Place needs a total re-do but food is good and service is friendly reminds me of my childhood

Our party of 5 went for Mother’s Day. Generally, I stay away from restaurants on holidays due to the crowds and pre-fix menus. Yesterday, I was reminded once again why this is. We were all disappointed with this meal. Sorry Ma! I had the ceasar salad to start. It was the least flavorful dressing I’ve ever had. I then had the penne ala vodka. This was just okay. Mom had the rigatoni w/portobello mushrooms and didn’t care for it at all. She said the sauce wasn’t a sauce but just a flavorless broth. I then ordered the chicken valdonstana which I didn’t realize came smothered in mushrooms so I swapped with my cousin and had his veal & chicken francese. This was also flavorless and the sauce was almost gelatinous. I forced myself to choke down a few bites and didn’t touch the rest with the exception of the potato croquette. Which wasn’t bad. 300 bucks later we learned that we will not be returning to New Corners again.

Out of all the reviews for this restaurant, I truly am surprised how many 5 star reviews there are. In terms of Italian food in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn there are many better options — like Ginos or Vesuvios. The food here I believe is bland and not fresh. I have been on two separate occasions and each time I was incredibly disappointed. The staff is friendly, but the food was either luke warm or not tasteful. I ordered penne vodka one day and a chicken carbonara the other. Both times I was disappointed. Take it from a native Brookynite — spend your money elsewhere and I can promise you a better meal.

Have been here often and always find they consistently provide first rate customer service and delicious food. They are agreeable to anything within reason. Only problem is the restrooms are small and run down. I would suggest they redo their restrooms but still give it 5 stars because of consistently excellent food and service

I’d been here on numerous occasions and though at one time the food was very good, I’ve noticed on more than one occasion that the quality has gone done. Everything I order comes with an oily breadcrumb coating on top. Sadly, I’ve started going elsewhere for my Italian food.

Noisy with bland mediocre food. The other members of our party were seated and we were told no one had arrived yet and sat in the waiting area for 15 minutes. My veal Marsala over angel hair was totally bland and the veal was a bit dry. Asked for two different desserts and they ran out of both… On a Saturday night at 9:00 pm. No parking lot or valet. Diners beware.

I don’t understand some of the negative reviews. This is old school Italian food @ it’s best! Flounder oreganato, Veal Parmigiano, sauce & cheese, escarole, potato croquettes, OFFTHECHARTSDELICIOUS! It is true, the bread is not served warm, while I didn’t, you can ask them to warm it for you. They have booths, which to us is a major plus. We didn’t have any drinks, but the menu gives you the prices of the booze, and they are VERYREASONABLE! Since we didn’t have any drinks I can’t say if they’re generous or not. The wait staff, and management are very attentive, & if you ask for anything while eating, it is brought to the table almost immediately. The food isn’t served piping hot, which is OK with me. If you like your food piping hot, just tell them. They are very accommodating. Men’s room is spotless. We loved this place, & will definitely be going back.

Most amazing meal. Haven’t eaten here in over 20 years and on my recent trip to New York with family and friends decided we wanted a true Italian meal not a tourist trap in the city. We all had the Baked Clams which were wonderful. The Veal Parmesean was the best I have had in years. So glad we came here.

Didn’t know this place wasn’t ACTUALLY called«New Corners» until I just found it on Unilocal. Fantastic, authentic Italian food. Incredibly kind waiters who have worked there forever. A New York staple, really. The menu is extensive, so I’d recommend the frito misto appetizer(definitely good for 2+) and the chicken valdostana… I might’ve ordered something else once or twice, but those are always my go-to. If you want the full experience, don’t forget to play some lotto while you’re waiting for your food.

I should start by saying that I have not ever been a huge fan of Italian restaurants for the simple reason that, well, I find the food just okay. You know, it’s pasta, cheese, red sauce, and a protein. I found it interesting when reading the previous reviews of Colandrea New Corner that most of the higher ratings were based on quantity, not necessarily quality. So all that said, let me dig in here. The place has the type of charm you would expect form a neighborhood eatery that has survived more than 70 years. I liked that. The wait staff was all very friendly and our service was fine. The menu is substantial. For me, too large. I’d rather see about a dozen entrée choices that a dozen per category: pasta, fish, chicken, veal, meat, vegetable. And it is full of all the traditional things you would expect, and I guess want to see in a traditional Italian restaurant. Knowing that my main course would likely be large enough to serve all four at our table, I decided not to get an appetizer. The other three in the party ordered house salads. For dinner, I went with spaghetti in garlic and oil with a side of their famous meatballs, two baseball sized meatballs in traditional red sauce. Everyone else order shrimp parmigiana. The food came in the proper amount of time and yep, the plates were massive… at least two servings per dish. I know some people LOVE that. It’s not something that impresses me, unless the food is something truly special. My spaghetti was… okay. The meatballs I found bland and dry. The red sauce they were in was… okay. And that sums up my whole experience. It was… okay. But if I am going to turn over $ 90.00(two dinners, wine, and tip) of my hard earned money for a dinner out, I just want more than okay. I want special. Memorable. A little explosion in my mouth. Not here. Here you will get… okay.

Excellent old school Italian food and atmosphere. A huge menu that never disappoints, and affordable lunch specials as well! We’ve been going there for years for family functions and meals alike, love it!(Plus you can play quick draw while you eat!)

honestly very dissapointing for me. I normally don’t like to cause trouble for restaurants but last night was unacceptable. first of all, to get to the dining room, you have to walk through the bar area. we were sat in a dusty room with an TV that showed bingo/lottery which was a bit weird for me. our appetizers weren’t that great and were cold and came out 30 minutes late. I ordered chicken with prosciutto and Parmesan and although it tasted good, the plate was very sloppy and they give you a lot of food. I only had 4 bites of chicken before I was full and I did not fill up on the cold bread btw. my glass was dirty and the atmosphere was all tight and darkish. the air was very warm and it was unbearable to eat warm food in that type of atmosphere. the waiter took so long to bring our check that we just paid up front. all in all, I didn’t have huge expectations for this place from the start. I went there for a special occasion and I had never been there and it was the worst experience I could’ve had. the bus boys were great and helpful, the service otherwise was mediocre at best.

Let me just say, we wound up here due to a gift card. There to celebrate a birthday, it wasn’t a good experience. You walk through a bar where they bet on lottery to get to the dining room, then sit down in a dingy, smoke-smelling room. Our table ordered fried calamari, baked clams, and fried mozzarella for appetizers. The calamari was squishy and not crispy. The clams were alright. The fried mozzarella was mediocre, even Sonic does them better. For dinner I had the tortellini carbonara, which was unusually salty. There’s pepper on the table, the fresh-cracked sits on a shelf out of reach, and isn’t offered. One upside is they leave parmesan on the table. The vodka sauce was watery, Ive had better from a jar. Long story short, their AC went out, and they offered to move the largest party to another room first, slowly offering the others in our section the same. At this point, our last drinks were ordered and we were hoping to be out before the 10min wait for our new table was up. We weren’t. Coffees came, and the ice cream cake we BROUGHT to the restaurant followed. The staff sang happy birthday and then left our table. With no plates or silverware, nor a knife to cut the cake. We sat in an room with NOAC and an ice cream cake for minutes before the manager came to check on us. She ordered a girl to take the cake to the back and cut it. She left, but came back with another table’s order. It was not a busy evening. A waiter stood in the back of our room doing nothing this whole time while the girl served another table. She then returned with the half melted pieces of ice cream cake. In hindsight, we should’ve ordered pizzas and stayed home with the cake. I felt sorry for our birthday girl. We wont be returning to spend the last $ 50 on our gift card.

«New Corners» as my family affectionately refers to it, is a New York institution. I’ve been to more Communions/Showers/Confirmations/Birthdays/Holiday Meals, etc., etc. at «New Corners» than I could possibly ever remember. But, what I always remember is the delicious Italian food. In fact, the common denominator has always been a great meal and good family atmosphere. I’ve literally had every single menu item at one time or another and I’ve never had a bad plate of anything! Top notch Italian(pro tip: best baked clams in the city). Last time I was there I noticed that the entire staff went out of their way to coddle some Asian girl who falsely accused the employees of being racist and prejudiced. Everyone in the restaurant laughed at this girl for being so ridiculously insecure and touchy. The staff was so nice to her. My review is completely focused on my experience with this wonderful business! Have a great day, everyone!

Our waiter was wonderful, on top of it, just great. We really enjoyed ourselves. We had a lovely dinner. I look forward to going back. An NYC gem. We ordered the calamari, stuffed mushrooms, baked clams, stuffed pepper, and fried zucchini for appetizers and all were delicious. Veal parm, chicken parm, veal chop, raviolis and stuffed chicken breast were ordered and really, everything was very good. The tartufo for dessert was excellent. I can’t wait to go back and this time hang at the old bar!
