Just had dinner here and was not too pleased. The food was mediocre at best. The pork and beef sliders was distasteful. Although, the alcapurria’s were surprisingly really good. They really need to take out the watery tomato sauce from the ceviche and add more cilantro and lemon; go back to the original recipe please. The worst part of my dinner experience was they ran out of white wine! It’s a Friday, early evening night, how does that happen? The ambience was colorful and the salsa music paired well with the place. Overall out of 10 I’d fairly say my experience was a 4.

I really try to give an honest review cause I know how hard everyone works for their money. There wasn’t anything fantastic to rave about. Let’s start at the beginning. The venue is beautiful. The music is great, classic salsa. We went during restaurant week and the pre-fixe was $ 25. Everything is mini sized. I ordered a churrasco, it was sliced in pieces. Honestly, we left hungry. Even the flan was a spoonful. The waitress was good but she forgot a few times things we asked for. It was overwhelming for her to be the only waitress. The owner came to our table and introduced herself. As she was sitting with us, a lady came off the street going table to table selling dvd’s. I was shocked they didn’t ask her to leave. When I mentioned it, she said she comes all the time and doesn’t listen. It wasn’t a terrible experience but it wasn’t a great one. Maybe happy hour and tapas will be best at Casa.

This Casa definitely feels like home. Both Sammy and Vanessa cannot be more gracious as hosts. At the end the proof is in the pudding– for a restaurant that means the food and drinks. Well, the drinks are terrific, along with the bartenders, and the food is definitely on point. I highly recommend the cuban sliders, alcapurias and empanadas. At the end you cannot leave this place without trying the flan– words cannot describe how good it is. Great time — will definitely be back soon.

This event took place Friday, December 18, 2015. We decided to have our school holiday party at this location. We were told that we would have 2 hours open bar and tapas platters of 4 different choices. Two days before the event I went to drop off the money for 43 people. Before I handed in the money I wanted to confirm the plans. The owners(nice people) said that I needed to speak to Jeannie/Jeanette(she goes by one name but her email address says Jeanette) who was organizing the party as she had the details, but they insisted, that what I was requesting should be fine. I was requesting/ensuring that are group received at least 2 hours open bar and tapas platter for the amount of people attending. On both occasions that a dropped off the money Jeanette was not available(car broken down… Side eye) but again they insisted that my request should be accommodated. This is Throggs Neck in the Bronx,(no trains and meter parking) I really don’t think I was requesting that much, since on the two occasions that I stopped at the bar the location was completely empty… EMPTY. The night before the event I spoke to Jeanette and asked her if we could extend the 2 hours open bar because everyone was not drinking. She said that the way the package was set up they couldn’t, but she ensured that everyone would get their money worth because food was also included. I was hesitant, but we ended the conversation with her ensuring me that her name was on the line and that she would make sure we had a good time and it would be worth the money. On the day of the event I went to provide the party planner with the updated list of guests. This was about 3:15. No one was available. Mind you our event was starting at 4:00. I left the list with the cook who was the only one in the building. When I arrived at 4:10 the hostess did not have the updated list and was using the old guest list. There was only one bartender(nice lady) but she was unable to handle the amount of people in our party(49 people). When I spoke to Jeanette the day before she stated that open bar would start at 4:30(as requested) and that food would be available for us a half an hour after that. When the food finally arrive, at 6:00, we only received enough food to feed 20 people, if that. I told Jeanette that my name is on this and that I needed to make sure that my party had a good time. Jeanette ensured me that her name was also on this and that she would make sure everything went well. To make a long story short, we were highly disappointed. In addition, to celebrating our holiday party, it was three staff members birthday(including myself) I ended up paying out an extra $ 100 to ensure that all guest got a little food. Most people left early to go and get food, next door at Throggs Neck Clippers(excellent service). I was so disappointed in Casa, as I expected my guests to have a good time and get their money worth. Like I stated the owners were nice, but they did not handle the situation well. Unlike, the other guests, I live in the neighbor and know that this restaurant is NEVER full(drove pass it everyday before our event). Outside of our party there was about 7 other patrons. If you are in this area, there are nicer places where you will get excellent service and your money worth.

Mi Casa es su Casa! The old saying came true for me from the first moment I entered this new exciting restaurant/lounge on Tremont Avenue in the Bronx! Owners Sammy Beltron and his lovely wife Vanessa and his partner Arnold Rodriguez created a Manhattan-posh, serene ambiance with the décor of dark charcoal grey walls adorned with comfy booth seating all around the restaurant with warm red hanging lights and modern art amplifying the mood. The long bar is complimented by cool blue lighting below and whimsical rectangular cylinder clear lights with crystal bubbles that just make them pop! Our server Ivanna was a sweetheart that really knew the menu cuisine and suggested I order a sampler platter of five different Latin tapas that are popular which was the perfect idea! Jamie the bubbly and nice bartender is also a expert mixologist making a perfect mint Mojito for me while I waited for my food. Chef Fernando Garcia, seasoned chef experienced in many prominent restaurants here and in the Dominican Republic, presented a sampler of five gorgeous Latin tapas which was explained in detail by the Chef! A gorgeously presented plate of Pionono(Sweet Plantain with Beef), Skewers of beef, chicken and chorizo on a slice of pineapple, Beef Acapurias(mashed plantains, yucca and potato with ground beef) and my two favorites were the Bacalaitos which were delicious crispy Cod fritters with a horseradish and lime aioli to compliment! The other favorite was the mini trio of Empanadas with chicken(with olives and capers), Beef(Ropa Vieja with peppers and onions) and the Vegetarian(spinach with cheese) with a red pepper sauce. I can’t wait to return to try more from their menu of Latin Tapas, salads, Latin Pots, Chicharrones(especially the Casa Spring rolls) and side dishes! I ordered the perfect ending to this meal, I thought, of their Tres Leche, but then I was presented by Jamie with their signature cocktail called«Casa Blanca» which is a light but decadent cocktail best described as a Toasted Almond with a splash of fiery cinnamon adorned with a cinnamon stick! This Tastyladies NY is not easily impressed by new cocktails, but this winner is my new favorite! With an addition of a party room and brunch on weekends in the future, this new find will be a place to drink, eat and be very, very Merry! Be on the look out for their ribbon cutting and Grand opening soon!
