Erin has been cutting my hair for a few years now. I moved upstate and still travel to get my haircut at MB because she cuts my wavy hair so well. All of her cuts grow out seamlessly. I usually hate when haircuts grow out but Erin’s got magic hands ! She is so fast, not in a bad way either. Before I know it I’m washed, cut, dried and out of her chair sometimes in 20 mins. I look forward to seeing her. She is the sweetest ! Erin really listens to what you want and makes it happen. All of the staff at Mousey Brown are lovely people and I always feel so welcome there. A rare gem.

I have been getting my hair cut by Jamie for about a year and he always does a great job! I’ve had him do my color as well(when it’s in my budget) and it was perfection. The salon is clean and they keep their appointments on time. Absolutely love the salon and their service. Will be back very soon!

I have been going to the same stylist since I was 12 and have always just gotten my hair colored at home when I visit. However, I was in desperate need of a color and a friend recommended I try Mousey Brown. They were able to get me in that day and I had no trouble booking the appointment. I loved Jamie, he was able to get my color perfectly and also had good suggestions for keeping it in good condition since he knew that I wasn’t used to Big City prices. I do however wish there was a way to add a tip on their credit card machine instead of going out to the ATM but since it’s just around the side of the building I didn’t have to trek too far.

I got my hair colored(ombré) by Erin, i have brown hair and had it colored a year ago, wanted to have an ashy blonde ombré and i believe its a hard color but she was great, theres no yellow or orange and its the exact color i wanted looks amazing. it was my first time here so had to pay $ 50 before to hold the appointment but its reasonable cause they do lose a client and 2 hours worth of money if you dont show up. the price was reasonable too, not too expensive not very cheap, maybe a little cheaper than other places i asked, anyways i really like my new bre and would def suggest to get your hair colored y Erin!

I have found my new stylist, Andrew Hoppe. He is absolutely amazing. I have curly hair and have never known how to wear it without the triangle effect. He took the time to cut it so the curls would be easier to manage and it’s the best haircut I’ve ever had.

I love getting my hair done by Jamie at the salon. He has been my stylist for years and he really knows what works for my look and lifestyle. My most recent experience was balayage highlights and I have received compliments on how natural and flattering it looks. The salon is nice and low-key. They do not overbook their stylists. Jamie takes care of me from consultation to wash to cut and style. I do not like salons that feel fake so the salon works for my taste.

I just moved to the block Mousey Brown is on and received a great haircut from Laura. I recently booked another appointment and due to circumstances I couldn’t control, I had to cancel at the last minute. I’d booked the appointment the night before so there was no way I could have canceled within 24 hours but obviously felt really bad and tried to reschedule immediately. Unfortunately, nothing worked with my schedule that week so I just went back in in person to try to make an appointment for this week prepared to pre-pay in cash and they refused to book me an appointment without paying a $ 50 cancellation fee for my previous visit. I’m a teacher and in no way can afford a $ 135 haircut so I had to leave. I understand cancellation policies but considering there was no possible way I could cancel within 24 hours and circumstances were beyond my control, it seems like, as a first time offender, they’d at least want me to remain a customer? Such a bummer because Laura is great and I basically live next door.

Felt like he had to rush, looks like he had to rush. Over priced for the final product.

Andrew cut my hair a few weeks back and I was/am really happy with the cut! He’s a total pro, gets to the point and delivers. Salon is cute, small, easy to get to off the L or G. Highly recommend! They seem to have quite the selection of products if you’re in the market for an update to your haircare supply.

Umm… I love my haircut. Laura was awesome all around! I was intentionally nervous about trying out a new salon, as any curly hair girl should be! I’ve never had anyone cut my hair and really know what they were doing with it, not at the Dominican salons, the expensive salons, etc. — I’ve tried them all. Not so at Mousey Brown! Laura did a dry cut on my hair and I was so excited about it because my research shows that dry cuts are best on my rizos. She made sure to consult with me before doing any cuts to my hair to confirm the length I wanted, etc. She introduced me to products that would benefit my hair and talked to me about the products I’m using now. Didn’t push me to buy anything — I purchased the it’s a 10 leave in conditioner and it is so much better than the Shea Moisture black castor oil leave in conditioner — Laura actually pointed out that my curls don’t need heavy products on a daily basis as it can weigh my bouncy curls down. Anyways, my hair is great — the layers are well placed. Will be a repeat customer! Also, I should point out that other high end salons charge a butt load for cut only. This is reasonably priced and the location is easy to get to via car.

Just got my curly, coily hair cut with Laura. She removed all of my relaxed hair, but not before she asked me what I was wanted, told me what products to use and what not to use and explained how she would be cutting my hair. I love my do and what she did.

Erin has been cutting my hair here for 3 – 4 years now, she’s the best! I have a TON of thick, curly hair and she has seen me through the dyed-red asymmetric bob phase, to repairing a bad home bleach-out, maintaining my giant head of platinum hair, growing it out, and all the way through to my current super layered shag, which she is about to get to chop off again! She just GETSIT, you can show her a reference photo and she will tailor it to your hair type and personality. She’s able to coax a great, edgy cut out of curls! They get you in and out fairly fast, and honestly for NYC the price is hard to beat. Also props to Laura who is an occasional visiting stylist, who will give you a killer dry razor cut.

The first time they were amazing but!!! I tried to make another appointment and over the phone the men asked me if I would like color or just cut. I said I want to discuss it with the hairdresser he said I need to know now over the phone or I can come back again if I want but not at the same time. I instead I want to talk to the hairdresser first and he told me to go some place ales because I wanted to discuss it and make up my mind at the hair salon!!!

I’ve had two experiences here which were conflicting. I never write reviews on Unilocal, but my first experience here was so terrible that I feel compelled to write something to warn others. My first experience(terrible): I decided to get a trim a couple of weeks before my wedding in October. I had shoulder length hair, and basically wanted to keep it that way since I wanted to get it styled in an up-do for my big day. I saw Rita and explained this to her, stressing several times that I wanted basically nothing done to the length(just get rid of dead ends), but to my horror she gave me some of the shortest layers I’ve ever had! To make things worse, they were totally uneven. Like, short choppy layers on one side of my head, and short layers that were uneven and slightly longer on the other side. For perspective, I couldn’t put some pieces on the left side of my head behind my ear, that’s how short they were. I was devastated, and two months later I’m still having to wear my hair halfway up on a daily basis because the layers are way too awkward to wear down. [Edit: It’s now February, I’ve had two«correcting» haircuts at a different salon and because the first cut was so bad, my stylist was still not able to fully fix my hair – the layers on one side of my head are still way shorter than the right, and I was told that I have to wait a couple more months before they’re grown out to where I can wear my hair down again. Devastating.] My second experience(much better): A few weeks later, I got my hair styled for my wedding, and I was much happier with the results. I want to say I had Laura or Chrissy(shorter with dark hair and glasses – so sorry I can’t remember!). I went in for a consultation separately, then on the day of she knew immediately what to do to make it work. She did an amazing job despite struggling with my layers(she said it definitely made it harder to work with, but didn’t apologize for my previous experience!). The style was elegant and exactly what I was going for – simple, braids, updo. She suggested pulling it to the side instead of having it in the middle which I loved. My mom also got her hair styled on the same day by Jamie and absolutely loved it(and she never loves what people do to her hair!) So, long story short: got a DEVASTATING haircut by Rita that still looks horrible months later, but a great styling experience on my wedding day. Unfortunately due to the scarring experience of my cut, I won’t be going back to the salon. Gave 2 stars solely because of my styling.

I called and got an appointment same day just a few hours later which was the most important part of my haircutting experience. I dont like having to think about appointments weeks in advance etc. I called, I went in, I was already very happy. Besides that, Andrew cut my hair and I appreciated his expert hands. I got a hair style I have never tried before and I really love it. Bangs. He told me all I needed to know about maintenance before cutting incase I wasnt aware which I appreciated. The only only reason I dont rate a 5 is because I payed 65 bucks which I know is a good price for NYC but still an all to high price for a haircut. I would have given it 5 stars if the price was 55 though.

I’ve seen Chrissy the last two times I went here. The first time I felt like my haircut was a bit too short, but it grew out well, so I had no complaints after a few weeks. This second time was great! I really like it. I’ve tried many salons in NYC in the 5+ years I’ve lived here and even when I pay exorbitant prices hoping for a great cut, it’s usually just mediocre at best. Definitely happy I found Chrissy. I have very fine hair, so I generally like razor cuts and girl’s got mad skills with her razor cuts. She doesn’t talk much, which is fine by me. I don’t care either way. I’m not opposed to random small-chat, but I also don’t care to just let them work in peace. I would recommend Chrissy.

Umm… no. I can only speak about my experience with the person that cut my hair so who knows, if you go to another stylist your cut may be better. In the consult I said I wanted a trim. I have bangs and I wanted them cut shorter but still below my eyebrows. I wanted a T R I M! She cut about 4 inches off. My bangs curve around and are not straight across. If you’d like a perfect description of my hair I can give you a quote from one of my students: «You look like Willy Wonka!». Need I say more?

I walk by this salon a lot & desperate for a change, I finally made an appointment. I was booked with Andrew & he will be my go-to stylist from now on. He asked a bunch of questions about my hair & how much effort I like to put into doing it everyday.(Answer: not much!) It was also cool of him to suggest some products for my hair type in a totally non-pushy way. I also really love how peaceful the vibe is. For a Saturday afternoon, it was a really calming environment.

I have fine, medium length hair that I’ve been trying to grow longer for ages. Prior to booking in at Mousey Brown I was in a definite«hair rut». Realizing that I was sick of wearing my hair up everyday but equally sick of having stringy ends I booked an appointment with Laura. Honestly, she gave me exactly the cut I was looking for. I told her I was trying to keep the length and she cut my hair in such a way that she was able to clean up my ends, keep most of the length and give my hair a shape that made it look like I had a tonne of body and volume. It’s now a month later and I’m still SO happy with the cut. I also bought a round brush, taught myself to use it and I’ve had so many great hair days. Definitely see Laura at Mousey Brown! BONUS: if you pay in cash you save the taxes!
