4.5 stars. Great slice of Brooklyn pizza! If you want quintessential no frills New York pizza, you should go to Brooklyn, and here at Luigi’s you get that to a T!

Look, I’ll be honest with you guys — I am not realllyyyy a pizza person. I know I know, how is this possible, you ask! Well, being lactose sensitive and somewhat health conscious AND a vegetarian, you can kind of see how a slice isn’t usually my go-to … Right? BUT … Sometimes you have cravings. And sometimes a place has a reputation that precedes it … Enter Luigi’s! I’ve been sick for about two weeks now and also nursing some bruised ribs, which means just taking deep breaths is a pain(literally!) so naturally all I want to do is eat junk food. I rolled in before picking up my laundry down the street and grabbed a mozz slice. They popped it in the oven for me and by the time I got home it was still warm and delicious. It’s the perfect composition of NY thin crust, and just the right size for folding(the proper way to eat this kind of pizza). I really enjoyed the flavourful tomato sauce and the snap of the crust. Despite not being a typical«pizza person,» this is definitely the type of pizza that’d inspire return visits from me, which is saying a lot! Lastly the guys in the shop were super chill and very nice, which is always great to see in a simple and lovely neighbourhood pizza joint.

Stopped by for a slice at the recommendation of a friend. Asked for a chicken slice and was greeted rudely. «Definitely not» says the pizza man. So I got a regular slice instead. As I was walking out, the pizza man decides to provide unsolicited comments on his pizzeria is a «real pizzeria» that doesn’t serve anything other than«real«slices. It would have been funny, except he was rude and it was 11 pm. All I wanted was a slice with some protein in it. Instead I got a sad lecture on what real pizza is. To make things worse, the pizza was terrible. There’s better pizza down the block.

Fresh mozz slice is out of this world. Nuff said. Place is a staple and needs to be recognized!

Classic Brooklyn, New York slice joint since 1973. I love the look, the feel, the people and most importantly the pizza! I recommend it all — the fresh mozzarella slice with garlic basil oil, classic slice and Sicilian slice. Not my absolute favorite but definitely a solid spot. A must if you’re in park slope.

Went here on the way home from the city to Bay Ridge because I saw Roger Clarke on NY1 drooling over a slice. This place was voted best slice or something or other by some guy who wrote yet another book on the best pizza in NYC. This is easily NYC’s most overrated pizza, followed closely by Grimaldi’s. Regular slice was OK. I’ve had worse and I’ve had waaaay better. The Grandma slice was almost inedible. It was swimming in garlic and left such a bad, lingering taste in my and my wife’s mouths that we aborted our planned canoodling session Saturday night. Good enough for those who don’t know any better.

Extremely delicious. Fresh mozz slice? Fantastic. Grandma’s? Especially great when Gio tells you a long story about it and its various iterations over the years(simmer it low and slow, many hours, lots of bones with the marrow in). Garlic knots? Yup, also delicious. There’s nothing not to like here, from the food to the people making it. A deserved institution.

Ordered a square grandma. It was overcooked and dry, like eating cardboard. Not enough spices, tasted rushed. Delivery guy made me wait outside my building till he got here. Overall, disappointed in the whole experience.

Best pizza on earth. It’s all good, but the round and the square, as we Brooklynites call it, is the best in the world. Place is vintage early 70’s, unchanged since I started going there while in the womb. This is the classic, Brooklyn pizza shop. Eat at the counter. Meet all kinds of people from the neighborhood. Finish off with an Italian ice. Tell Gio that Vin M from Long Island and formerly 21st sent you! BTW, Gio delivered a stack of pies to my buddy Kelly in North Carolina! Luigi’s also was in the movie«Big Daddy» with Adam Sandler. Voted«Best in Brooklyn» and many other accolades. Luigi(Gio’s Dad) grows much of their ingredients in his back yard. The best. Go to Luigi’s for an authentic Brooklyn pizza experience! Like, NOW!!!

The best slice in Brooklyn. One of the top 2 slices in NYC. And I’ve tried hundreds of them. You must have it. Honoured to make this my 2,300th review because it’s one of the best slices I’ve ever had in my life. Come here, get one, find out for yourself. According to Garland, the place is named after the little known English practice of keeping devices for talking to the dead in the bathroom. A «Loo Ouija» So here’s the back story. Mario from Super Mario Bros slept with Rudy Giuliani. I’m not sure how or why this happened — Mario must have been drunk because he usually just likes Italian chicks, and younger chicks at that. Such as the Toadstool girl. Rudy really got inside Mario’s head and made him fall in love(don’t ask me how) and then Mario decided to sell the whole SMB franchise out to Disney and start making cartoons(and movies with Bob Hoskins for that matter). Luigi was sick as a dog by this point, it’s one thing to find out your brother is bi(which Luigi knew anyway and was totally cool about), but for him to be sleeping with the Republican Disney Mayor himself, was just too much for Luigi to take. Not to mention that Giuliani was working for a rival Mafioso family to Mario/Luigi, so there was a whole Montague vs Capulet thing going on there. Ultimately, Luigi decided to «get out of the whole thing», quit the Mafia, quit the Mario Bros, and opened this unbelievably amazing pizza place — the best slice in NYC? Definitely in Brooklyn. What to get: Fresh Mozzarella Slice. What else: All of it. And then: The Fresh Mozz slice is so good, even a meat lover would be willing to rename Brooklyn«Broccolyn» after eating it. I asked Luigi about the whole split from Mario. His response was: «I mean think about it. The whole thing was named after him anyway. Why couldn’t it have been the Super Luigi Brothers, am I right?» I kind of agree with him. Congratulations. You have found Brooklyn’s best pizza slice. There is no other pizza in New York City that is significantly better than Luigi’s. The only one which comparable is my favourite, the Garlic Bread Pizza at Sunnyside Pizza in Queens. But Luigi’s is the #1 for traditional NYC Fresh Mozzarella Pizza. It will take you to heaven, and you’ll have trouble getting back, because the mafia don’t like to let people out of heaven once they send them there, and the mafia do — obviously — own Luigi’s. You may have seen it in Adam Sandler’s «Big Daddy», or if you have a particularly«Big Daddy» then he may have gotten big by eating Luigi’s. I don’t know. Also, Luge Pizza is popular with Bobsled teams everywhere. So why is Luigi’s the best in NYC? It’s hard to say. The dough is absolutely perfect. It’s crusty and delicious and heavenly. The Fresh Mozzarella cheese all over it is sinfully delicious and creamy. The tomato sauce is spiced and delicate and perfect. The herbs really make the pizza. I’m not sure what they are but the combination is wonderful. The slices are huge, they’re fairly priced, and they crank them out all day from lunch time until late evening. I think you should order the«Mambo #5», it’s amazing. Oh wait! No, that’s at Loubega’s Pizza. Never mind. Follow the path illuminated by the moonlight and try a slice of «Luna’s Pizza.» My food tour friend who is addicted to Pizza, says this is the best slice in NYC. Seriously, if you only ever try one slice in NYC, other than the aforementioned one in Queens, this would be the one you’d have to try. It’s better than any slice in Manhattan or the Bronx, and even though it’s not as wet or sloppy as some, the taste is wonderful. It’s the quintessential NY slice and every soul on the planet(who likes pizza — and even some who don’t) should come and try Luigi’s. As an aside, I think the pop music scene should take the advice of this pizzeria and«Lose-iggy.» I mean, pretending to have a Memphis accent just to sell records… meh. Oh and to finish up the story from earlier, Toadstool left Mario because he was cheating with Rudy, and ended up with Luigi. You can often hear them fooling around after closing if you pop your head in the door. Let’s just say that dough is not the only thing they’re making at Luigi’s.

The only reason I’m not giving it five stars is some personal tastes and the fact that I’ve had other pizzas that I liked better. But if you want a real Brooklyn slice, this is the place. I was in the neighborhood for work and popped in for lunch. It’s a small joint. Gio lets the food do the talking. No need for ambiance. If I were ever to just hang out at a pizza shop all day long and shoot the sh*t with the staff and customers this would be the place. It’s friendly, fun, and delicious. The pizza: some pizzerias forget that there are THREE(3) components of a pizza and they all must work together. Luigi’s gets it. The sauce is awesome. Ultra fresh, not too sweet, not acidic at all, just right. The crust is tight. Crispy on the outside and airy on the inside. Not doughy at all. The cheese absorbs some of the flavor of the sauce, melts evenly, and is just really nice. Come, eat, and enjoy!

Want a Brooklyn slice? This is the place to get it. Fresh, delicious, and the kind of atmosphere you expect out of a neighborhood joint. I read some of the negative reviews and, frankly, they’re ridiculous. So they touch the pizza with their hands – SOWHAT?! They also make the dough and bake with those same hands. Get a clue and look at the big picture here, Gio makes a killer pie. Also, he happens to be an incredibly genuine, kind man who doesn’t put on a façade for anyone. Memphis loves ya, Gio! And we will definitely order overnight once we are back and visit you next time we’re in the Park Slope area :) thanks for everything!

This was a little out of the way and didn’t have a huge amount of selection on a Tuesday at lunchtime, but the counter service was very friendly and both pizzas I tried were delicious. The ingredients seemed to be especially high quality and the margherita pizza was really fresh-tasting.

This is my favorite pizza place. Everything is perfect. The orange choking poster from the health department deserves specific mention. Gio is a maestro. Ask him about his ingredients, that is part of the experience. The man is a hero. Ignore any review that isn’t 5 stars.

++ — Staff is great, I loved our server’s suggestions. + — Fast service, fast turnover, the clientele is really in and out despite you thinking that the small area in the back is full - — The place is a bit overrated at 4.5 stars, I wasn’t that impressed with my pizza(Maybe I need to go back, 160 people can’t be wrong)
