Battaglia’s has been in Pelham Gardens for as long as I can remember; back in the day it used to be a small, narrow Italian deli. When the shoe store on the corner closed down, Battaglia’s expanded to what it is today: an Italian deli and grocery store that serves hot food. I don’t patron the deli section, but if I need a quick grocery item I’ll stop here. Their selection is smaller than a regular grocery store, but they have the basics so it definitely serves its purpose. Though they expanded, they pack a lot in a somewhat small space — the aisles are tight! I personally prefer other delis in Pelham Gardens, but there certainly isn’t anything wrong with Battaglia’s– it serves its purpose and is a saving grace for those living off Eastchester Road.

For a neighborhood deli/market this place is awesome. Wide selection of products and items, their ready to serve/eat food has a lot of fresh and good selections, friendly service and helpful staff. Please note that there is a $ 10 min for debit/credit card transactions.

This place has seen better days. Due to recent renovation items are all in random places. My bag handle ripped and the cashier girl just tied it rather than giving me a new bag. In the refrigerator section I saw items that were expired a month ago still on the shelves, and yes I double checked to make sure it the right year. Place can be super over priced given they are one of the only supermarkets around. Please double check the expiration for stuff before buying.

3.5 stars. Very good store-made roast beef. Prepared dinners a decent buy. Hot buffet hit or miss. It’s not consistent. I’ve gotten chicken francese(sp?) from there twice. Once was good, once was very tough. They have a frequent buyer card where you buy I think 7 dinners & the eighth is free. I do find it odd that there are tip jars by both cashiers as well as one at the deli counter and one on the hot buffet display case. I mean you’re paying fairly high prices already & a tip every so often, especially if you’re getting multiple items, is ok, but with 4 tip jars I feel somewhat pressured. Maybe it’s just me? Overall though it’s a good place most times.

This is not your typical bodega! Small market but definitely worth going to. It is clean and has friendly workers there. More importantly, they have such fresh produce and good tasting food. So glad to have a place like this in my neighborhood.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Their food is fresh and delicious. I’m trying to keep the weight down and this is the only place in the area that offers vegetable as sides with their dishes. If you’re in the area try them they won’t disappoint you.

Super homey Italian place with cheap, good Italian dinners that they make in-house. Run with pride, a true neiborhood place.

Nice spot to pick up produce or a hot plate. Classic Italian grocery. Shelf space is crowded so it can be hard to locate items and the aisles are narrow, you vet very up close and personal when passing another customer. If you are not familiar with italian cusine there are many new things to try.

I’m reviewing their hot food and deli menu in the back as I’ve never actually shopped here. My coworker gets all her fruits and veggies here tho — so I’m guessing she’s a fan.(^.^) They have a pretty good selection of food in the back of the market; I usually get the grilled chicken with a mix of grilled asparagus, broccoli rabe and whatever else vegetables they have for the day(usually steamed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots), but I’m always tempted by their other — probably less calorie-conscious — selections, like teriyaki meatballs, chicken parm, pastas… Maybe one day! They have a lunch card that they stamp with every meal you get; buy 7 and the next one is free! The girls who work the counter are so cute; they ring a little bell every time someone gets a free lunch. Battaglia’s is also my daily coffee spot; they’re so much better than the Dunkin Donuts down the street!(And cheaper!)

Battaglia’s catered a large party at my home a few weeks ago and did a great job. Service: They were prompt and efficient with ordering and their prices are extremely reasonable for NY. Service was friendly and professional. And, as is so important with caterers, these guys arrived right on time for delivery. Food: Chicken Marsala — tons of mushrooms, lots of chicken, definitely did not skimp on quantity. It wasn’t the best chicken marsala I’ve had, but it was good. Pasta Pomodoro — was a little more saucy than I expected, I’d try something different next time. Beef Short Ribs — one word: fantastic. Falling off the bone, well-seasoned, just delicious. Overall, I was really pleased with their service and would definitely order from them again.

This place is as good or better than Delis in little Italy, you pay a premium but you get what you pay for. You will find all the authentic Italian good here, and it smells like a real Italian Deli! P.S Get yourself a Prociutto/Mozzarella/Roasted peppers on a roll with a little olive oil and your in heaven!

A friend of mine recommended this place. Not quite sure what he ordered me, but the taste was AMAZING! I’m not a big fan of deli, at first I was like… «ugh. sandwich place? really?» So I took my first bite… and I was like … «wow. it does taste good!» Salad was amazing too!!! I’d like to visit this place again in the future!

When looking for a caterer for a family party, I didn’t want the same old-same old(in an Italian family, that would be a tray of penne vodka, one of chicken scarpiello, and sausage & peppers) which is great and all but party after party, its gets to be a little boring. So, we went on a mission to find that something different, and where did we end up, but an Italian caterers from the Bronx. Go figure. However, we didn’t order the old standbys but instead knocked the socks off our family with trays chicken sesame meatballs, rigatoni with braised short rib, stuffed sole with crabmeat, Greek orzo salad, avocado & brie crostinis drizzled with pesto — just to name a few of the delicious things we ordered from Dave, the Mesa Grill /Bobbie Flay-trained chef. Nick & Dave were very helpful in us picking our menu and delivered everything(with the sternos and all) right on time for our party. And though we ordered a lot of food(Italian family, remember?) everyone came back for seconds and thirds so we barely had leftovers. No waste — which is great! Battaglia’s made our day and happily fed our group of 60 people. This family will definitely have them on speed dial for future parties.

Battaglia’s saved the neighborhood when the supermarket was closed down. They were just a meat market/grocery which expanded to a mini supermarket. The good thing about Battaglia’s, is not only do they pack every itty bitty space possible with groceries, but they have serve hot lunch. The hot station is in the back and for less then $ 7 you can get lots of choices. I settled for the ziti and chicken parm. It’s pretty damn good and convenient if you ask me.

When the neighborhood grocery closed down, Thank God for Battaglia’s. Where was I going to get quick fruits, veggies, milk, juice and bread without leaving my neighborhood? Battaglia’s Meat Market expanded to a neighborhood grocery in Pelham Gardens. The plus is they also have some great Italian products like fresh mozzarella, Parmigiana Reggiano, Proscuitto… They have a nice deli and very nice prepared dishes for the nights that you do not want to cook. Their expansion is a nice improvement to the neighborhood.
