I have been a student of Boston School of Guitar for four years. I took weekly lessons with Spencer Elliott for two years. He was great and I was very concerned when he moved back home to Ohio. After speaking with Jay, the owner, we decided to try Kenneth March. I am now in my second year with him. Although different from Spencer, Ken shares all of BSG teachers’ love of teaching music. He is truly interested in my playing and improvement. Both Spencer and Ken are great players and also have degrees in music; Ken went to Berklee. The focus, however, is to make sure to work on songs I can play, with theory sprinkled in. As a 62 year old man I worried about taking lessons from teachers so much younger than me. Now I worry not. Both teachers have been able to keep me excited about playing. I have surely improved.

Really enjoy lessons here. Jay’s great and very patient. He wants to know your goals and what you want to play. I have tried going to lessons in the past and I think they went about teaching beginners the wrong way. I didn’t want to go and ultimately stopped playing. Now I will finally learn how to play the guitar.

I just started learning guitar. This school made me feel comfortable with the instrument. The teacher(Ken) is excellent, and knows his stuff. He helps each student, and knows what type of learner you are. I would recommend this school to anyone.

Boston School of Guitar is the best! Staff is super friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. Great hours, too– I work long weeks and commute from Cambridge to Brookline and thanks to their flexibility, we worked out a good time to meet. Plus they have a payment plan option that makes it easy to take out small amounts over time instead of putting down one large deposit. I took lessons with Tom Barry — he’s the best! He has a natural teaching style that doesn’t come easily for all musicians. He’ so patient and always has a couple of ways to demonstrate what he’s trying to get across, which I really appreciated because it fosters the development of a unique & comfortable personal style and eliminates the rigid, formal teaching style that only teaches one way to learn something– which is what I experienced in school. I improved a lot, and there was a good balance between learning guitar basics and fundamentals as well as a accruing a range of songs & tabs to take home that I’ll continue to use. Can’t say enough good things about him, and BSOG is lucky to have him there. I’m really happy I did this for myself and it was money well spent !

Boston School of Guitar hands down gets 5 stars. I’m a beginner… and playing guitar has always been on my «bucket list.» so, 6 weeks ago, I signed up for lessons with Jay, and I’m playing more than I ever thought I could. Jay is so laid back, friendly, fun, talented, and encouraging… and he is very willing and eager to customize my lessons to fit my goals. The days of my lessons are ones I look forward to. I am hooked!

I cannot say enough about Boston School of Guitar, and especially Dan Kyzer. I decided to finally take some lessons after playing on my own off and on for years, and am psyched to have found this place. Dan K is not only a fantastically talented player of all genres, but a truly gifted teacher. How can I tell? Well although guitar is not my main instrument, I am over educated in other instruments plus I am myself a teacher with an eye for decent pedagogy. Example: I am learning blues guitar right now. Dan is teaching me technique and scales, etc but we jumped into improv so it’s already way fun. Plus he pulls out and plays examples to make his musical point from ZZ Top to Zeppelin to the Beatles to the Allman brothers to Glenn Miller and BB King. And on and on. But the guy is no show off and for those of you over 35 and/or female, he is not ageist or sexist or on some wack ego trip. Yeah, that matters. The place itself is right in Coolidge Corner and is full of kids and families as well. This place deserves success and if you were ever thinking of playing guitar Just Do It with Boston School Of Guitar.
