We eat at La Palina a couple of times a month and have been for years. The quality of the food is excellent and the service is terrific. The portions are enormous and the leftovers are just as good the next day! Try the baked clams, the fried calamari, the chicken scaparielli, the salmon livornaise, the best definitely — or really — anything on the menu!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in bklyn. The food is consistently good and waiting for your meal consistently too long. Good things are usually worth the wait! Best marinara sauce around!

Bf and i dined here once and we did not kno where all the good reviews came from. Their pasta was not good at all. I love pasta and have tried from many places and this was the worst i’ve ever had.

I am a regular diner at LaPalina but this past Saturday night the service was terrible. Food was great as usual but having to wait almost an hour for our main dishes to come out of the kitchen is totally unacceptable. There were tables that were served and left before we had a hint of dinner. Our waiter said he put our order in 20 minutes ago which he repeated at least three times and then proceeded to blame the kitchen. No offer of a round of drinks and only two out of the four of us were drinking or at least a desert or coffee on the house. Not to be however. I am a fan of LaPalina and of course will eat there again and again but the waiters particularly our waiter, should be a lot more attentive to the patrons needs.

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. i have been going to this place for over 25 years, when they are on there game they are the best, unfortunately they have been pretty off the last few times I have been there and that’s a shame as they are pretty expensive, as the waiters are masters in running up the bill. I was disappointed today as the shrimp Parm was box shrimp, old cold sauce, burnt garlic toast and my Marsala was too watery and both dishes were cold, like a microwave cooked it. I thought no this is a shame as they were the best in Brooklyn at one time, someone new in their kitchen is hurting them or they grew complacent and take there regular customers for granted, food does not taste the same! I know that they better get back or they will really go downhill. I spent 82 $ for two entrees and a small order of clams, a glass of wine and it all tasted like a pizzeria. RIP la palina, downhill!

Very friendly people and amazing service. My water glass was never even close to empty and everything was brought out so quickly. The food was amazing. A little costly, but worth every bit. Amazing garlic bread and pasta with crab and red sauce.

We went there for dinner for my mother’s funeral. We chose this place because we had memories of coming here with her and our funeral home recommended this traditional place. Our experience however left us with a bad taste in our mouths. Overall family seemed to enjoy the food. My issue with the place was how they dealt with a situation that arose. I felt that the way they handled it was extremely unprofessionally. We came with 2 box of Italian cookies that my friend had given us. One box was of $ 30/lb cookies. The other box was of much lesser cost. They were fine with bringing it out for us during desert. I think only 2 cookies were eaten. What was returned to us was a single box and it wasn’t of the more expensive box. Perhaps they were all mixed together but I would still expect 2 boxes back. I got back one and when I asked the waiter for the other box, he told me we ate them and that there was no more. After insisting there were more they came back with a few more that I still don’t think constituted a second box and was extremely rude with us as if we were being too much of a nuisance for them.

Huge portions! Wait staff was excellent and helpful. They took their time to go over the menu with us.. Even gave us a fried zucchini platter on the house! Baked clams and fried calamari were spot on! Price is a bit on the high side though

First time in the place, very pleased. Baked clams were great and the veal you could cut with a fork it was so tender. I would definitely go back.

Nice ambiance, dimmed lighting, and looked to be a great place to dine. I ordered the filet mignon and my gf ordered a pasta dish for the night. My steak was NOT a filet mignon. My glass of water was filled once through out the night. After telling the server, he didn’t even check with the chef and assured me it was a filet. Pasta was bland with very light flavors and not enough to please my pallet. All in all it was not a pleasant dinner for my anniversary.

I’m so happy I found this place. Finally a restaurant that’s(almost) just as good as Grandma’s cooking. What a pleasure to eat somewhere that not only tastes like home but feels like home. Good food, good people… Can’t be beat!

Background: Came on a Saturday night with a friend who highly recommended this place, and it didn’t disappoint Food: Pretty damn good. Appetizer — Baked Clams: The clams were flavorful, with bread crumbs that nicely complemented a rich sauce that I gladly mopped up with bread. Entrée — Veal Spedini Siciliana: Veal rolls topped with breadcrumbs and stuffed with prosciutto, cheese and spinach. Aka a winning combo. Tasty, filling, exactly what I was looking for. It came with mushrooms that were sauteed in a wine sauce that I thought was a bit too strong, but no biggie. Service: Attentive. Our waiter promptly and regularly refilled our waters, which I always appreciate(especially when eating savory Italian dishes) Atmosphere: Classy yet comfortable with dim lighting. Was busy but not excessively crowded or loud, which is exactly what you want in a good restaurant. Overall: A solid option for high-quality, classic Italian food and for special occasions. Sure, it’s a bit out of the way(in an area of Brooklyn that this Manhattan girl doesn’t hit up often), but it adds to the charm and feels like one of Brooklyn’s better-kept secrets.

Went with my boyfriend for a pre-birthday dinner and had a fantastic experience. Our server, John, was great. He made us feel very welcome and was the quintessential family-style waiter — very knowledgeable about the menu, not afraid to make suggestions, clearly took pride in his work, and full of fascinating lore. He lingered just long enough to make us feel like he truly enjoyed serving and chatting with us us, but knew when to step back and let us enjoy the meal and each other’s company. The complimentary garlic bread was delicious, we had to exercise serious restraint not to fill up on it! We had two appetizers. The baked clams were amazingly juicy and the chef used a light touch with the bread crumbs so that the clam was the star. The spiedini romano was a revelation. Anchovy added a lot of flavor without being overwhelming. We couldn’t resist sopping up both yummy broths with more bread. For entrees, I had the linguine with white clam sauce. Big succulent non-rubbery chunks of clam, and whole small garlic cloves that literally melted in my mouth(careful, pasta on the bottom is HOT — I burned my tongue a little). He had the gnocchi, which are ricotta-based rather than potato-based. He loved it. We split the veal Francese(John’s suggestion); very thin and fork-tender with a light sauce that didn’t overwhelm. Toward the end of the meal we were served complimentary rice balls, zucchini sticks and a potato croquette. All three were great. The zucchini tasted very fresh and the croquette was sinfully creamy and cheesy. We tried two desserts. The cheesecake is real Italian style and delicious with hints of citrus. The tortoni is clearly what Good Humor toasted almond bars want to be when they grow up. For the amount(easily another meal with the leftover pasta), and quality of the food, we were very pleasantly surprised when we saw the check. John told us about their prix-fixe specials on Tue/Wed/Thur($ 25) and Fri($ 30) which sound like a steal. We will definitely be back.

That chicken parm, those baked clams, and fried calimari. So honestly, I am upset I didn’t try the beef marsala. My brother had it and it looked amazing! The garlic bread that was brought to the table was just ok for me. BUT the spumoni for dessert was amazing plus once again, those clams! The $ 253 course for Tuesday through Thursday is honestly the best time to go. And Peter is the man! He always wants to Italian everyone who comes. Very friendly and always is helpful with the menu.
