I got off work craving seafood something fierce, but I had no desire to drive far to get it and I have to clean the house. I decided to try Maryland Seafood & Crab in the Port Town Shopping Center on Bladensburg Rd. Its the plaza with the IHOP in it. I called ahead and, having not seen the menu, asked it they had a platter that included a crab cake and fish. To my immediate pleasure they told me they had a combo with a crab cake, 3 fried shrimp, three scallops and a piece of fish(I chose whiting) for $ 10.99! They promised 10 minutes and it would be ready. When I got there it my food was bagged and waiting. I was in and out in a jiffy. When I got home to explore the contents of my foam food container, I was underwhelmed. The shrimp was fried so hard it might as well have been jerky, the fish, though well seasoned, was fried too soft, my crab cake was full of minced meat, had a grayish/brown tint and as overly spiced– and what was that aftertaste… of yeah OLDCRABMEAT. And the worst, of the worst part was that my scallops were fake! Through the fried coating you could make out the imprint from the pressing machine that had made them. I am thoroughly disappointed, but I can’t lie… I am so hungry, II ate most of it anyway, even the nasty heat-lamp withered, old crinkle cut french fries. One last insult– the hot sauce has clearly been diluted, my portion, in a capped plastic container looks like orangish-red water. Bottom line, avoid this place unless you’re starving. Next time I will suck it up and drive the extra mile to Calvert House on Baltimore Ave.
