Sal is the best! The building looks sketchy but the pizza is fabulous and sal and his family make you feel at home. Try the penne vodka pizza, you will not be disappointed.

Ok, so this is definitely not the best pizza in New York, or in the Bronx for that matter. Great, yes. The best? Ehhh definitely not. My boyfriend and I went for the sausage parm hero which was amazing, and a personal pie cheese pizza topped with basil. The sausage and pepper, gooey, cheesy monster was topped on a homemade piece of buttery bread. It was also seasoned just right. I expected the pizza to be topped with fresh basil, however, it was topped with dry basil leaves, out of a shaker. That’s ok though, because I devoured that baby like nobody’s business. The cheese lacked a bit of flavor, but the toppings, the thin crust, and just the right amount of grease made up for it. Sal, the owner, and his wife are probably two of the most hospitable people I’ve ever met. We felt right at home as soon as we walked in. Sal even made it a point to learn both our names, and kept screaming over to my boyfriend, Dave, if he was enjoying his sandwich. He even serenaded us with an Italian opera! I look forward to heading over to the Bronx more often, just to eat wonders from this lovely little hidden gem!

Me and my family visited this pizza joint last night. The décor is a little crazy and the location is a little strange but that’s where it stops. We were greeted by the owner serenading his wife through karaōke. It was very sweet. The pizza was really really good. We sat out on the patio thanks to the beautiful weather and enjoyed a large round and a Sicilian between me, my wife, and 4 children. The pizza again was really good. The round was thin and crunchy the sauce was delicious. If anything it could use a little more cheese other than that the pizza was phenomenal. The Sicilian was thick soft and delicious with the edges still crunchy. Again the sauce was really good and it could have used a little more cheese. Four stars overall for the food. But the reason this place gets the fifth star is how amazing the owner was. During our meal he came over and played somewhere over the rainbow on his saxophone. It was an amazing experience and a perfect end to our trip to the Bronx.

For me, THE New York experience is about places like Pugsley — great food, great vibe, great people. First off, I love the space. Inside, the pizzeria has several booths and walls decked out with photos, handwritten menus, and Fordham garb. Outside is a decently sized patio where on a nice day you can enjoy your pepperoni slice or chicken roll. The owner Sal is a gem: warm, energetic, and an absolute riot. This was my first time ever at Pugsley, and he was joking with me like I knew him for years! I love that, along with the friendliness of the rest of the staff. As folks have been saying, the chicken roll is where it’s at. Not a calzone, but several slices of breaded chicken cutlet with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan nestled in freshly baked crust roll. The chicken was juicy and fresh, and went nicely with the crispy crust and the robust tomato sauce. It’s easy to see why Fordham students love this place — can’t wait to go back to taste the other slices and offerings on their(very) expansive menu!

It might be located outside of the gates of Fordham’s campus, but make no mistake — Pugsley’s is a true staple for Fordham students, families, and staff. It’s a delightfully wacky place complete with lots of random Fordham memorabilia, homespun life philosophies, and even a very loud gong. The chicken rolls are where it’s at. You’re not going to find another chicken roll quite like Pugsley’s anywhere else. And the pizza is truly great too. Fortunately, that’s what the Richie special is for — a chicken roll and a slice of pizza at one absurdly low price. It’s been a few years since I graduated Fordham, and the chicken rolls still taste as good as I remember them. Where else are you going to find delicious, cheap chicken rolls and pizza at 2 o’clock on a Tuesday morning? And who would want a chicken roll and a pizza at 2 o’clock on a Tuesday morning, other than a college student? It’s a perfect match.

A Fordham University staple since the mid-1980s, I’d been a Pugsley’s regular from 1992 until leaving the Bronx in 2014. Long enough to have«the Professor Special» named after me — ziti with chicken & cheese, a loaf of amazing, fresh baked garlic bread & a can of Coke, for $ 10. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Bronx, between Fordham University’s Walsh Hall & a couple of carpet shops & the noise & congestion of Fordham Road, Pugsley’s is that rare treat — a secret to those in the know. Unlike Full Moon or any number of busy shops along nearby Arthur Avenue, this place is frequented mainly by Fordham students & faculty, alumni, cops, & people in the immediate neighborhood. But there’s something about it — once you’ve tried it, it’s difficult not to stay hooked. A menu highlight is their chicken rolls. Standard are the best, but they’ll serve them up buffalo or bbq style. The pizza of course, with any number of toppings, is also excellent, as is the pasta. Rounding out the menu, there are salads, burgers, & a few other things, but the pizza, pasta & chicken rolls are really your best bets. But this place isn’t entirely about the food. There’s also atmosphere. The people behind the counter, especially longtime proprietor, Sal, are a treat to behold. Is your pizza ready? Listen for the gong. Dine indoors, or on a hot summer day, out on the patio. Enjoy some live music. Or, as they’re active in the university community, come by during an «Eat Up» & for $ 5, enjoy a night of all-you-can-eat in support a campus organization.

Living in Manhattan has been a disappointment in the way of pizza options. I’m not a picky eater, so I’ll still eat pretty much anything, but the quality just isn’t quite what I expected. A lot of places seem to use tomato sauce that is straight from the can without being properly seasoned. Before I moved to NYC from California, I had this glorified perception that New York City would be like pizza heaven and that I would be able to find the holy grail of all pizzas. Boy was I wrong! Lo and behold, my friends took me up to Pugsley’s and I was blown away. This is by far the best pizza I have ever had and it reminds me of the kind of pizza comparable to Ninja Turtles. Furthermore, the prices here are ridiculously affordable and the portions are quite large. Do yourself a favor and try any of their toppings here(even plain cheese) and throw in some tasty garlic knots. You won’t regret it!!!

I’m lucky enough to live right across the street from this place. The penne pizza is amazing! A must try for anyone who loves authentic Italian cuisine. The pasta with garlic oil is another fav of mine. You can’t go wrong with this place. Remember the credit card minimum is $ 10 dollars.

Pugsley’s is hands down the best place in the Bronx Little Italy area. It’s a favorite of Fordham students, particularly at 2am when the bars are closing down. The pizza is great, the people working are the friendliest around. My recommendations: Spinach pie Regular cheese(can’t go wrong) Chicken roll Nutella pie Love pie Any of the pies with pasta on them Garlic knots

Today was my first time ordering from here, I ordered a small pepperoni pie. Let me tell you it was gone in seconds!!! Soooo delish! Thin crust, perfect sauce, very cheesy and lots of pepperoni. So amazing, you can taste the quality in the pizza. Very quick delivery and the pizza was still hot. Also only 10 bucks for it! Great prices and great food! I will be ordering from here alot from now on! :)

I graduated from Fordham YEARS ago & I still come back for more! I’m addicted to Pugsley’s. I’m not sure if I’m more in love with the amazing pizza and chicken rolls that they make here or with the owner Sal and his wife. They are such amazing people and will make you feel like you’re right at home every time you visit Pugsley’s. During my entire time at Fordham University, I made sure to always order Pugsley’s for our student meetings & on campus events because that’s what everyone on campus loved. They are open late, prices are reasonable and you feel right at home in this little gem. Pugsley’s for life!

Let’s be honest. I went to Fordham and took a trip to Pugsley my very first night, so I have a huge bias toward this place. But if I’m being completely truthful, their pizza is very good. It’s not about the pizza, it’s about the atmosphere. This is a classic whacky college pizza joint half a block fro campus where the people who work there are wonderful and the food is very good, too. The classic is the«Richie Special» that comes with a slice and the ever-fawned-over chicken roll. They make a good chicken roll. My favorite is what I have dubbed the«Brian Special» which is a cheese calzone(essentially a loaf of their tasty bread stuffed full of mozzarella and ricotta cheese) with added meatballs, a cup of sauce, and an Orangina. For $ 10.50, you can’t go wrong, and it’s a lot of food!

This semester I’ve been spending way too many Friday nights here. Absolutely still love the mushroom and spinach slices. Garlic knots are amazing too and the pasta OMG. Delish. The baked ziti pizza, heaven. If you’re in the Bronx, make the effort to visit. You won’t regret it.
