How can you possibly serve a bad chicken salad? I defenitelty wanted to give this place a try but was very dissapointed. My salad was drenched in water and practically looked like a water soup. To top it off I ordered two orders. I didnt even bother to call to make a complain because it was very noticable that who ever prepared this knew exactly what they were doing. Never again!

I suppose I am giving this three stars because I really don’t think it deserves the 1.5, which it got mostly from deliveries(why people get delivery in NY is something I do not understand now or hope to understand in the future… just walk). Anyway, this is a dimly lit restaurant with a pretty big menu of Ecuadorian food. The food was acceptable, although I don’t think I would reorder the entrée that I had. It was composed of fried pork sausage, hominy, and eggs. Everything was relatively good except for the pork, which was extremely dry. My girlfriend had a soup with seafood, and she thought it to be pretty good. The portions are quite large, so any meal here is enough for two meals. We also got plantains with cheese, which were tasty. The batidos, however, were not the best things in the world. I am not sure if there is better Ecuadorian in the neighborhood(I have only been to the food truck, which wasn’t bad at all), but this food was fine. Maybe I’ll try the goat stew or something next time.

I tried this restaurant through GrubHub. I have had excellent Ecuadorian(?) food and this was certainly not it. The experience was lacking. It took an hour and a half for the order to get here even though there are a little over a mile away from me. I had to contact groupon and they then was stumped because of the language barrier. Groupon tried thie best but ended up giving me $ 10 in free Grub. Delivery lady shows up and she keeps telling me she’s outside. I’m like come it. It’s a business with a reception area that clearly indicates you can come in. I walk to the front entrance and she’s like she can’t come out her car. I happen to glance into the backseat and notice she came to deliver my food with a child in the back. I’m stuck because I’m the only on answering the phone and therefore can’t walk too far and she can’t leave the child unattended. Then she started getting flustered and I took the bag so she could leave… After all of this the food was bland in comparison to get the food. The Empanadas are edible. For the size the price is right. However, it’s abit bland. The Plaintains weren’t sweet and they smelled of stale oil. They were cut into huge peices. And was not palatable at all. The arroz con pollo was rice with sazon and frozen peas and carrots and overnight roast chicken. All in all, not somewhere I would eat again.

Swill. Need I say more. And the non-English speaking delivery guy needs training on how to properly open a door. For an idea of what it was like watching him check out Borat’s doctor visit scene on YouTube.

Having spent a month in Ecuador I was eager to eat at El Sol De Quito and now I have no hankering to return. Maybe I left disappointed because I’m spoiled and know what good Ecuadorian food should taste like. Whatever the case, the food was mediocre at best. I wished I would have liked it since this place is less than two minutes from my apartment, but alas, I won’t return. The portions are pretty big, but it’s like getting a heaping portion of not-very-tasty food. This place doesn’t seem to be very non-Spanish friendly, so be prepared to point to the menu or devise some other mode of communication if you don’t have a cursory knowledge of Spanish.
