The MJ Treatment

I know what your thinking and any place that gets 5 stars from almost everyone must be too good too be true… Well this place earns every one of its stars…
I originally tried going thru Groupon to find a massage place and when I decided to research some of the places the reviews were so horrible and disheartening that I decided to do some research of my own and came across MJ Treatment. According to numerous reviews on various different websites ( Unilocal, genbook, etc) everyone gave them at least 4 stars or better so I decided to book a couple’s massage. When I called I was greeted by Mary Jane (who I later found out was the owner) who proceeded to ask me a series of questions to find out the best massages for my boyfriend and I. Satisfied with her customer service on the phone I set an appointment (mind you I called the day before and it was valentines weekend and she did her best to accomodate me). Now I will be completely honest upon arriving at the place I was a little hesitant as it was in the basement of a private house but upon entering the office I felt as if I had stepped into another world… The office was not only cozy and inviting but DEFINITELY not what I expected (she even set out strawberries and chocolate wine for us)… Mary Jane and Erica both greeted us and made sure we felt at home. Erica explained exactly what they planned to do and asked us both plenty of questions to make sure we got exactly what we expected. Not only did Erica and Mary Jane EXCEED expectations but they did so in such a professional warm manner i almost forgot i had had just met them (PS– both my boyfriend and i nodded off during the massages because of how relaxed we felt)
But the silver lining was when I left my debit card and Mary Jane made every possible attempt to reach me by not only calling me from the office but also using her personal cell phone to call me and text me so that I can get my card back in a timely manner (FYI i didn’t even know it was missing till she called me and she said she didn’t want me to think i lost it)
Mary Jane and her staff have set the bar so high I find it very difficult for me ever to go to another massage place ever again and I’ve been to 4 other places. I not only plan to be a repeat customer but I plan to tell everyone and anyone that I know. It truly is a hidden gem in the bronx

The MJ Treatment was an amazing experience. I was able to get away for a massage and facial and this was the perfect place. It was clean, professional and very inviting. Jennifer took care of my facial. She was great and friendly. Her technique was very soft and relaxing and had great insight on what I could do in the in between time before I go back and I WILL be back. MJ gave me a Swedish massage that was exceptional! I left walking on clouds and can not wait to book my next appointment!!! Great job ladies I highly recommend them!

We came across this place on Unilocal.My husband and I went today for a couple’s massage. What a great experience! They were professional and sweet. The massages were amazing, we were both in a daze after. We are definitely going again!

I was looking for a new massage therapist local to home. I took a chance on this location after reading the 5 star reviews about this place. I honestly don’t know what the hype is about. I appreciate that MJ is small business owner, as well as how she converted a small basement into such a nice space with a spa-​like feel, but I felt the quality of the massage was just ok. Not 5 star quality. I would have given an extra star if it weren’t for the weird smell of damp towel that I smelled during the entire massage. It either eminated from the table or possibly the sheets. Either way it did not help relax me. I’ll continue the search for a new massage therapist.

I was referred to The MJ Treatment by family and have had a lot of treatments in the past at different places as a professional athlete. She is by far the best massage therapist I have had. She is a very knowledgable, professional and caring human being. She’s the only therapist I will allow to heal this body lol.

Came for my anniversary. It was defiantly a more homey vibe here than your typical spa. The therapist were very friendly and did a good job on both my boyfriend and I. I would like to bring my mother here one day! Only suggestion I would have is to have a better AC system because it was rather muggy/​humid the day we went. My boyfriend commented on it and I know my mother would too.
Anyway, I really liked the massage I got and would like to come back.

Found on Unilocal of course, was looking for somewhere local (mostly so I won’t reverse my massage on a journey to get back home lol) It’s in a super quiet neighborhood– that day we drove in but train is few mins walk– tons of parking. Surprised that it’s pretty much in a basement but as soon as you go in, beautiful smell, instant relaxing atmosphere made me want to lower my voice instantly lol. Was offered tea and fruit, and my appt was on time! No waiting. I got a deep tissue and foot detox. Both incredible– I love love love it here and they do everything definitely want to try some facial treatments! MJ said they were moving to a store front too, my visit was back in May, they may have moved. But totally come here ladies ESPECIALLY if your local, no need to travel down into the city, queens for great service.

I went here today for a couples massage and I was not dissapointed. I have had many issues with my back because of my line of work and I have never had anyone work on my back that was so on point. She knew exactly where the pain was and worked out those muscles. I have found my new spa and i couldn’t be more thrilled.

What an amazing places this was a birthday and anniversary gift to my husband and he loved it. From the time he walked in to the time we left. They worked on every detail you ask for. They are so nice it’s crazy that this little place is hidden in the bronx and no one know about it yet. People you have to try it thank you Mary jan so much you made this birthday extra special

I found this massage spa on Unilocal and I’m so glad I did. It’s a private practice in the basement of a private house and I couldn’t have asked for a better spa treatment, way better than any larger spa I have been too.
As soon as you walk in, the aura is so relaxing, the lights are dim and you are greeted with a hospitable host. You change into a fuzzy robe and slippers and lounge enjoying strawberries as a tasty treat while you wait.
Once you are taken to the back, the magic happens. My boyfriend and I did a couples massage and you are laid side by side. MJ was my therapist and she performed a phenomenal deep tissue massage with a mixture of soothing oils and scents, taking care of my problematic areas with their exact locations. My boyfriend is a muscular guy and he said he enjoyed his massage as well, from a fellow masseuse.
The next day I felt sore, but a good sore, knowing I actually felt the massage as a therapeutic tool and not just someone rubbing on my skin. And once the soreness subsiding, I felt relief and pain free with my problem areas.
Will be a returning customer in the near future!

Cozy, comfortable and welcoming. That’s the best way to describe this gem of a spa. You are greeted with a warm welcoming smile and enveloped in warmth and calmness. I will be back.

She made me feel relaxed, at home, rejuvenated & the massage was terrific as she expertly located & targeted my problem areas.

Absolutely fantastic. When I walked in, the place was quiet and dark, very relaxing with calming music on. She had prepped a tray with tea, water, and strawberries, and she was geniunely interested in my well-​being.
The massage was excellent; the right amount of pressure and attentiveness. I would HIGHLY reccommend MJ Treatment.

Finally ! A local spa that has everything I need ! I had my first experience yesterday where I was lucky to have MJ herself do a 90 min Swedish massage. From the minute I stepped inside I knew I had found a gem in the Bronx. The décor, aroma, and lighting instantly put me in a tranquil zen state. This spa is cozy, very well decorated and thought out.
My massage was perfect. I asked for medium pressure with concentration on my lower back. I did not have to tell MJ anything more. She did exactly what I asked for.
I highly recommend this spot.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the couples’ massage I received at the MJ treatment! Upon entering my partner and I were welcomed with warm smiles into a very inviting atmosphere. We were offered appetizing snacks including fresh fruit and biscotti and even complimentary red wine! The atmosphere is just serene and the décor is relaxing in itself. This was my first massage and it was nothing short of spectacular, even my partner agreed and he’s a tough man to impress! My masseuse made sure I was comfortable and adjusted quickly when I asked for changes in pressure, etc. I felt like I was floating on a cloud afterwards and I smelled like a delicious chocolate mint. I might be addicted because I definitely feel the need to treat myself again in the near future!

The MJ treatment is my favorite spa in the New York City area and I have been to many top spas and Mary Jane Is one of the best. As a small business she caters to her customers needs unlike corporate or hotel spas in Nyc. I’m a personal trainer and body builder who needs massages several times of month — MJ always hooks up my muscles! I love that she incorporate different types of massage techniques knowing when my body needs it to optimize my muscle recovery. Her spa is very intimate and zen –try the deep tissue and foot detox!!!

So glad I dont have to go downtown for pampering. I think its more bang for your buck compared to city places. Diamond in the not so rough!

Had a wonderful aromatherapy massage with «miracle hands» MJ… this was my very 1^st massage and boy was I nervous! She put me completely at ease and knew exactly where my problem areas were. She has such a calming demeanor and floated effortlessly around the massage table that i actually fell asleep… SNORING! The quaint spa is very zen and I didn’t want to go. I will definitely make this a monthly part of my wellness régime and cannot wait to try out other wonderful services she offers.

I’ve been to many spas, and I must admit that I go to other spa besides TMT. We all seek different things and not every therapist or esthetician is for me, or you. When I look at a new place I do look at reviews just to give myself a heads up if it isn’t up to my expectations. I look at who is making the reviews; I know how some of these sites work and how some are made up to make the company look good or bad. I like to look at how many reviews the person has done and if it is available when they signed up. I am from the Bronx, sad to say but I know some people like to be shady — purchase for one thing and expect more plus freebies. Some of my friends are in the spa industry and say how clients complain that the massage was too soft and only paid for a Swedish massage. If you want deep tissue, pay for it?! I’ve heard stories about clients saying they wanted extractions and only pay for a basic facial. You get what you pay for.
At The MJ Treatment, I think you get more than what you paid for. You get the 1 on 1 treatment. At your first treatment they send you home with a goodie bag and give you the «no pressure» attitude on booking future appointments or products.
Some cons:
— Parking may be difficult depending on what time of day but I have found other places I have gone to be more difficult, not to mention having to pay for parking.
— The outside is a turnoff but don’t judge the book by its cover, this place is a true hidden gem in the Bronx.
— Sometimes appointments can be difficult to book, but I guess that is a good sign that they are busy.
For me, this is the place for me. I can live with the cons. It is worth the price and is convenient for me. I will continue to go and recommend people to go.
