Bar Matchless is a great Brooklyn spot by Mccaren park. The music varies from old school rap to heavy rock music. At times it is too loud to really enjoy the experience if you want to talk to someone. The Macaroni and cheese is delicious and on Tuesdays they have a 2 for 1 beer special!

The girl bartender is rude and pours bland drinks. Went there last night and she was unbelievably rude. Last time I am going there.

Budweiser make brain hurt. Fun time with beer. Friends make funny. I laugh. Paul coots leave with dodo. Typical.

Went to Bar Matchless last night and it was so much fun! One of my friends who I just met told me about this kickball league(NYC Social) in Brooklyn so I decided to go. The kickball game was a lot of fun and then we headed down to Bar Matchless for a game of flip cup! All the teams compete one another and it was just a blast. This bar had a whole area reserved for the kickball people, you have to walk all the way to the door that was near the bathrooms. They had a bunch of tables out, people drinking, and mini bars on the sides, and music playing. I had a lot of fun here, I can’t really say much about the other areas of the bar though.

Just an absolute beacon for denim jacket scratchers in flat brim middle America high school Smithsville Panthers hats. I don’t even fault Matchless for that, its just what the scene is in that area & they’ve been around a while now. What I was never a fan of is how crowded & loud this place gets on weekends. I guess they have bands/DJs so if that’s your deal have a ball :) But personally ill pass on amateur hour as it’s just not the most conducive place to hang/drink/converse in extreme decibel levels from a bar once featured on Girls filled up to the gills.

Good is consistently good. I enjoy the late night eats. It is hard to hear anything besides the music. It’s a neighborhood staple.

I almost didn’t try this place due to the«meh» reviews on the brunch food, but I’m glad I changed my mind! The spicy bloody mary is on point and I highly recommend the pulled pork egg benedict with hashbrowns. All of it was very flavorful.

came in for brunch with my girlfriend on a Saturday around 11am. we were seated right away, but after that service was pretty slow. to be fair, our server appeared to be the only one in the house, and had a table of 10 in the other room. I had the biscuits and gravy and my girlfriend had the b.e.c.k. sandwich — both were just ok, nothing too special. really like the vibe here, so I’ll probably come back at night for a drink.

Laid back neighborhood spot with a cool staff, good music and really good Mac & Cheese… also I’ve seen some good shows in the small back room over the years.

Pretty solid bar. I was only here once, to see my boyfriend’s band play a show. Drinks were a tiny bit pricey and they didn’t seem to have many specials going on when we were there. The bar seemed understaffed and it took a while to get a drink or get a bartender’s attention, but it was crowded, to be fair. Overall, it was an okay venue. I liked that there was seating on the sides and the bar was big enough to hang out in. They have this cool little outdoor area that had some heated lighting to make it bearable in the winter. Overall, an A-OK place to check out(as Unilocal would say).

Ok I don’t listen to music, I don’t parse out menu’s and I don’t really care about the bouncers cause I’m coming to your bar after 9pm cause I’m old as hell and I drink in the mornings… so yeah this place is fucking awesome… on an early sunday afternoon there are a lot of plaid wrapped hipsters having brunch, a birthday party for a 3 year old going on in the backroom, and my girlfriend and I sitting at the bar drinking well poured beers watching… no not the Jets game… but Children of the Corn… surreal? yep… fabulous…oh hell yeah… amazing use of space and top notch entertainment and a big thumbs up to our bartender who agreed with me when I mentioned that tossing children in front of moving vehicles, especially in the cornfield is really the way to go. So yeah go to this bar and give them your money and you’ll be happy… unless you’re a dick in which case go to the olive garden and eat breadsticks till you puke… thank you for listening… all rights reserved… batteries not included.

A reliably divey bar(I first went here 10 yrs ago but I don’t really remember it) with a decent beer selection and live bands… it’s an interesting vibe. They had the Mets game on a huge screen, don’t remember that from last time. Add Matchless to your Williamsburg/Greenpoint bar crawl… maybe 10 yrs from now you won’t remember it either!

I go here for brunch whenever I’m in Greenpoint. Prices are good, food is usually delicious, but the service is something to be desired. Matchless sauce paired with their fries is the best. Our group typically sticks with our favorites, and after going to Matchless several times together, we’ve learned there are some items that are in the«basement» and servers are often unhappy to grab. Today, we happened to request BBQ sauce(arguably a common condiment) and was told«we actually don’t serve BBQ sauce at brunch». So… does that mean you have it and just opt not to serve a condiment during a certain time of day, or you just don’t care to walk downstairs? The buns were stale, and our server didn’t check on us until we flagged her down to request a refill. Take it from me, I’m a generally a pleasant customer, appreciative of servers and their attentiveness to customers across the spectrum of unhappiness, but I do expect that if I’m going to throw $ 20+ into a meal, that our server at least stops by our table once after our food has arrived. Today could have been a fluke, as my previous experiences have been great, all in all a nice atmosphere to grab brunch with friends.

Love this place. Great location near G and L train, good food, good live band room. 2-For-1 Tuesdays. Decent drink prices. The sound guy and bartender do a good job. The house drum kit is reasonably well-maintained. Great outdoor patio area for drinking al fresco or for smoking. Good mix of DJs and live bands. Also, they have foosball. Room for improvement: First, thanks for hosting live music and not becoming a sushi bar or overpriced grocery store! On nights when the live bands play, after the show, it would be great if you would let bands leave their gear in the live room while they grab a drink with their friends. Having bouncers kick band members and all their gear out into the main area right after the live music ends only serves to cause traffic jams in the hallway near bathrooms, and drives the musicians away from hanging out at your bar after they play. The longer you let musicians hang out, while our gear remains in the spacious other room, the more money we will spend at your bar. Otherwise, musicians are sort of forced to hop in a taxi and drop gear off at space, before they can set their minds to socializing with friends, potentially at another bar. I know if probably costs $ to pay people to keep that room open all know, just think of it as investing stroller space, but for twenty/thirty somethings. Or investment in supporting local music. Thanks!
Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Man, how have I never reviewed matchless. This place is a list of pros and cons. Pro — 2 for 1 happy hour Con — Cash only and no tabs(seriously?) Pro — Food Con — Not really that good Pro — Cool divey atmosphere with live music Con — Always horribly understaffed and you wait 20m for drinks. All in all it is a solid bar in a good location so I end up here frequently, althought it is far from my go-to.

A cool dive bar right across the street from McCarren Park. I was there to see a friend perform. Never heard of this place until tonight. There are 3 sections of this bar worth noting. The main room has the bar and a few tabletops and a few regular tables, which are along the wall. There was also at least one TV above the bar which on night I went was playing game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals. There is also an «outdoor» area kind of like an outdoor porch area with more tables. It’s gated from the sidewalk but it’s an open fence and the«ceiling» is open too. That means you can actually smoke in a bar, which must be great for the smokers. There’s also another back room with a small stage. There was a cover charge to go in there for the show. There’s also a small bar in that room which came in handy when the main bar got busy. They also serve food here too. I had the Cuban and my friend had the veggie burger. It also came with fries or a salad. For some reason I felt weird getting a salad so I stuck with the fries. There is metered parking right on Manhatten Ave until 7 pm.

Love the area, so maybe i’m a little bit bias. I go there at least once a month with my co-workers for Happy Hour(cash only). Cheap drinks and the kicker is 2 for 1 until 8PM. Really like the casual atmosphere and the bartenders. For the most part the bartenders are really friendly and helpful — primary female bartender is a beauty. Have only had a hard time getting a drink/food when the place is very busy — usually when understaffed. The atmosphere isn’t the most glamorous, but that is expected being in Brooklyn. The music(rock, hard rock) can get a bit louder than necessary, but again this is easily overlooked since the main reason I go is to drink for cheap and socialize with my degenerate friends. The clientele is your typical BK crowd and mostly male dominated during the HH scene. Will be back for more great times with old friends and new!

This is strictly a review for a couple of weekend brunch dishes — We are not commenting on the scene here as we are way over-age for this place and haven’t a clue. Also, we were not drinking so we have no idea what they serve, their price or how they treat their bar customers. The food was far better than we anticipated. My Partner ordered the Bacon, Egg & Cheese Sandwich tomato, scallion & goat cheese scramble, topped with bacon on a ciabata roll & hashbrowns — Thought it was excellent and absolutely loved their bacon. I ordered the Brioche French Toast candied walnuts & bourbon maple syrup which was also excellent but in fact that really should cut back on some of the Walnut topping — it is way too much. BUT Con: We were not all that comfortable sitting at the small table with very high chairs. But even though they were not crowded, they apparently couldn’t make space for us at a typical table. Putting that aside.

Already wrote a review for this and it somehow got deleted :(. So this is not going to be long. I came here for a friend’s birthday and they were really nice and had reserved the back room for us. Unfortunately it felt a little out of the mix of the rest of the crowd but I guess that’s what you get for a private party. Although it was crowded the bartenders worked fast and the drinks were cheap and pretty strong. Fun spot!
