If you want to get the full Kingsbridge experience, you need to stop by Mr. McGoo’s Pub and have a beer. This place has been open ever since I was a kid, and probably before then. All the bartenders know the regulars, and make you feel like a regular even if it’s your first time there. Aside from being a bar, this place is a music venue. From Hip-Hop shows, to Reggae shows, to soft rock, this place has hosted every genre you can think of, and oh baby, it’s only gonna get better from here. They have an outdoor section with gorgeous murals, and lighting, as well as a tent used on occasion and a stage for performers. This place is a true community bar. They’re not trying to bring Williamsburg into The Bronx, not trying to be something their not. You’re not valid if the locals don’t know you. Groovy spot

I really love this place. The bartenders are super nice. Has a very friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy great music and great people. You’ll find the regulars to be very inviting. I usually go for the free live music, although my boyfriend finds himself stationed at the pinball machine LOL. We travel a distance coming in from Brooklyn, but its well worth it. They have an amazing sheltered back yard with tables. Even in the winter they have it open with heaters running so you can keep warm while enjoying the free live music. Just last night they had free BBQ, a live band and a DJ to top the night off. It seems that their very own bartender Virginia, has many talents. Her band called Morning Thunder is one of their many live acts. Its worth a trip out. There is always free parking within a few feet, but best of all its right at the subway.

I really like this place. They had me at the first concert I heard reverberating from their backyard. Dive bar. Like really. Like everything from the young to one foot in the grave drinks there. Ah, community! And it seems they also do trips to the races. The bar itself is not the most stocked spectacle in the world. But what they have will do. I mostly go for the after work lounge ability. And a loud place to grade and lesson plan. The bartenders are very friendly. Very friendly. Every one offering their name and a handshake. They have had a bbq celebration in the month I’ve been attending. Free all you can eat bbq with a drink. And I’ve enjoyed the opening of their Battle of the Bands.

Good prices. Great bartenders. Sometimes they have food for free. Sometimes they have live music. They always have a patio, and sometimes, during nice weather, it’s open.

Saturday, 3:30pm In need of a place nearby to have a drink in the sun, we decided to check out Mr. McGoo’s. At first glance we felt that this was not our scene. The place was filled with folks in their 50s &60s(something for me to look forward to) hanging out in the dark front area while it was gorgeous outside. We walked towards the back and they had a pretty spacious patio though the DJ on the platform in the back was playing music loud enough to fill a venue three times the patio size. Interestingly we smelled the smoke from the cigarettes even though it was an open space. Add to the fact that it was cash only and we definitely realized that this was not our scene. We stepped out and headed a few blocks up to The Bronx Ale House instead.

Great happy hour specials during the week. Open mic night on Wednesdays. Very good prices. They have an outside patio with live music and BBQ on the weekends. 8TV’s for the sports fans. I like that they serve frozen drinks(Mudslides, pina coladas, margaritas, strawberry daiquiris) and they are yummy too! Very convenient location, right next to the subway. They do not serve food, but they usually put out free snacks for the patrons, which is a nice touch. Very spacious — good for groups and parties.

Nice blue-collar neighborhood bar right under the 1 train and easy to get to. They also have a big open patio and stage out in the back for the warmer months. Eddie bartends during the week for now and can chat you up about anything from Bukowski to baseball and Bill(great bartender) takes over Saturdays and Sundays. Weekends are a mixed crowd– young and old alike and never too packed, the drinks are cheap and the jukebox is usually playing something good. Buybacks and free hot dogs? You bet.
