Maria Vasilakis, DMD

Extremely friendly, professional, intelligent & informed staff here. I had my first cleaning there recently, and I feel extremely comfortable returning there for any service that I need.
They warned me of a few precursors to cavities that they found on my x-​rays, but said that good habits and regular cleanings would arrest their growth — they could have told me to fill them right there. The focus on preventative measures assures me that they are really working for me and my health rather than pushing unneeded services.

ONLY GO FOR CLEANINGS — DO NOT GET THE SURGERY.
— My previous dentist says tooth is OK, notes there is a stain, but it is fine as it is not a cavity.
— Vasilakis says I need to pull the tooth — recommends her husband or relative as they are an oral surgeon. (at least that was the impression I got, that it was a close relation.) I mentioned that the same spot had been OKed by my previous dentist. Vaskilakis tells me — ‘well, it is in a hard to work on area, it should be pulled because we can’t get back there.’
— Second opinion from another dentist that same week = tooth is fine.
— Third opinion a year later from different dentist = tooth is fine.
Other than recommending a totally wacky tooth pulling operation the appointment was great. The hygienists are really thorough and the booking/​reception folks are also on the ball. Just watch out for those pesky irreversible oral surgery procedure recommendations you may get.

After moving up to Boston, I was completely bummed that I had to find a new dentist. I happened upon this office based on the Unilocal reviews and I am very grateful. Everyone from the receptionists up to Maria is friendly and professional.
I have been here three times now, two cleanings and a cavity. The atmosphere is very relaxed and Maria fully explains everything before proceeding. In addition, she is not pushy when it comes to additional services. She suggested that I get a mouth guard, but didn’t hound me like a used car salesman. Also, when we discussed teeth whitening, she said I could use Crest white strips if I had more time and did T want to spend as much.
I recently moved to Southie, buy keep coming back here because this is a dentist you keep for as long as you stay in Boston.

Everyone at the office is spectacular. I’ve had wonderful experiences every time that I’ve gone.
I recommend that anyone whose had a horrible experience with a dentist to give this office a try.

First off I’d like to start by saying the front desk staff was wonderful! They helped me figure out my insurance issues nicely and were extremely helpful. My hygienist (Betty) was fantastic. I hadn’t been to the dentist in quite a while and was very nervous about having my teeth looked at. She was kind and gentle and made sure to make me feel comfortable. Though I only met Dr. Kreemer for a brief time she was sweet and also made me feel really comfortable. After having bad experiences in the past with dentist’s offices, Dr Maria’s office was a breath of fresh air.

The good: Nice and modern setting, easy booking, very friendly people.
The very bad: Was told 3 cavities. Never had a cavity before. Got suspicious. Went and got a 2^nd opinion with new x-​rays. Result: Zero cavities! Buyer beware!

I do not know why there are not more reviews on Unilocal for Dr. Maria. This is an excellent dental office with informative and professional dentists and staff. Dr. Maria is great and extremely helpful and thorough. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and efficient; and the oral hygienists are also very nice and professional. I used to hate going to the dentist’s, even for cleanings, but now that I have found this office, I don’t hesitate anymore. I had tooth pain recently, and they were able to squeeze me in that same week. Don’t let the fact that the office is on the first floor of a two-​family house fool you. The office is very clean and the dental equipment seems to be up to date (however, I don’t know anything about dental equipment, so I may be wrong), but the examination rooms have massage chairs and are clean. The waiting room is excellent with water, a Keurig machine, all sorts of magazines, books for the kids, great interior décor. If you want to read more excellent reviews, Dr. Maria has five stars on

I had a great experience here. I have extremely sensitive teeth that required three gum grafting procedures. Anyone with this issue knows that cleanings can be excruciating. Dr. Maria was the one who finally caught this issue and referred me to a periodontist to have it taken care of. I continued to see Betty and Dr. Maria for my cleanings for years afterwards. I can’t speak highly enough of Betty — she was so very considerate of my sensitivity. The last cleaning I had was painless — this was the first time in 5 years! I would highly recommend this practice. On a practical note, parking is pretty easy, for a city dentist — and I really appreciated that they have early morning and evening appointments — you don’t have to rush from or miss work.

After switching dental offices, I finally found a good one.

Everyone here is at the same time super professional and super personable and friendly! I had never enjoyed going to the dentist so much!
On top of being an awesome staff they are very thorough in following up issues, have top of the line technology. From the little things to the medical elements.
In the little things for example you have the fact that they have a texting and email system to remind you if you want to. They have a Keurig coffee maker while you wait, and the dentist chair has an option for a massage, which is amazing!!!
On the medical side they have also top of the line technology, and are all very professional and knowledgable. Not only that, they keep you in the loop as to what is going on with your own health. I’ve been o other dentists that don’t tell you but the minimum because they have so many patients.
They don’t only care to treat problems with your oral health, they care to prevent problems. To give you an example: The other day after looking at an initial x-​ray (which is digitalized, not printed) they took this laser pen that checks on the thickness of my enamel (I had never seen a dentist use this before). It turns out that one of my teeth seemed somewhat weak, but not quite damaged. So, they suggested that my tooth might be at risk, but that it was easy to fix changing some practices. They suggested as a preventive measure to change toothpaste, and proposed to check on it again next time. It turns out my tooth was fine the next time I came in.
So, top of the line technology allowed for prevention, their professional standards allowed them to follow up, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The whole time I was enjoying it so much, before I even got there I got a text reminder, when I got there I got a little Keurig coffee, when they were treating me I got a massage from the chair, and when I left they made sure I had my next appointment ready, and said good bye to me with a big smile!!!

Before you arrive they send you a text to confirm your appointment a week in advance, you reply C to confirm, and then they send you a reminder text the day of the appointment. So, there’s no way you will miss your appointment.
Then you arrive and they have a Keurig Coffee while you wait. Then you seat at the dentist chair, and the chair has a massaging system!!! I am not kidding. Also their X-​rays are digitalized and you can see them on a computer screen. They also have this cool little laser that measures the thickness of the inside of your teeth, so you can catch a problem way before it shows up. This would give any place at least 5 stars, but then there’s the people. Everyone here is incredibly nice and personable, big smiles and friendly people, yet very professional.
I’ve moved a lot in the last 10 years. So, I’ve had about 5 different dentists in my life, most of them excellent places, but I can safely say this is THE best dentist and dentist experience I’ve had so far.

Two years ago Dr Vasilakis fitted one of my back teeth with a crown. Yesterday it broke. The crown broke because a root canal had to be done after the crown was placed and this weakened the crown. Also, the location of the crown on a back tooth subjected the crown to a lot of pressure. Anyway the important point is that Dr Vasilakis said she would replace the crown at no charge.

I live right across the street from Dr. Vasilakis, but for some reason the idea of a dentist in a split level house had me turned off. That is probably just an unfair bias from living in the area/​city for too long and knowing how landlords are about upkeep with their properties. Well i have to say, i am sorry i did not put my biases aside sooner because i was more than pleased with my services from this office.
First of all, the idea of going to the dentist stresses me out. I had a very bad experience with my previous dentist and had not been in three years and i am a bit skeptical of the dental industry and the quality or service vs. the fees they charge.
Secondly, i have «weird» insurance (aka anything besides delta or blue cross dental) and placed several phone calls to area dentist to see if they accepted it, i was met with a no, confusion, or no help what-​so-​ever. The person who i spoke to on the phone at Dr. Vasilakis’ office was very helpful with explaining to me that they did accept my insurance, but they were out of network. I was not sure what that entailed or how it would effect me and they explained it all out for me. This was my deciding factor in booking an appointment.
When i arrived at the office the receptionist was very friendly and the office was quite modern and clean. I was promptly brought into my room for x-​rays and a cleaning. My hygienist, Jamie-​Lynn (sp?) was great. She was very friendly and easy to talk to and made me feel relaxed. Also — the fact that the chairs have a built in massager did not hurt either. She took the time to go over my e-​rays with me, as well as explaining everything she was doing. She was also very knowledgeable with the questions that i had about some issues i have going on. I also received the least stressful and painless cleaning ever!
The Doctor came in and greeted me and was very friendly. She went over some areas of concern and a treatment plan, while explaining each procedure, why i needed it, and what it entailed. Nothing was pushed on me and it was a very easy experience overall. It was also nice to have a younger female doctor in a sea of what seems like a profession filled with 70 year old men with nose hairs and antiquated teachings. I was also pleased to hear about her and Jamie-Lynn’s (sp?) humanitarian efforts in Honduras, if i remember correctly.
I would recommend Dr. Vasilakis to anyone in the area for a relaxed and professional dental environment! Glad i found them!

I had such a wonderful first experience at Dr. Vasilakis’ office and am thrilled to continue a lasting relationship there.
Let’s start with the front office. Appointments are easy to schedule, they even double checked my insurance coverage, and printed out estimates for the work I needed done based on estimates of my insurance benefits. For me, that was above and beyond. I can’t tell you how many times offices were so reluctant to give me any type of estimate on potential work when I asked. Or they were extremely cautious, making sure I understood it was just an estimate and might not even be very meaningful due to insurance fluctuations.
My hygienist — yes, I have my own hygienist which will see me through my bi-​yearly appointments. Jaymi-​Lyn was so informative and gentle. I loved that she talked me through every single step of what she’s checking for, what this equipment does, and what I can check for myself at home. I also ask a lot of questions so I was glad at not only how patient she was, but how thorough her answers were. It feels wonderful to know I can continue to email her with questions that may arise before my next appointment.
Dr. Vasilakis — she was equally as gentle and warm as the rest of the staff. She listened to my concerns, my issues in the past, and how I wanted to proceed in the future with her. I’m so relieved to have the future of my tooth health in the hands of this wonderful office!
