I wanted to update my review just to say how sad I am that this place closed. I had dropped my last updated review to 3 stars for legitimate reasons, but am raising it back up to 5 as a final memorial. When I was a regular customer I found the owner to be charming and engaged with her customers, and I have a lot of extremely fond memories of coming here. I hope she does well in the future, because despite its flaws I really did enjoy both the food and my experiences.

Think it may have closed? They haven’t picked up the phone in the last two weeks. Eclipse, how I pine for thee.

had the chorizo burrito and it was awesome! gf had the vegetarian combination platter(which I sampled) and it was also quite tasty. This will definitely be one of our go-to neighborhood spots for sure.

Big value for your money. No salsa in the table, just Tapatio sauce from California. That will disappoint the inner Mexican gourmand in you. Nice staff. The Mexican fly killers(i. e. the plastic bags filled with water) will bring memories of taquerias in Mexico City. Morir soñando is the perfect drink to go with whatever you order.

Eclipse was worthy of four and a half stars. Service was slow. Food choices and quality were excellent. Prices very affordable and fair.

This is a go to spot in Sunset. Food is huge portion and really good price. They have a back yard providing a park slop feel. Definitely going back here again.

Second choice because Tacos Matamoros on 5th Avenue at 45 street was closed by the NYC Health Dept but a great find. It was elegant yet a great neighborhood place. Good sized portions and the food was prepared just a bit different from the standard preparations of Mexican food. Don’t miss the sangria pitcher full of fruit and sweet wine. So happy to have discovered this place.

Eclipse has to be one of my favorite restaurants around. My best friend and I discovered it about 3 years ago when we were living in the area. It became an addiction for us. Now that I’m living across Brooklyn I still do everything in my power to go to Eclipse. In fact the world Eclipse is banned from my apartment. It simply makes everyone TOO hungry!!! Lets start out with the décor. It’s absolutely wonderful. The yellow walls are so warm. The back patio is great in the summer time and offers double the amount of seating. The woman’s bathroom has stunning lighting! The art if simple but nice. Now the food. I was surprised to find a Spanish place in a Spanish neighborhood with a specifically vegetarian menu and TOFU! Boy, was I surprised when the tofu blew my mind! I haven’t tried the steak or pork but all of the people whom I have brought here and tried it, loved it. I can’t remember if I have tried any of the fish. Their dishes with chicken are good but it’s so easy to stick with all things vegetarian! Their sopes with black beans and guacamole are one of my favorite dishes. The tofu mole burrito is supreme. My bestie and I always order two meals and split them. I highly recommend it. You definitely need to try a little of everything! I first heard of cubetazos(bucket of beer!) at this restaurant. Their cubetazos are decently priced and they have a good selection of beers. The sangria rocks; soooo much fruit! The aqua frescas are yummy. They also have a beautiful espresso machine. I ordered a hot chocolate one time and it was good. I just wonder if the staff knows how to use the machine properly… I’ll have to find out. The food delivers well. When I lived there I was able to call, say hello and have them tell me they knew the order and it would be right over! The waiters and waitress are friendly. They are all fluent in English and Spanish. I’ve met the owner several times and she is a wonderful woman. The wait for food is never too long. And the prices are pretty damn good! I’ve gone with a group of about 10 people and spent about $ 140(with drinks!). EATHERE!!!

I so badly wanted to like Eclipse. To start with the good, they do have an adorable back patio during the warmer months that is quite nice. I’ve been a few times and found myself enjoying it, at least much more so than sitting in the restaurant itself. But let’s be honest, the food is not that good. It tastes like they dowsed their chorizo in sugar and it ruined my tacos. The second time I got a burrito, but it was so big and blah and came with nothing else. There are so many great restaurants on 5th avenue, and while Eclipse might have them all beat in atmosphere, the food is so-so at best.

I’ve been struggling with my rating for Eclipse for awhile, but I think I’m finally ready. The restaurant itself is adorable if a bit sparsely decorated and also offers a homey back patio. The service is always friendly and attentive. We enjoy going to Eclipse because of the ambiance, but have struggled to find dishes we really love. The brunch is a great deal, and has probably some of our favorite dishes(like the Huevos Rancheros!). The dinner menu is also affordable, but nothing really jumps out at me. The guacamole and aguas frescas are my favorite things to order, and if I’m hungrier I’m likely just to get the tacos. Our friends who have ordered entrees here seemed to enjoy them, including the whole fish, though we typically stick to the burritos/tacos. I really want to love Eclipse more. The vibe is excellent, but the menu could use some punching up.

This is one of the best brunch deals I’ve seen in Brooklyn. Came here with a friend who’s been coming here and ordering take-out for years. The place was practically deserted, but this suited us well as we had a 1 ½ year old in tow, who got to have a good run of the back patio while we sipped beer($ 16 for a bucket of five) and casually perused the menu. At first glance, not entirely authentic, but satisfying Mexican-American food. At a second, the prices(brunch for $ 6) are incredible for the amount of food. When I think about the middling huevos I’ve had for twice the price at some kind of pretentious brunch places in Park Slope, it’s an unbelievable deal. And there is actually a lot of interesting stuff to be sampled, besides the standard nachos, quesadillas and burritos. I had the chilaquiles with green salsa and eggs, topped with sour cream and cheese. This was delicious. The green salsa had that perfect tang from the tomatillos and cilantro, just enough heat against the grainy sweetness of corn tortillas and the cool sour cream. I love this dish. Our table ordered a side of nopal, grilled cactus, which was interesting, and fresh from a Mexican market in Sunset Park. I also had a cucumber juice, and sipped someone’s horchata. Very sweet, but a nice dessert of sorts to go with a savory brunch menu. Overall, a satisfying meal that cured all my brunch-related cravings.

I went here after a meeting and I was HUNGRY. I got the Mole Poblano. I had white meat chicken with it. The chicken was bland but I liked the mole. Liked… but I wish the flavor was more rich. I was expecting the mole to have deeper and more complex flavors. It was a little more bland than what I would have liked it to be but it was okay. I would try other things here. I just dont live nearby. I liked the atmosphere. A date here is okay. The walls are colorful. It’s clean in there. The staff was really nice to me. I was STARVING! I mean… meeting til after 9pm? Holy toledo! So anything at that point would taste really good!!! Every time I have tried a mole I have been a bit disappointed but from what I understand, good mole in NYC is hard to come by but what do I know?! I am Chinese!

One and a half stars. Wow, you Unilocalers really let me down with this one! Was in the area and hungry and thought I could rely on my folks to get me a good meal… NO. I don’t understand how one could make Mexican food so bland but even tons of hot sauce could not rescue my huevos and my spouse’s quesadilla was soggy and undercooked… really? Anyway, five stars? Hell and NO, wth guys! I mean if you’re super hungry and carry spices in your pocket like old grandmas, then sure but just don’t go expecting anything beyond mediocrity.

This spot is not a first date place. Its not bad it’s clean and cute. The food is cheap which is a total bonus. The food is also solidly mediocre hence the low prices. This is a very Americanized Mexican place. I’m guessing since it is in Sunset Park that’s the only reason Mexicans would come here to eat

Just ate here for the 1st time — I had the mole chicken burrito — best burrito I ever had — ever! My girlfriend had the steak fajitas and she said they were excellent. The flan at this place is from another world — deeelish! LOVE the back patio and the staff were very nice. I think this place is a bargain and the food is awesome. I will definitely be returning here.

ok. I get back from Mexico yesterday, and what do I have a craving for today on this beautiful carbon copy weather of Mexico day.(a little less humid), YUP… Mexican food. but NOW, I know what Chuleta, and Batidas means, so I take my short subway ride there to the 45th street stop. Walk in the door, and the same scene exists from my last review. Just like I never left. Including the beautiful and well behaved infant in her car seat on the floor, with its full head of hair and gentle smile. Hmmm… a little warmer now, so I have options, Outside in the back, or inside. I opt for inside, and order the pork chop(chuleta) lunch special for $ 5, and my Vanilla Shake(Battidas). Same wonderful presentation as before, only this time, 4 nice slices of thin, but wonderfuly cooked, and light on the bone pork chops. AMAZING actually for $ 5.(same rice and beans too, which is awesome too) My $ 3 Vanilla shake is like they do. Thin on the ice cream, heavier on the milk. Actually such a refreshing discovery for me. I’ve been wasting my time sucking ice cream from a straw, when all I really just want on a hot day is a thinner ice milk like drink, and it was always hidden in this word Batidas!!! I’m thinking I’ll probably be witnessing this kid graduate High School, and boom, before you know it, they’re a citizen of the world. If that kid ever needs a recommendation for Pizza, she’ll travel a few stops the other direction on the subway to Bay Ridge! Go here people… if you can… for lunch.

OK– so I was prepared to be disappointed by this restaurant, but was thankfully surprised. I’ve been burned by the other«fancy» Mexican place in Sunset Park– Maria’s Mexican Bistro– that place is friggin’ awful… never go there. I’ve lived in Sunset Park for almost two years and have been maybe 20 taco shops, and the general rule is the nicer it looks, the worse the food is. I’m from San Diego originally, and take Mexican food pretty seriously, but was more than satisfied with this little place. I went there with the ol’ ball and chain for brunch this last Sunday, and had the delicious(and cheap!) huevos rancheros. My gf had the breakfast burrito, which was one of the best I have ever had. The service was great, and as I mentioned already, the bill was cheap. What’s there not to like? I am going to go back soon to Eclipse to continue my journey to find a decent carne asada burrito in New York, though again, I’m not holding my breath.

Best Restaurant in Sunset Park by far. Nice atmosphere, great food, great service and 6 beers for $ 11! Try the chicken alambre — you will not be disappointed! Even the Cats Pee wine tasted good… oops Cats Phee!

I love this restaurant. Definitely the best place to get brunch near me. I always get the two eggs with bacon, home fries, and toast — and it is delicious, wonderfully presented, and always fantastic. I’ve had non-brunch food from here as well — their burritos are giant, and tasty, and I plan on giving the burgers a try as well. I’ve always had great service, and the décor is cute — definitely the nicest place on the block. Anyway, if you’re looking for a good restaurant around Sunset Park, go here. It’s awesome.
