This is not a Unilocal type of establishment. This is a local Spanish spot. They cater mainly to take out service. The food is good and fresh. If you’re looking for a quick hearty Latin meal, then come here. If you’re looking for a fine dining experience go else where.

I never write reviews, but I had to for this one. The absolute worst service I’ve ever had. Ever. There are other things I could say, about the food, price, etc, but the service was absolutely horrible. No greeting. I sat myself. I asked the people who seemed to work there questions and they would just grunt and nod in response.

The rotisserie chicken is good. No good fresh hot sauce like they have at other rotisserie places. Rice is good. Beans are awful. All the veggies are boiled or stewed to death. Tables are sticky and feels unclean. It’s the only one around, but I wouldn’t order from here if there was another choice nearby.

Food is decent, with good sized portions, however you will wait forever for wait staff. The night we were there one waitress covered all 12 large tables. The poor woman was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. The place is also not the cleanest you have have eaten it but it fits the neighborhood. 2 stars was generous.

Cannot express my words except HORRIBLE! Unilocal should take them off their system. Food: blah! Service: none at all! Cleanliness: bugs! Also they offer a glass of wine free if your check in via Unilocal and they do not provide.

Please don’t waste your time by coming to this establishment. Their customer service has gone down the drain during the past few years. This used to be my go to place, but now I would rather go hungry than to eat from this place. During my last visit, our waitress was less than stellar and was more worried about the conversation she was having on her phone than making sure she was taking our order correctly. We were forced to ask another waitress to come take care of us and there was in instance where I had to get up and ask for a dish we had asked 3 times before. Also, there was a bug in my water. There were having some promotion going on which guaranteed a free glass of wine if you checked in for that location on Unilocal. When I tried to redeem this, I was told they could not do it because the manager had to approve and he was gone for the night. The place was smelly, looked dirty, and the food looked like it had been sitting there for days instead of hours. I would not recommend this place nor will I ever go back. New management seriously needs to take over before they lose the little bit of customers they have left.

I love this place, close by… home made spanish food… and barely any wait time on the food.

I’ve been coming to this place for years, and the food is always consistently good. They serve large portions for less than $ 10! I’ve never eaten inside the restaurant as it is usually very warm, but the take out orders are always great. Overall great place for a quick bite!

This place is the worst. Extremely rude counter staff, horribly dried out chicken, and everything is dirty! We were trying to ask some simple questions, one of the guys didn’t speak English(which is fine), so he was asking another girl for help and she was so rude to us. She told us that one of the dishes was«goldfish,» thinking that was funny — but then for real wouldn’t tell us what it was. When they scooped up the rice and beans, we asked for a lot of beans, a little rice. She said«we don’t do that here» and gave us a dish that was literally 90% rice. Terrible place, never going here again.

eeEEk. Waitresses were friendly, but I came and tried the roast chicken with rice and beans combo and it was… really just not good. Some of the driest rotisserie chicken, virtually inedible. Skin was also overly salted and i usually love food on the salty side. With that said, I’ll probably go back and try the roast pork(the crispy skin looked tempting) or beef stew. The beans and rice were decent. I’ll give an updated review after giving it another shot since it’s on the home from work and pretty convenient, quick meal. OVERALL: chicken needs some tender love and care, maybe it was an off morning? ******************* Update: moved from 2 to 3.5 stars. I haven’t ventured to get the rotisserire chicken again, but I’ve found comfort in there many other dishes which are quite good. In order of goodness: #Roast Pork with crispy skin — the best thing they have here, usually pretty moist and the crispy/fatty skin is where it’s at, always #Grilled chicken(yes grilled): lots of flavor cause its thigh meat and with pickled peppers. huge portions #Beef stew/pork stew — not bad, a bit on the salty side

Many of the positive reviews I’ve read are from people outside the neighborhood or Yankee fans on game day. I have dined in at Molino Rojo several times a year over the 10 years I’ve lived on the Concourse. Tonight I got the take out chicken. It was way overcooked and dry, but I was hungry so I ate half with rice I made. An hour later I wasn’t feeling well. While I’ve never gotten sick from the food there before, it’s never been anything amazing. It’s okay if you have no other options. I doubt I’ll go back after today’s experience. I do not recommend.

Today at 5:35 I walked in with my mom, there was like 3 people waiting for them to take there order me and my mother waited and waited till there where done nobody there spoke to us or said we will be with you in a second my mother mention to them that she wanted a chicken soup but nobody responded. I worked in restaurants all my life I was a manager in mcdonalds and now I am a server and bartender in Applebee’s there was nobody there for her not to even knowledge the fact that we was there speaking to her her name was rosa c and the order number was 753555 the lady in the dinning room heard my mother and she said she will be with you shortly and I was mad and I said yea I understand but she’s too busy in the counter and she should of said something. As soon as she Hurd me she started talking back to me claiming she did not see us when my mother was clearly talking to her and she give us her back like she was annoyed if you don’t like your job get a new one don’t give people the wrong impression when all we want is our food And good service I would never have an argument with a customer she kept on defending her self instead of putting her anger to the side and do her job bad place to go to ruin my day I stopped arguing but she kept on like I don’t have time to argue she needs to get fire.

No me gusta. I live 2 blocks away and go here only when I’m coming home drunk and crave something greasy to eat before going to sleep. I usually get the chicharron de puerco, or alcapurria, pastelito etc. I’ve legit had better elsewhere even at 1:45 in the morning. The food is just not all that. There’s something about it and it just doesn’t have that tender, love and care that other Latin restaurants have. Also, the restaurant itself is pretty strange because the servers in the front are Dominican but the people cooking the food in the back are Puerto Rican. So basically they’re having an identity crisis. I don’t know what nationality they want to be. Next time you’re there, check out the male chefs that walk up to the front, they’re all Puerto Rican, and I love Puerto Rican food but they just don’t do it well.

My first experience with this place was 12 years ago working with a Spanish interpreter at the court. Now every time I am in the Bronx I stop by to grab a bite. Fisrt off let me start out by saying, the tostones and pasteles are muy sabroso. Forget about the soups and rice. Portions are ginormous, usually can’t finish it but take leftovers. Service varies between slow and slow, but they are nice and the price is unbeatable. Its a great, inexpensive neighborhood joint.

Came here to grab a bite to eat before the Yankees-Mets game last night based on positive Unilocal reviews. Oh man, it was a terrible mistake. Everything they said was true: yes, the prices were low. Yes, the restaurant is very hot(possibly from the hot tables) and the service was slow. The BF, who grew up eating Spanish food took care of the ordering. We got the following to try: –rib tips: fried, and the meat was bland, tough, and dry. –sweet plantains: not sweet enough and again overfried. –cuban sandwich: pre-made and heated up to order, like the other reviews stated before, it has no pickles or mustard, super dry as well. –passion fruit juice: taste like the concentrated stuff. –white rice: it as ok, but it’s not easy messing up rice. The BF ate a few bites and threw it away. The food didn’t sit well with the BF and he felt sick throughout the game. Overall, a bad experience and we will know to look elsewhere for a pre-game bite.

This place has gone downhill fast. The food has gown downhill, the prices are up, but their service is the #1 issue. Whenever I place an order, they take their time picking up the phone but are never busy when you show up. When you head in, you’ll stand at the empty counter for several minutes before anyone acknowledges you — but they’ll have 5 or more staff members standing behind the counter just chit chatting with each other or with friends/other staff members that are off duty. When they finally take your order, theyre extremely slow and will even stop in the middle of putting your order together or taking payment. I refuse to order from here again.

. .A Haitian, A Sikh, A Dominican walks into Molino Rojo. What happens is that we were all mesmerized by the different meats on display made out mouths water for more of this Dominican Puerto Rican hybrid of foods. Our waitress kept a smile her face, and explained the menu. We looked over the very extensive menu. Best choice was the whole roasted chicken shared by all of us. White rice and yellow rice accompanied with beans which were«eh» There is a «check in offer» glass of cold wine, however with an entrée. The fried green plantains so tasty had an über crunch. Just ordering a whole chicken is considered one entrée. Only one of us was able to get the wine. She forgot to bring the empanadas. Boo. I used the Tabasco sauce in combination with the vinaigrette sauce over my chicken gave it an interesting kick. M.R. sits right outside Yankee stadium nearby the trains. M.R. is a great place to go before or after the game at least you don’t have to spend $ 22,0 on a burger or what seems to be one at Yankee stadium.

It was really nice to be able to try out this place when I was in the area recently. Located very close to the train station, it looks like a take out spot from outside. They serve all the staple dominican food delights. As one enters there is a hot bar with the food on display. As we wanted to sit down and eat, we went to the dining area at the back. They have a decent size dining room. Our server was friendly, we went with Rice, beans, a whole chicken and plantains. I must say though the place is not fancy but the food was really nice. I had the yellow rice and my friend white rice with beans. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Our plaintains were also good. I would definitely come back here to try more food. We spent $ 20 on all of our food and we were stuffed at the end. FYI — Unilocal check in lets you get a free glass of wine per entrée. It took a while the server to understand the check in offer. Though we ordered 3 entrees she restricted 1 glass of wine to each table. The glass of merlot came out cold, it tasted funny. I would skip wine here.
