I’ll start by saying that I was spoiled with the best pediatric dentist ever for 25 years(yes, I continued to see a pediatric dentist until I was 25– deal with it). That being said, I was unimpressed with Dr Backer. On my first appointment I waited for over an hour and a half to see Dr. Backer. Employees were coming in and out of my room and shouting at one another from the hallway. The office does not feel particularly hygienic: equipment was left on counters and the staff kept leaving the room and coming back in without ever removing or replacing their gloves. It was gross. When I finally met Dr. Backer I had been sitting in the chair for an hour and was not particularly pleased. He was a very nice man and extremely personable but he was not gentle and did not appear to be particularly skilled. I returned to his office a few weeks later to have a cavity filled and it was a terrible experience. He ripped up the inside of my cheek and left my mouth numb for hours after the appointment. While the second appointment was much more speedy(I suggest making a morning appointment) it was also far more painful and just as unhygienic. Needless to say, I will be searching for a new dentist. Kindness does not replace skill.
