I’m proud to be Filipino, and that’s from mi corazon. Forgive my mixing of these two ethnicities(though my people are a combination of Spanish and native islanders… resulting in some damn good looking hybrids), but that comes from the heart, and the creations from Corazon is an amalgamation of the Philippines and some Latin American. And dare I say, when you combine a little Filipino into anything, the end product just simply turns out better than before. This fundamental rule of nature applies to EVERYTHING, from culture, to food, to… other things(we make the best hybrid b***es, extra points for code cracking!!!)! Corazon is the passion project of Mike Mora, and to my fortune I was able to sample some of the creations that he pumped out of his pop up venture at Trophy Bar the other night. Pork is the star of the show as far as I could taste, and I would not have it any other way. The ridiculously reasonable offerings by Corazon at their pop up that night night were vegetarian tacos(a hit), nachos w/cheese, herb mayo, Sriracha, etc…(a hit), and their pork offerings in the form of tacos and a split bun sandwich(muh jams). Unfortunately I wasn’t able to partake in the veggie tacos… additionally, with cheese being the bane of my existence, I declined the nachos at their fullest… picking around the cheesy bits(though the presentation on both were colorful and bombastic). The pork got me hooked though. Whichever way the meat was marinated, it was a master work… I had one and a half sandwiches and had a nice big bite of the pork tacos. I was so hyped on what I ate, it put me on overdrive all the way on my bike ride back from Brooklyn to Astoria. I’m happy to report that they’ll be popping up again at Trophy Bar in August! Spread the word.

I had the pleasure of experiencing this tasty pop-up at Trophy Bar — what a treat! The menu is eclectic and original. Everything was so full of flavor, texture, and color — definitely not what I was expecting for an inexpensive bar taco. I also tried the noodles and salad dish, which were super delicious as well. I’m definitely looking forward to trying everything else here! Yummm!!!

I was in town for a concert and stopped in for a drink and some food. I ordered everything on the menu and shared with a friend. Hands down my favorite dish was the noodles. They reminded me a little of Yuji Ramen’s noodles. For a dish without a lot of meat(rest assured there are Niman Ranch bacon bits), the sauce really stands out — sweet, savory, spicy, complex. My friend and I ended up eating 3 servings! The pork shoulder and maque choux tacos are among the most flavorful tacos I’ve had. All of the dishes have thoughtful, unique combinations of flavors. For it being opening night, I thought the service was great. I placed my order(everything on the menu remember), went to get a drink at the bar, came back and it was ready. I wish I could come back for the rest of the nights. The chef told me that he plans to change the menu a little each time. Hope he keeps the noodles!
