My review is only for my experience at the bar. Bartender was not so pleasant and drinks were too pricey. I had come from Manhattan where i paid 15 for two martinis and martini here was like 14 for one which I thought was pricey for Brooklyn and double scotch was 24. It would have been great if they had some type of happy hour. My martinis did not even taste good have definitely had better. I will give this place another try during dinner and see how their food is and hopefully their waitresses are pleasant.

I think this place doesn’t get the credit it deserves. My friends and I gave it a shot because someplace else was too busy and we weren’t sure how it would be. To our surprise, it was EXCELLENT! It’s loud but it’s great. We’ve gone back two other times and every time was 5 stars. Waiters and waitresses are on point. We’ll be back soon!

One really has to search for bad Italian food in Brooklyn especially in bay ridge; well look no further here it is. We can start with the bread, a pale stale loaf served with not so much as a pat of butter and would not be found in the dumpster of Costco. I went with 3 others and one member of my party was served wine in a soapy glass(bubbles forming on top of the wine and in the glass). We shared two salads one being the grilled octopus salad which was so overly salted and the octopus so over cooked it had the consistency of over cooked chicken. 3 of us had seafood with pasta(either mussels or clams) which was actually irrelevant as the shells were mostly empty. When it came time for dessert we decided to try the special mousse«cake» which after 10 minutes we were told was actually served in a cup. It took over 20 minutes for us to receive one of the 2 we had ordered then told the kitchen would make a second which subsequently was«given away» to some other table … The one highlight of the meal was the waiter an incredibly sweet and super apologetic guy. This place is a definite skip.

We landed at this restaurant after by-passing an hour and a half wait on a Saturday night at two nearby restaurants. We were pleased to come in out of the cold and get a table within 2 minutes. However once we were seated there was such an absence of service! Our table of four waited over 20 minutes to be handed menus. We had to call the host(sloppily dressed in jeans and a hoody) over a few times– to request a wine list, to order a bottle and to retrieve our waiter. Our waiter ended up being gruff and unapologetic. We were served throughout the evening by a smattering of waitstaff(whomever we could grab) and continued to have to ask the host to order the next bottle. I couldn’t complain about the food– my rack of lamb was delicious. But don’t bring a date here, or anyone else you’d like to impress! Next time I’ll remember to make a reservation and go to Cebu. Or even better, Petit Oven.

Excellent food and service. I had the risotto with veal and it was amazing. Gelato chocolate cake was off the chain! Definitely coming back. Our waitress was very accommodating. I’m from LA in town visiting family and I’m beyond stoked they brought us here!

Let me start by saying our server Jackie was the best!!! The food was outstanding. The Burrata was delish. Also the chicken Milanese was great, very large portion. A little advise, if going there allow extra time to find a parking spot. Living on Long Island, not used to hunting for a spot to park. It was well worth the trip from Wantagh, as i said service and the food were great

Nice atmosphere when you walk in, a bar and a few tables. Go into the back of the restaurant and there are many more tables, along with a few TVs for the sports lovers. Elegant ambiance, and great service. Started off with the calamari, and it was really good. Came with a lightly spiced sauce that was perfect. Bit on the pricey side($ 15). On to the entrees. I had a rigatoni with sautéed eggplant, cherry tomatoes, in a spiced tomato sauce. Pretty damn good. Definitely add a protein, I’d recommend the shrimp, which was grilled to perfection. My mother ordered the fettucine with garlic sauce and grilled shrimp. She enjoyed it. Dessert was a tartufo which was eh, ok. This was a good meal. Will come back.

I cannot say enough good things about Grotto! As a person that’s very strict with my diet it’s very hard to come by a restaurant that meets my every need. Marissa is fantastic, she remembered me from our first visit and what my dietary needs are. They go above and beyond to accommodate me and my fiancée! We will be back many more times!

A place in Bay Ridge that understands hospitality. The service is excellent and food, fantastic. The Fagoli is one of the best I ever had, and Spicy Grotto sauce rivals all in the surrounding area. Specifically those thief’s on Mulberry street.

Came to grotto after someone in the area suggested their food was amazing and I was not disappointed! We came here wanting to try out the food before booking our rehearsal dinner and we immediately were blown away. We met Eddie at the bar and his service was amazing(coming from Williamsburg we have high expectations) … Once he learned that we were shopping around for our rehearsal dinner, he immediately brought out food for us to try and we were blown away. Wine = served in huge glasses. Food = amazing Service -= like none other in bay ridge!!! Definitely worth a try!

We stopped on for a late night meal. What a great place. I had the baked shrimp and baked clams. They were so fresh and baked perfectly. I then had pasta with eggplant. The eggplant was awesome. The sauce was a spicy tomato sauce which was great. There was plenty of food. The drinks were great also. The wait staff is so nice. The bar tender made the drinks fast and they were perfect. It was busy inside so we waited a little for the food but it was well worth it. Price was great. I will coming here more often. Keep up the great service and food.

We just dropped in here with our daughter as we were looking for a car. It was pretty quiet in there so I was initially reluctant, but the combination of $ 5 kids pasta, some good beers and sports on TV swung me(not to mention her mum was over looking for places!) Man, am I glad that we did! THE friendliest staff, all of them showered my daughter with time, compliments and attention. Nothing was too much for them, amazing service. The food was amazing, I had the chicken parm and it was the best I’ve had in years. My daughters food was handmade chicken pieces, not out of a packet or processed. That’s a big deal for me. They could accommodate any request and my wife’s seafood pasta was great. Overall a fantastic experience, I’d come back for the parm and am planning purely for the pork tenderloin version!

Just moved to the area and this place has become a family favorite. The place is cute as can be and plays the absolute best music :) the service is hands down the best… They almost make you feel like family. Every dish we’ve had here tastes like it was made from scratch… My kids love their ravioli and my hubby and I can’t get enough flog their salmon. Must try!

When I heard my wife’s friend was celebrating her birthday at Grotto, I readied my towel and speedo! When I heard this was said friend’s family’s Italian restaurant interiorly designed to replicate the façade of a romanticized cave I decided to leave my towel at home… The front 1⁄3 of the restaurant appears as an upscale sports bar, stocked with liquor, pub tables and several large LCDs with MLB on the program. The next section has several Grotto-style semi-enclosed tables ideal for couples or small groups. Lastly the rear of the restaurant provides space for large groups. My experience here was in context of a large group(15+) dinner we shared family style of random selections curated by the chef. Hot/cold antipasti, pasta with cherry tomato sauce/pecorino cream sauce, pan seared salmon etc prepared as components(e.g. filet mignon minus the sides.) of their more conclusive menu offering Despite our group preparation being muted compared to their standard menu, the experience of quality and freshness of ingredients spoke volumes. Similarly, service was attentively frequent and friendly. I would gladly make a return visit to sample the menu which appears to couple traditional Italian cuisine with modern, eclectic touches.

I really wanted to like this place. Bay Ridge is rapidly changing from an Italian and Irish town into a middle eastern/Muslim community so when I saw a fairly new Italian restaurant open in the area I was excited to give it a try. Major disappointment due to the absolutely horrible service. The waiter was a joke. Slow beyond belief, screwed every aspect of the entire order up. Then icing on cake was when he over charged by 40%. Then he adjusts the bill and gets it wrong again. We were so disgusted with the bad service we didn’t even order coffee or dessert. We just wanted to leave. Gave it 2 stars only because the food was pretty good. The place in its current trajectory will not last more than another year at best unless it gets it’s wait staff in order.

My family and I have endured a rough year and wanted to take our Mom out for a special Mothers day. We are so glad we chose Grotto. Mom said it was her BEST Mothers day celebration ever and that is high praise from Mamma. We were immediately greeted at the door by the incredibly personable staff… Carlo is especially sweet. We were seated at a beautiful open air table with plenty of fresh air and sunshine. Our server Marco could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Jeff makes the best Bloody Mary in NYC and takes pride in his work. The menu is creative, original and inspired. I can personally recommend the salmon, the grilled octopus and yes. get a Bloody Mary from Jeff. The atmosphere, the layout, the high ceilings, the roomy tables. all a big plus in my book. Reasonable prices, delish food and warm, attentive staff tells me I am coming back for more.

Not the greatest menu. Not the best food. Not the fastest service. But the effort deserves an A++. Manager Eddie quickly and graciously goes out of the way to correct the kinks that this new place obviously has to work out. I will definitely be back. The area needs a new place and I’m just really hoping Grotto can pull it off.
