I got the Brooklyn Blackout cake for my boyfriends surprise birthday party last night, and it was wonderful! The cake looked amazing and tasted the way it looked! The chocolate pudding in between the layers is genius! It helps keep the cake moist, and the cake itself was not cloyingly sweet like some cakes can be.
It evoked oohs and ahhhs from everyone when I brought it out! There were about 20 people and I got the 10 inch, although because it’s so rich, I probably could have gone with the 8 inch… although I’m not complaining about having leftovers! I would order another cake from them in a heartbeat!

Awesome cake, coffee is good too! We ordered our son’s 1^st birthday cake here and are very satisfied with the results. The cake tasted fresh and they had many choices for fillings and cake batters. I’m planning on ordering his 2^nd birthday cake @ladybird!

I’ve had the blackout cupcake here. It’s VERY RICH and VERY DENSE. The center is a pleasant surprise, but perhaps it’s a little too unnecessary. Nevertheless, it is tasty!

Besides the very high prices and the peculiar idea of service, only go to this place for your morning coffee or tea if you like being insulted. I used to go there from time to time for morning coffee, because it is in a convenient location. Today, I go in there, and one of the servers is having a loud chat with a customer who’s sitting at a table across the restaurant. The other one has her head buried in a book or a cellphone, and so both are totally ignoring me, as I stand here. I try to be Park-​Slope patient, but the ignoring just continues, forcing me to eventually have to raise my voice to ask what;s going on. I don’t like being pout in the position of having to raise my voice to get service!
Then, she notices me and says she thought the other woman was going to serve me!
This is the only place I know where they don;t let you put your own sweetener ion the coffee or tea. You have to specify to the bored server what you want!
This reminds me of the old-​style Brooklyn delis, where you used to get short-​shrift service. But it was a lot quicker than this place! And the coffee used to cost only 60 cents! At this place, you have to pay normal outrageous Starbucks prices, but you don’t get the Starbucks service and amenities!
You do get a free insult, however!

I ordered my last birthday cake from this bakery and oh my god, it was the best cake ever!!! My family and Frds loved it! I am going to order cakes from here for future, in fact I will be ordering my nephews first birthday cake from here. I had to drive all the way from queens to pick the cake up but it was absolutely worth it.

Not all its cranked up to be, they have everything well almost everything in such a strong refrigerated area that everything is always so hard and cold !!! Doesn’t seem fresh

Once again Ladybird bakery has once again completed another birthday. This time it was for my birthday. I wasn’t aware of what the inside was since it was a surprise. It was a really moist, insanely moist, chocolate cake with pastry cream. So delicious that it would be dangerous if another slice was sitting front of you! The exterior of the cake was fabulous like always. This is always my go-​to store for birthday cakes!

I had some sort of chocolate cake which was delicious (my wife didn’t even get to try it). She got some cookies and assorted things which she was fairly disappointed with.

I went for my aunt birthday wanted something different. The amount of choices is amazing as well as the employees who are eager to help. Decided on the chocolate cake which was moist decadent and everyone enjoyed.

Tasty enough, but overpriced.
Disappointed to see that they’ve adopted the unfortunate trend of shoving an iPad in your face asking for a tip if you use a card to pay. I HATE this! No, you don’t get a tip for putting a cupcake in a box. Plus, it is unfair to ask only some customers (the ones using a card) to give a tip. Prices are high enough – owners, you should think about raising wages.

I was really pleased with my visit to Ladybird. Chocolate cake was requested by the birthday boy, so I hopped in here early Sunday morning to try and snag a cake.
They had a small, but perfect selection. Nothing over the top. I chose Brooklyn Blackout and was on my way. It was a hefty $ 45 or so, but the cake did not disappoint. It traveled to NJ with me and was as moist as ever. It’s very chocolatey and purely divine.
Super happy with the service here and will definitely be back.

Very cute bakery in Park Slope. They have a little corner with children’s books. No shame in reading one of those while sipping on their iced tea and waiting for the Brooklyn Blackout cupcake to warm up. It seems that their cakes are stored at a colder temperature compared to the Brooklyn Blackout at the Two Little Red Hens in Upper East Side.

Got a yellow cake thing for a birthday; cake was quite tasteless and stale tasting. Might have been a one-​off thing, as I had previously gotten a chocolate cake that was really good.
Was very disappointed when the cake was cut and it was such a let down.

I was in the area running an errand and decided to stop in. I was anxiously expecting to be impressed.
So I bought 3 mini cakes the Brooklyn Blackout, Raspberry frosting and yellow cake, and the Red Velvet. I paid $ 38. The Red Velvet was ok not too sweet. The Brooklyn Blackout cake was sweeter it was ok. The raspberry yellow cake was good. Overall I would say these are really nice looking cakes but not the best I ever had. As for the staff there very nice and polite. Place looks clean. Years ago it seemed like there was a bakery on every corner in Brooklyn. These days few are found. It is privilege to have this place around. It’s a quaint little place.

I wanted cake on my birthday and my husband knows how much i love chocolate so he went to Ladybird and picked up a mini blackout cake. I haven’t had a blackout cake since Entenmann’s used to sell it and I used to love it. Their version was divine and brought me back to remembering how much I love blackout cake! It’s a rich cake, so size wise you can get 4 portions out of it. The cake was so delicious! It wasn’t overly sweet so it was perfectly balanced. Moist chocolate cake layers in between rich chocolate pudding encompassed in chocolate ganache. It was just heavenly.
He also picked up a couple of scones for breakfast which were quite good, but a bit on the cakey side. The cherry almond version used fresh cherries (vs. dried) and the maple walnut had a good maple flavor.
Overall some great stuff, I highly recommend the blackout cake.

Yes, their Brooklyn Blackout Cake *is* as good as it’s cracked up to be. Even in cupcake form.
This friendly and adorable local bakery is a cozy nook to pop in for a cup of tea and a sweet treat. It’s homey vibe will make you wish it was your *own* local bakeshop, if you don’t happen to be one of the lucky South Slope-​ers who resides nearby.
Keep them in mind for birthdays and special occasions, because a lot of their cakes and tarts don’t come by the slice, and thus are way too big for spontaneous snacking (though delicious enough to make you tempted anyway).

I am a huge fan of the Two Little Red Hens Brooklyn blackout cake, and I found out about Ladybird Bakery when researching where to find blackout cake in Brooklyn to avoid trekking to Dean & Deluca. (Riding a crowded train while balancing a cake is too precarious for my taste)
So I went here to get cakes for thanksgiving. The interior was cute, the cakes were all beautifully decorated. The 12 $ cakes looked a tad small, so I decided to get two. The Brooklyn blackout and the Almond Princess. The Brooklyn blackout cake was as delicious as I’d hoped, and I loved the addition of the pretty orange flowers.
The Almond Princess cake blew my mind. Was even better than the Brooklyn blackout, which was previously my favorite cake. It’s superbly moist and almond-​y. The raspberry was a perfect complement. The white chocolate frosting brought it all together. And again, super cute flowers.
Wonderful place. I will definitely return.

After all the rave reviews. We got there just in time before closing (or so we thought)
We were so released to see the door still open and people still inside when we were basically screamed at that they were closed. It was not 7pm yet mind you. Having worked at a bakery in the past I completely understand if they had closed their registers but honestly they could have locked the doors or at least told us they were closed more kindly! We even asked nicely if we could still order something really quick. They all just stood there staring at us while continuing their conversation.
Terrible.
I really wanted to try their cakes but I don’t know if I’ll try to come again.

The only reason this place doesn’t have a solid 5-​star rating and 1000+ reviews is that people must not realize that it’s run by one of the founders of Two Little Red Hens, and most importantly, that they have the same amazing cupcakes.
Yes, this place is second only to Two Little Red Hens, only because I didn’t see as much of a variety in the cupcakes available when I visited (though they do have more of other kinds of sweets and pastries). Also, it is not quite as accessible as the Upper East Side bakery, tucked away on a quiet street in Park Slope.
Just like when you visit the original, you must get the Brooklyn Blackout Cupcake ($ 4). Some silly people that can’t handle their sweets might tell you that it’s too rich, but that’s exactly where its strength lies. It really is the richest, hugest, most overwhelmingly chocolatey cupcake ever, and it is incredible. The Carrot Cake Cupcake is also delicious, extremely moist yet not as sweet as the Blackout.
One definite advantage over Two Little Red Hens is that there wasn’t a line out the door when I came here on the weekend. If you want to try one of the best cupcakes NY has to offer, then you must come here.

Definitely one of the best bakeries in NYC even if it’s technically in Brooklyn. This is the sister bakery to Two Little Red Hens (which I have yet to visit), which for all intent and purposes, is off the beaten path for most New Yorkers– deep in South Slope accessible only by F/​G and auto. Fortunately, their goods can be found in many eateries within the city limits. You just have to look, and you’ll find them easily. The staff is amiable and patient. The bakery itself is a quaint (read: cute and small) delight to visit… and visit I have– several times already.
Amongst all the choices available in the display in the way of cakes, tarts, is the vast assortment of popular cupcakes, which I gravitate to all the time… perhaps the problem is choice. If you’ve never had their hallmark Brooklyn Blackout cupcakes, hang on, you’re in for a wild ride. That’s what I get each and every time, and the thing most recommend you try as a first-​timer.
It’s fudge-​y goodness surrounded by chocolate cupcake upon chocolate frosting with chocolate shavings adorning the top. Unfortunately, everyone can tell you what it is… but you’ll have to try it for yourself. Simply Phe-​NOM-​enal! And I’m not a big fan of chocolate. I’ve had the carrot cupcake, red velvet, which although good comes nowhere near the decadence of blackout.
