangs’s Taekwondo Academy for over 7 years. When I first started at Kang’s I was extremely sick, severely overmedicated, overweight and my confidence was exteremely low to the point that I was too afraid to do classes. Kwan Jang Nim Kang patience with me and instilled in me that I COULDDOIT! When I was so sick their encouragement that I COULDDOIT is what got me through it and essentially SAVEDMYLIFE and I will be forever grateful for this gift. At Kang’s you will develop Taekwondo skills at your or your child’s pace… they are NOT black belt puppy mill that cranks out the Black Belts — you acheive the belt when you have developed the necessary skills. They have an incredible group of Masters and Instructors that work with every student to be the best they can be at the right pace for each student as everyone is different. If you want a black belt just to say you are a black belt don’t go here because that not what Kang’s is about. At Kang’s you are developing Taekwondo skills to be utilize for the rest of your life it’s not a race it is a journey. If you want your child or yourself to develop/improve on life/mental skills and be great at Taekwondo in a supportive and fun environment Kang’s Academy is the place. You will learn sparring, self-defense, do fantastic conditioning, improve life skills yes even me as adult I’ve improved on my patience, stress level and confidence. You will develop the physical skills and the mental fortitude to make you a great Taekwondo student and all around better person. If you are wondering yes, I was a gym rat at a high end gym… the elipitical machine or a spin class was my exercise of choice. I would do an hour+ on the machine/class daily no problem but I didn’t lose the weight and my health didn’t improve until I started at Kang’s then I got my health and confidence back. I’ve lost 7+ inches from my waist. I am stronger than I’ve ever been– I now love situps and pushups(crazy right), my confidence has soared and I’ve developed awesome taekwondo skills. I have a great group of friends from the Dojang. Friendships are developed at Kang’s that go beyond the walls of the Dojang. Senior students are always encouraging and supportive of junior students. As I said in the beginning, you will develop not only the technical/physical skills of Taekwondo but the mental skills whether its improved confidence, listening, self-control or patience. If you are considering Taekwondo, I highly recommend Kang’s as it was life changing for me and if you asked the kids at the school you will hear the same. So come check Kang’s Taekwondo Academy!

I totally agree with the comments… Kang’s Taekwondo Academy is a rip off. I was not able to attend due to having a stroke and high blood pressure. I called their company several times to report this issue and even provided a doctors note which I presented to their son. I did not receive a call back until I left a voicemail stating that I would be placing a dispute with my credit card company. In my opinion… these people or not ethical. I’d suggest you find another place to go to that will treat you with respect.

Really bad experience. My child attended the academy for three years. We loved it. I loved everything they were teaching these children. The instructor at the time was great also. Things did not end well after my child was injured and broke her wrist. She was scared to go back and she would cry herself to sleep. I explained this to the owner and he said he required a drs note. This is when I realized he wasn’t doing anything in the child’s best interest. We then provided that and he continued to charge me after my child was no longer attending. He promised to refund my money and never did. He avoided my calls and emails. I had to cancel all the cards he had information on because he didn’t stop charging me after we were no longer there.

ITSEEMSGREAT, BUTITISFARFROMANYTHINGBUT. WORSTACADEMYAROUND. Mr Kang is all about 1. Dollars and for you to sign a ¾ contract. Parents do not sign a ¾ contract.2.There is no Honesty, Respect, Integrity from Mr Kang he just wants respect but doesn’t like to give it in return.3.The quality of training for Sparring is not there.4.Students that have tested for Black Belt test the fee of $ 750 is a complete RIPOFF it should be about $ 250-$ 350 no more than that.5.Once you test for Black Belt Test you should get your Black Belt Certification from KUKKIWON from Korea in about 90 days or so with out this Certification your black belt means nothing, i know this because a few students who tested 1 years ago have not gotten there certificates, so 1 student left for another Academy RETESTED90 days or so GOTTHERECERTIFICATE from KUKKIWON. I guess Kangs is doing something not right. Parents where ever you go you shouldn’t have to sign a ¾ year contract simple as that. Bottom line we had been there at Kangs for 3 years and a 10+ students just recently left for another Academy. Everything seemed great at the start i guess as you get in deeper this Academy is plain and simple about $$$$$$$$$$ thats all.$ 250 a month fee. Parents do your own research on Black Belt testing fees and there should be no ¾ year contracts 1 year is fine, The word for this type of Academy is McDOJO all about the money.6.Sparring quality is not there, i mean its just not there, we are now at another Academy and i have learned more in 5 mins than i did in 3 years at Kangs.7.It seemed like a great Academy but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise i am so thank full we found out so much unethical practices about this Academy that along with many students who recently left we are at a much better Academy. The only one positive we got was our child gained confidence thats all.8.My friends child for some reason didn’t want to black test recently, Mr Kang basically told the parent get your kid out of my academy after years of hard work just like that, very disrespectful, but i guess it was ok to take there money for 4 years? Final note do your research before joining anything i found out the hard way but i also count our selfs lucky and most of all we are at a much Better and honest Academy now.9.TAKE A LOOKATTHE«CALIFORNIAHEALTHSTUDIOSERVICESCONTRACTLAW»

I thought the family was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about this discipline. My only gripe was the cost. At $ 200 a month I wasn’t thrilled about missing a class due to my work schedule or just plain forgetting to go. Also, my child wasn’t practicing outside of class. That’s what happened to us and, as a result, I decided we weren’t serious enough to pay this much money. For $ 100/month I wouldn’t mind, but at that cost… each week is around $ 50 so I can’t miss any classes. Too bad really cause I loved that the owner’s older kids took the young kids aside and taught them the moves individually. Great teaching model and their kids are very patient and sweet. I hope they are successful despite the price. Good luck Kang’s!
