My hair turned out great as I got small box braids. The only down side was the amount of time it took. I cut my hair into a Mohawk and the sides are shaved pretty far up my head. My style took six hours to the point it took the owner or head stylist to come over and assist so it wouldn’t go over six hours. I would recommend going to the main stylist as she speaks the most English. It was also super hot, with one floor fan trying to cool the entire salon. Otherwise, I continue to receive awesome comments about the results!

I came here as a braid newbie and decided to get Senegalese twists. The price was reasonable and the amount of time it took was also reasonable(6 hrs). They were a little tight the first few days, but loosened up nicely. I am giving 3 stars mostly for my experience. This is my fault because of inexperience, but I wanted to warn others and tell them BRINGYOUROWNHAIR! I experienced an allergic reaction to the hair that was provided by the shop shortly after getting the twists and had to remove them. A shame, because they turned out really nice!

I have a confession. I’m cheating on my natural(don’t you dare judge.) I want you to know that I absolutely love my natural hair. I find maintaining it to be a labor of love, but let us be real, this is one high maintenance love affair! My hair is incessantly needy — wash me, condition me, moisturize me, comb me, love me, braid me, twist me — and completely exhausting. So every now and then, my hair and I take a little lovers break, in an effort to retain the spark. With spring coming and my vanity driven addiction to the gym(I need to be short shorts ready) I decided that it was the perfect time to trade in the thick, unruly, curly fro for some sleek, sexy, obedient box braids(«how you doing?» a la Wendy Williams) — and thanks to Nene’s African Hairbraiding… I’m video ho’ ready. Nene’s resides in the heart of Bed Stuy and they open early, which(if you’ve ever experienced the 5+ hour turmoil of getting your hair braided you know) is a godsend. I arrived at 9AM armed with two packages of straight human hair and my lady braider was just opening up shop. I wanted invisible braids, braided just past my natural hair and then knotted. She quoted me a price of $ 120 which is slightly more than I would have paid if I went up to Harlem, but alas I was super lazy that morning. I didn’t haggle, because I just wanted to get started, but my advice would be to give them a price you’re comfortable with(actually slightly lower than you’re comfortable with) and negotiate to a midpoint. It works. By 10am a second lady braider entered the shop and joined in to tackle my thickness(pause). She pitched in for about 40 minutes until a second customer came in. At around 12pm a third lady braider arrived and pitched in until about 2pm. I was done — braids braided, knots knotted, flyaways clipped, and sheen applyed — by 3. Point of the story: I went in as Nefertti and came out as a Kardashian. Okay, so that’s a seriously overdramatic representation on both ends of the spectrum, but whatever. I felt fly as hell leaving and I was very happy with the service(check my profile pics for the end result). Tips: * Friendly staff(they let you take breaks as you need them) * Clean Bathroom * Walk-ins appreciated * They do lots of different styles and have hair for those on a budget. However, you get what you pay for, so if you want a high-quality look — buy your hair and bring it with you.
