We went last year after the mermaid parade and it was awful. I waited until we went back to write a review because I hoped that they were just having an off day but unfortunately that was not the case. Before I write anything else, let me say I work in the restaurant business, I understand getting backed up and busy. We walked up to the bar and sat down, no one said anything to us, there was no acknowledgement that they had customers sitting in front of them. We were 2 out of 5 people in the entire place. After 15 minutes the woman behind the bar finally took our drink order and gave it to the guy standing next to her who needed us to tell him how to make our drinks(tequila and grapefruit juice… that’s it!) 10 minutes later he gave us a menu and our drinks. We ordered nachos, an enchilada platter and a taco plate. At this point, one guy had come in and sat next to us at the bar and a 3 top came in and sat down. For the next 40 minutes we sat there and watched every single person(who had ALL ordered AFTER us) get their food. When I mentioned it to the guy behind the bar, he walked back into the kitchen and brought us out an enchilada platter then walked away. When he came back out, I asked him where the nachos and tacos were and he stared at me like a deer in headlights. Needless to say, we paid for our drinks(the only thing we had eaten or drank in over an hour of waiting) and left. So this year at the mermaid parade, we decided to try again. Just like last year, there were less than 10 people in the whole place. Just like last year, we were ignored at the bar for almost 20 minutes; and just like last year, we had to explain to the bartender how to make our drinks(red bull and vodka this time), of which they were out. So, just like last year, we walked next door to Mermaid Prime Meats and git amazing sandwiches. The service is terrible and the staff has no idea what they’re doing. If the place was packed, I could have understood but there were less than 10 people in there both times. Save your time and money and walk one store over. You’ll get better service and what I can only assume is better food.

Mixteco Grill NYBK Coney Island 2pm Saturday 20th June 2015 Two Stars To be fair, it was the mermaid festival and parade. So the entirety of Coney Island was filled with degenerates and mer-people. However this place by any account would be a dive bar but not in that cool hipster sort of way. The mismatched furniture, dust on the liquor bottles, the complete apathetic wait staff added to the charm of the place. We were going to eat there but it seemed questionable. I think they bribed the Health Inspector for their B rating. To be honest, we came in here to use the restroom like everybody else. So we decided on drinking some El Jimador Gold Shots and some expired Coors Lights $ 44 for 8 Drinks.

My boyfriend and I were in the mood for Mexican food and thanks to Unilocal we found this place. As soon as we arrived we noticed the letter«B» on the front door. At first we were skeptical about going in but gave it a shot anyways because he was starving. We were practically the only guests in the restaurant which at first was extremely odd and uncomfortable. We shared nachos, lengua torta, and beef/pork tacos. Food was decent, fair prices, and portions were good. Would I go back? Only If I am in the neighborhood, yes.

Authentic Mexican food! Off the beaten path. Delicious not expensive. Bartender was not there during lunch time so I was unable to get a margarita. But they do have a bar. It looked as if they have fun dancey dance nights when it gets late… I will definitely hit them up when in Coney Island again.

I have been here twice. Every time the food is great and service is excellent. They have beer and a full bar. Pool table and jukebox with mixed music selection. I highly recommend Mixteco.
