The name should be changed to «Feed It To the Dog.» The food’s not only lousy and strangely much too sweet, but, yup, it’s also ridiculously expensive.

I had their catered foods for the Pesach seders this year. The gefilte fish and chopped liver were both very good, although the liver seemed to not be so fresh. The best thing they made for us was the matzah farfel kugel. This was delicious, slightly sweet, and had mushrooms, celery, and red peppers. The cole slaw was also very good, and was creamy and sweet, just how I like it. The brisket was okay, although a little on the tough side, not very tender. All under the Vaad of Riverdale supervision. The potato kugel was also good.

I am a professional chef; in fine dining for 15 years. The cold roasted chickens are good to very good. Cooked well, seasoned nicely. Beware the salads and sides. They are swimming in sugar. From stuffed cabbage to cucumbers to coleslaw. Yes, that’s correct, they put sugar(and LOT’S of cinnamon!) in overly ground and strangely textured meat. The mouthfeel on that dish is not one I want to repeat. The chicken comes with a side salad. So my comments are a bout a salad bundled into the cost of the chicken, for full disclosure purposes. The staff will insist that there is no sugar in it. Do not believe them. I am not being funny or smarty– alekie here: This food is cooked by someone who consumes a VERY high sugar diet. It is perfect taste-wise for people who consume a high sugar diet. It is clear the cook has lost the ability to taste sugar either because he/she is desensitized to it from over-consumption or because he/she has some kind of medical disorder which blunts the ability to physically recognize sugar(OR the cook does not taste the food at all, ever). Again, I am not kidding. We see this all the time with cooks with both sugar and salt. That is how much sugar is in every single dish in this place. I profoundly dislike sugar on cucumbers, pasta, wheat berries, cabbage, rice, meat and food in general. This is a preference. Many may not share my preference. However, a member of my family is diabetic. That is a health and safety issue. I spent 5 minutes making sure there was no sugar in the food I ordered. I was assured there was none, and kind of looked at like I was a crazy person that there would be sugar in salad(I know their reputation, so I was trying to make sure). I got the food home… And sure enough, cucumber salad and coleslaw were crispy, firm, had the perfect amount of dressing, looked fresh and inviting… and would 5 stars .if they were not were inedible past the first bite because of sugar overload. I telephoned the place and told them about the sugar. I reminded them that telling a diabetic that there is no sugar in something can make them very sick or kill them. They still towed the line. «No sugar». Granted the guy I was dealing with said he did not personally make the food, he probably makes 6 dollars an hour and his English is… eh. If you are unaccustomed to a high sugar diet or have blood glucose/insulin problems, this is a place you should avoid.(except, I think, the roasted chickens). Not only does the otherwise fresh and carefully handled food taste horrible, it is horrible for you. The staff is either ignorant or dishonest — either way– badly run.

Take out food shop that seems to have greatly increased its offerings since the last time I browsed through. Got two chicken legs that were delish. Tasted just like mom’s. Bought some hamantaschen too(just to try and help me check out this place even though it’s been here for a long time) and it’s pretty good, for store-bought.

We had a great Shabbat by purchasing their frozen chulent. They gave us a discount for Friday, and they seem to have a broad range of fresh kosher fare at reasonable prices. We’re definitely going back… also look for their specials on Challah and Challah rolls, which were a steal.
