The salon was very clean, it’s very convenient as it’s nice to the C train. It wasn’t so busy. Which I liked I had an appointment for 5 with Jaya, once I was there she greeted me and was ready to get started. I wanted a bob, short in the back. I had a photo and Jaya was very precise !!! I absolutely love my hair and it was all thanks to Jaya. She took her time and wanted to make sure everything was perfect. I will definitely go back

I had an ok experience here. As a natural hair salon I expected the stylists to help educate, advocate and nature natural hair. This wasn’t my experience here. I called ahead and booked an appointment with Jaya who was very sweet and articulate on the phone. She asked me a series of questions and we decided on an estimated price for a wash, condition, protein treatment, blow out and trim for my natural hair. About 10 minutes after arriving at the salon, Jaya introduced herself and sat me in her chair where she began to assess my hair. She took one look at my natural hair and asked me if I wanted a texturizer. I was shocked because I thought I had made an appointment with a natural hair salon. No way was a NATURAL hair stylist asking me, after more than 10 years natural, if I wanted to put chemicals in my hair that would permanently damage my beautiful locks. I promptly said no to her question. She asked me again, as if I had misheard her the first time. So I again said, in an even firmer tone, «‘no, I do not want a texturizer.» At that moment I felt a shift within my soul to lower my expectations. At that moment I accepted the fact that I wasn’t going to get the Black is beautiful/African ancestral pride/Natural Hair Inspirational hair care experience. I ended up getting a wash, conditioner and deep condition. She quoted me the wrong price for the protein treatment so I opted out of it and got the deep condition instead. The salon is well kept and clean. None of the stylists had natural hair which surprised me for a natural hair salon. I think the owner must be a legend because reviews seem to love him. I did see gorgeous dreadlocks being done here so I think this is the place to go for lock maintenance. Though I don’t think it was appropriate or right for Jaya to ask me if I wanted a texturizer, she did blow my hair out and give a trim. It felt great afterward and lasted a couple weeks. I just wish I got some of that extra natural hair love I was hoping for.

I go to Jaya at Adore and she is AMAZING! I have short hair that needs frequent maintenance and Jaya’s always there to give me what I’m looking for! For someone who’s always on the conservative side Jaya’s helped me experiment with color, cuts and new styles. The salon itself is very nice, always clean, right next to the C station, and absolutely no ratchets, which is always a plus! Thank You Jaya for always making me look fab!

Meh. I visited there during the holiday rush but they were able to squeeze me in as a walk in. The wait was long. maybe 45minutes but who am I to complain when you –really– need your hair done. I got a teaser of a head massage and I seriously doubt he touched my whole head. I came out looking nice but the experience was lackluster. $$$!

This was a journey for me. having 4c hair I am afraid to let ANYONETOUCHIT but me and my bff-I can kill her if she pulls too hard or forgets to detangle with her fingers lol. But after doing a lot of research, reading reviews. I choose Adore A. I had dreads and decided to pick them out last summer. it took 6 months. It wasn’t fun at all. I had a lot of dead ends but was afraid to go anywhere. But this summer was a year of growth so figured I’d get it cut. I went to Marq after reading so many great reviews about his patience, perfection, and precise-ness. When he washed my hair and massages my temples… I was in love. When he combed out my wet hair… holding it by the root… I knew I found the right place. When he combed my wet hair… I didn’t see much hair on the floor. He didn’t pull or tug. When there were tangled parts he separated the hair and focused on that tangle… he used the comb… But it was ok. He had Marlissa blow dry my hair before he cut it. Once he started cutting he took his time, he was focused and made sure that every cut was precise and even. I love a stylist who is a perfectionist. My cut turned out great I love it and will be going back!

I go to Shireen at Adore. She is a great stylist. I’ll show her a picture of a style I want and she styles it pretty accurately. I get a lot of compliments on my hair when I go to her. She is very gentle with my hair, and it has grown a lot under her care. She shows true professionalism, always responding within a day of your appointment request, and is on time with her appointments. Her prices may be a bit expensive depending on the style you want, but you truly get what you pay for.

Recently moved to Brooklyn from NJ and was in search for a great stylist who knew how to cut hair. Marq is the best! I have a short haircut and my hair is relaxed. He used a sensitive skin relaxer on me which I loved because I burn so easily. His relaxer is great. He listened to what I wanted my hair to look like and went above and beyond! He’s officially my regular stylist!

I have a love/hate relationship with salons since transitioning to natural(last relaxer was 2007). As you can see from my other salon reviews, I have had to wash and blow out my own hair at home after leaving the salon, redo my hair at home with my maxiglide, and I’ve left a salon with wet hair after the stylist was too rough with my blow out. I have fine, tightly coiled, 4a curls that are pretty deceiving. My hair blows out very easily but looks intimidating to those unfamiliar. I find a lot of salons to be too rough with my hair so I don’t use them often. My last salon blow out was 10 months ago and my hair was a frizzy mess before I got home. I decided to give Adore a try after seeing that all the reviews on Unilocal were positive. Some reviews specifically noted that Marq was good with natural hair. Not to mention, Adore is local. I’ve walked past the salon many times and didn’t realize it. I wanted to get my hair blown straight before leaving town for a funeral since I didn’t want to deal with an unpredictable natural style while traveling. I had been wearing crochet braids but took them out a week prior. I called and spoke with Marq a few days prior. Marq inquired about the length of my hair(past my shoulders when straight) and since $ 70 seemed reasonable to me for a shampoo, blow out and flat iron, I booked. I’ve paid $ 40 — $ 60 in the past at various salons including Hair Rules, DryBar, BlowPro and Joseph Tyler. A trim is additional. I don’t generally wear my hair straight so having blunt ends or an even hair cut isn’t important to me. I generally just clip off the ends of my two strand twists as needed. I passed on the trim. I arrived at 1:55 pm for my appointment at 2 pm and got the chance to see Marq styling natural hair. He was finishing up with a client going under the dryer and taking a natural client from the dryer to fluff out her natural curls. I arrived in a 3 day old wash and go style done with Design Essentials honey curlforming custard. I had been wearing my hair in a high ponytail at night(pineapple) so it was a little stretched, to sit almost at my shoulders. Once in the chair, Marq and I discussed my hair goals and my at home routine. I deep conditioned my hair, blow out my wet hair using the tension method or with a Denman brush and then flat iron. Marq washed my hair and gave me a nice scalp massage at the sink. After the conditioner was rinsed and we were back at the chair, he pulled out a wet brush and started to brush out my hair. I was immediately tense and we decided to use a comb. To calm my nerves, Marq explained what he was about to do, which included combing out my wet hair, putting it in two strand twists and sitting me under the dryer for a bit and then blowing out my stretched, partially dry, hair. I had a very bad experience at OMHH Red Room Luxe salon with a blow out on dried hair after sitting under the dryer, so of course I was nervous. However, I decided to stay to see how this technique worked. Marq applied a blow dry cream and twisted my hair. When he hit tangles, he stopped and detangled slowly then went back to twisting. I was under the dryer for a bit, maybe 20 minutes(I wasn’t timing it). After Marq finished curling another client he proceeded to blow out my hair with a paddle brush, undoing one twist at a time. He later flat ironed in small sections and curled my hair. My hair looked lovely when he was done. A stylist in the salon commented about how long my hair was because it looked so short when I arrived, and even shorter after washing. I left in pin curls at 5:40 pm since the weather was awful(still snowing almost every week in NYC). Once I got past being scared, it was a good experience. I told Marq that I will probably be weave checked by a family member this weekend. I guess that is a good thing though. Update 3÷10÷15 My press lasted 4 days. I trimmed my own split ends(strand by strand, not a blunt trim). I washed out it today since it was really puffy at the roots due to sweating. It looked nice at the funeral though. I saw no heat damage after thoroughly checking. I may get another press in the summer or early fall when the heat isn’t on full blast causing me to sweat in my sleep.

Margarita hooked my hair up! I usually maintain my locs on my own, but I was in serious need of help for someone to do my hair. She came through just in time and took no time! Love her upbeat personality and the ambiance inside is very relaxing; the way a hair salon should be to get pampered and come out like a brand new person. Lots willing, I’ll be back in 2 months for style and retwist.

I had my natural 4c(super kinky) textured hair cut, colored, and pressed by Marc and let me just say that he was amazing. He was extremely gentle and patient despite my extreme apprehension. The color and cut looked fabulous and I got a ton of compliments. I’ve also been to Margarita when she worked at SOL so I can testify to her talent as well. Honestly everyone walked out looking great. I would highly recommend this salon.

Came in because my sister actually got her hair done here before and it was blown to the Gods… And take about shine. So I decided to bring my self over and test it out. First off let me say Marq was so welcoming and bright, I wanted to stay and have tea. I returned after making my appointment. Everyone is super friendly. I must say the reason I normally don’t go to black owned salons is because I hate the normal hair salon environment. Normally the hairstylist have attitude and throw shade. I must say pretty sunny here not a shady corner in sight. Marq blew in for my appointment and got right to work. No ohh let me go bake a cake real quick before I start your hair like normal hair stylist. He actually washed my hair. I mention this because the Dominican salons don’t wash your hair. They wet it with soap. He washed every part of my hair as I melted away. He also told me everything we will be doing today, which is a little detail but a neccessary one. A lot of salons do this and add that without asking then charge you for it. Just so you know I am under the dryer as we speak and already posting. Nuff said I know my hair will be great after How can it not be, they all look so we’ll put together. Another detail other hair salons lack. How you want me to trust you to do my hair when you look like a ratchet Bön Qui Qui I’ll be too busy profiling in the square to post this later. Ok I’m back they’re awesome… Marq cut my hair and Tresseme ain’t got nothing on me.

I’ll keep this short and sweet and let the pictures speak for themselves. Margarita Allen is my Natural Hairstylist and if she moves and starts doing hair on Mars I will make an appointment and take a space shuttle to get there. Shireen is excellent and I have nothing but praise for her too. In fact, the shop these sistas work in is really irrelevant because there is no shop unless they are working in it. Nuff said. This is where they are currently located so, do yourself a favor and make an appointment NOW! FYI to the«Hair Divas»: If you are such an expert doing hair that you come into the shop with a bag full of your own products and sometimes even the damn water and you want your locs«palm rolled»(Newsflash: contrary to popular opinion, that is just some pseudo spiritual ploy used to get more money out of your pockets. Trust) or dipped into the waters of Lake Minnetonka or The Dead Sea, then why not do your own hair in your own house? You don’t go to a car mechanic with wrenches and screwdrivers do you? Let the professionals do what they have been trained to do, ok? Geesh Also, this is not BEAUTYSHOP. Queen Latifah isn’t going to be your personal relationship therapist and the lady with a cart isn’t going to come in serving you fish and greens. This is a natural hair salon not a family reunion. Stop watching so many movies. ONE

Ladies ditch these armatures that call themselves«hair stylists» And be prepare to meet your maker! Adore is located in the heart of downtown Brooklyn with the ambiance of a day time Lounge and the comfort of home… Marq the owner and best stylist ever is superb! He knows how to manage all hair types and has unique looks to match each individual. He is very punctual and has an assistant which really speeds up the process so your not in there all day! And ladies! There has NEVER been a time where I walked out of Adore without receiving compliments all the way home. What better feeling than other people thinking you look just as good as you KNOW you look?!

I have had a very hard time finding the perfect salon, most recently visiting Bumble and Bumble but still was unsatisfied with the outcome. A friend referred me to Adore and I instantly fell in love with the staff and the ambiance. I am Italian, constantly changing my look and very difficult to please. I now travel from NJ to Brooklyn to get my hair done due to this little treasure in downtown BK!

WOnderful, inviting & serene atmosphere, not the usual loud gossipy beauty salon. The staff is beyond professional. Now to the good part… my hair is done by the very talented Marq, it’s as if he was born with scissors in his hands, my hair always looks perfect & effortless. I receive many compliments by both men & women everywhere I go. If you’re looking to look beautiful in a relaxing environment, Adore salon is the place for you.

Great salon, very professional staff. I was in and out with no issues. I had my hair done by Tia and she did a great job. I wear my hair naturally and went in for a press and curl. They specialize in natural hair but I saw several women getting weaves and other services and they all looked great.
