I ordered a lot and all of it was either flavorless or lacked the proper proportions of fish to other ingredients. One or the other was overpowering in each roll. The sushi itself didn’t taste super fresh and the wasabi and ginger were the cheapest restaurant depot crap. Literally had zero flavor. It seemed as if the rolls were just hastily thrown together. I could make a better roll. The spicy rolls just had some mayonnaise that didn’t even seem spicy. In addition, the mayo was just thrown in between the other ingredients. It wasn’t even mixed in so it was evenly distributed. The rice wasn’t great either. The price was average for sushi but overpriced based on this reviewers food.

I ordered Hoshi Ya through Unilocal last night! While the delivery details stated that it would take 45 – 60 minutes to arrive, it actually got to my apartment within 25 minutes of ordering! While I have not actually been to the restaurant, I decided to give Hoshi Ya 4(or even 4.5) stars because of the efficiency and the quality of the food. I ordered an avocado maki($ 3.50), avo kyu maki($ 3.95, avocado and cucumber), and idaho maki($ 3.95, fried sweet potato). They were all very delicious; I especially enjoyed the idaho roll, which was warm and crunchy. The only negative is the fact that there is a $ 10 minimum for delivery; I was forced(oh woe is me) to get three maki rolls instead of the two I was originally planning on getting. But hey, I have a delicious lunch waiting for me today, so I ain’t mad about it.

They’re open until 2am! Very good for late night sushi to-go, especially the cash deals. I usually get the black widow and the crazy maki as a cash deal combo, which is an excellent price for the sushi. Not authentic sushi by any means — the sushi chefs gossip about their girlfriends in Mandarin — but it’s rare to find authentic sushi shops in Boston anyway. The black caterpillar maki is maximally satisfying, and I’ll return again and again in the future. Took away another star because the miso soup is lacking and even though it’s free, the taste just makes me sad.

Extremely reliable and quality food. This is the type of restaurant I would choose even when there are more convenient options. Nonetheless I’ve been extremely satisfied every time!

Very unsure how this place got 4 stars, but maybe their food is better when it’s not delivered at 12:30am? Anyway, it’s 11:45 at night and I’m hungry and unwilling to go outside and crawl through Allston so I decide to order delivery. I decided to give this place a try since it had so many good reviews, but alas, I was disappointed. I ordered the spicy tuna maki, negi-hama maki, tekyu maki, volcano maki, snow crab maki and got free edamame since my order. Best part of this meal was the free edamame. The quality of the raw fish in the negi-hama(yellow tail) and the tekyu maki(tuna) was just bad. The snowcrab maki was also flavorless and soggy. The real wins were with the volcano and the spicy tuna, since those actually had some flavor. The overall consistency of the rice was weird as well as the temperature of each roll. Highly recommend grocery store sushi over this place, but what can you expect at midnight on a Friday night? Not worth my $ 30.

One of my favorite places to get sushi. The food is so fresh and delicious, each and every time! So worth the drive for the price!

No. After years of being a loyal Unilocal user the current review has shaken my entire faith in the site. A 4 star review for this place is laughable. The food I received was not good and something I could have gotten from a supermarket. I will use grub hub for reviews and delivery from now on.

One of my top 3 spots to get sushi. Always fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The delivery service is quick and very polite. They are also open quite late so if you are craving sushi at 1am Hoshi ya is there for you.

Just ordered the Chirashi entrée, not bad, I was kinda suprised by the full sashimi style pieces of sashimi.(I am used to having a chirashi with alot of little pieces of sashimi to mix in with the rice) However, it is pretty good amount-wise with sashimi and I did not expect a piece of tamago to be included(kinda happy about this), especially for later at night. I will definitely hit this place up if I were ordering sushi delivery late at night.

This place is a hidden gem. It’s one of those tiny hole is the walls with only about 6 – 8 seats and my gosh it’s delicious. The ingredients are so fresh and the sushi is one of the best I’ve had in Boston.

What’s wrong with sh*tty tempura? Well, I wouldn’t have been able to tell you until tonight. After taking Hoshi Ya’s crash course on «What Overfried Tempura Tastes Like In Your Mouth» I’ve come back reborn as an expert, so heed my warning: don’t order from there unless you have no other choice. I mean, definitely choose this place over Trader Joe’s sushi. But you know, if you have any option whatsoever, my money’s on the alternative. I ordered a variety of maki: — Idaho Maki Comes with a very generous lump of partly raw sweet potato. If you eat with your eyes, you’ll be very happy because there’s some pretty big chunks of sweet potato in there. But if you if eat with your mouth, as I’m sure 99% of humans do, you’ll quickly learn that looks are deceiving. Felt like I was biting into a soggy rock. — Caterpillar Maki Sure did taste like a mushy caterpillar in my mouth. — Spicy Salmon Maki It was alright, the maki was too warm when it arrived and the flavor of the salmon was lost, so it just felt like I had a lukewarm piece of something chewy and slimy in my mouth. — Brighton Maki Ummm, not sure what they were going for but if someone ever makes a Wikipedia entry for«Sh*tty tempura» then please make sure to have an image of this on the headline. And a kitchen dish: — Nabeyaki Udon Somehow, my Nabeyaki Udon was colder than my spicy salmon maki. I think it might’ve tasted better if I ate at their restaurant. Maybe the delivery time warmed up the sushi too much and cooled down the udon… Whatever the reasons, stay away from delivery.

Ordered late night sushi from here through Eat24, and it was quite excellent: fresh fish, well made rolls, and the nigiri pieces in my combo were perfectly sized and seasoned. Even the miso soup was good. Minus one star because the delivery took a little over the quoted 60 minutes(which is a preettty long time to begin with) and because these places need to stop thinking it’s okay to charge a $ 2 fee for delivery. Not sure if there is the same charge for call-in orders. Next time I’ll call, and hopefully try the $ 10 cash deal.

After consuming a lot of sushi over 5 years in Boston, I would rate Hoshi-YA the best for quick sushi. The quality is excellent, and the fish tastes extremely fresh. Their rolls often exceed others from fancier establishments. I have had a couple late-night orders where the avocado was a bit underripe, and the tuna wasn’t at its best, but I have never been disappointed by the spicy salmon roll or salmon sashimi. The«cash deal» lets you order 2 – 3 rolls and miso soup for less than $ 15. Go with the salmon and you will not be disappointed.

Just ordered delivery from here using the Unilocal eat 24 app. The food got here surprisingly fast – about 15 minutes, when the estimated delivery time was 45 – 60 minutes. At first, I thought this was fantastic, but upon eating, I wonder if the speedy delivery was based on the food not being made fresh. The sushi was mushy. Like, completely fell apart when I attempted to pick it up. It was drowning in sauce and didn’t taste as fresh as I’m used to sushi tasting. I have never written a Unilocal review before now, but I felt the need to speak up on this place. 4 stars seems like far too high of an average rating based on my experience.

I ordered on Foodler and the delivery guy showed up 40 mins late. I called twice to see where my food was and the first time the lady said the delivery driver was on his way. I only live 10 mins away from the restaurant. 35 mins later I called again and she said he was still on his way. I was a little annoyed. The sushi finally came, and it looked like the driver had ran a marathon with the order because it was shifted and messy in the container. The sushi itself didn’t taste bad, but I would probably skip this place next time and order somewhere else.

We ordered delivery from here, when I had a Grub Hub coupon to use, and wanted a change of scenery from our typical sushi places. Now– from my previous reviews, you’ll see that when I usually make this choice, to try something new, I’m terribly disappointed and wish I had just gone with my old standby. Not with this place. My one issue I had with Hoshi Ya, was that they do not have brown rice, which I found out after I ordered, so keep that in mind. The food however was pretty good, and I found myself to be full but not miserable after eating 2 rolls and an appetizer(with white rice) Our delivery arrived in reasonable time, and everyone was super friendly, and easy to communicate with(as soon as I placed my order on GH, a woman called and explained about the brown rice situation). The sushi was well prepared, and seemed to be pretty high quality ingredients. I don’t know. Everything was good, and it was a good bang for our buck, but nothing really wow’ed me. We would probably order again but we still have other favorites(mmm Gari).

The service here is extremely fast. You’ll walk in, they say ten minutes, you walk out within five. The price is reasonable and the quality is very good. I always get maki rolls — Alaskan and Tuna — they’re better than many I’ve had at other more expensive restaurants. As I live nearby, I come here on a regular basis and have never been disappointed. My girlfriend also has always enjoyed her meal.

Wicked tiny hole in the wall in Oak Square. And I really mean TINY! Literally only 4 seats at the sushi bar and that’s about it for dine in service. On the plus side, the tea service was spectacular! This ain’t a blow your mind out type of joint but rather a good neighborhood inexpensive treat if you are in the area and had a sushi craving. I tried the House Bento Box since it basically had a little bit of everything. I need something like this in my neighborhood! For 14.95, I had chicken teriyaki, shrimp skewers, gyoza, shumai, tempura, sashimi and rice! It’s not to die for but it was darn good for that price! O, and Miso Soup! Fresh oil, Fresh ingredients. what more can I ask for from a wicked TINY space?! Next time I’m in the area, I’d bring cash and do their deal — The CASHDEAL order is available now: any 2 roll $ 8.95, 3 roll $ 12.95

How did I not review this place yet??? I first visited 3 months ago but apparently it’s been around for about 2 – 3 years? Where the heck was I!!! Oh yea Vermont for school. I wish this place was closer to me because for the affordable price, great quality, and late nights for sushi cravings — it is totally worth the binge! It’s nice eating sushi instead of greasy pizza which is usually the only option that is opened that late. At least I wouldn’t feel half as bad eating at a late hour, because sushi is healthy… Right? The service is amazing and if you order through their website they offer deals like free edamame/miso soup/etc with orders over a certain price. Favorites: Spicy salmon salad Hoshiya maki Sake don Can you tell I love salmon and everything is fresh. The miso soup is a-ok, I’ve tasted better but must we really judge a place by the soup? It’s just soup!
